I think every BATB fan should upgrade their DVD in 2010. The platinum edition of the early millenium has so many "movies" crammed into one disc that the picture is like comparing a JPEG to a BMP!
I wish Disney would tailor their DVD's more to the collectors and die-hard fans such as us, who appreciate the OTV, and authenticity of the presentation. Marketing the movies to young audiences still makes the most sense though, but to a 5 year old, I don't think they'll care to much about aspect ratios and continuity, so do it for the consumers who have been loyal in upgrading their dvd's and buying complete collections over the years.
I'm pretty confident Disney will make the blu-ray version worthwhile.
So... who wants to add a DVD release date countdown to their forum signature for this one lol

So I got a use copy of the old BATB dvd and watched it last night. I then went on and watched the traliers. The one for the IMAX showedthe entire ballroom scene. I couldnt help but notice how good the scene looked. the colours wer extermely rich and it loked better than the actual movie did on my dvd. I was wondering if this was made before the colorus were lightened for the PE. Could someone let me know if im right.

YES! YOU ARE CORRECT! It really pissed me off whenever I watched it on the special features and I screamed out loud "Why couldnt they do that with the actual movie!!!" It made me so happy to see Belle as a brunette again and the Beast was no longer ginger, lol

Yeah, Beast was the worse I think. He was glowing in the WHOLE movie, and he was suppose to be dark and gloomy! ughhh.

So the colours were not lightened for the Imax release, just for the DVD release ? If so then that makes me very happy, Disney said that they'll use the Imax presentation for the Bluray.
I do miss watching BATB on video, even though it wasn't clear, the colour is probably more faithful to the real movie, I just hope they don't repeat the same mistake that they did with the last PE.

Jack Skellington the imax version of the film had the lightend colours. It was just the tariler for the imax release had the orignal colours. Sorry to get your hopes up.

I know even watching the Music Video's on the Platinum Edition, they even use the old colors as well. It really sickens me.

Well, it's good news, anyway! I think I already heard the date somewhere, but still good.

I'm interested to see how they treat this re-release and the re-release of Snow White later this year. I figure it will be similar treatment to the Sleeping Beauty re-release, with some bonuses gone and some added.
I'm fairly picky with my movie collection. I have no intention of getting a new DVD of a film that I already own twice (the old DVD and the original VHS). Here's some ideas for what they
could include to make this treatment better than last time's:
- 1. Broadway Musical Feature (90-120 minutes at least)
2. Alternate Scene: Extended Prologue
3. Deleted Song: Invention Convention
4. Deleted/Extended Scene: Gaston/Gaston (Reprise)
5. Other Deleted Scenes (they have to have at least one or two)
6.Audio Commentary with Voice Cast (Paige O'Hara, Robby Benson, Angela Lansbury, David Ogden Stiers, Richard White, and Jesse Corti)
7. Tribute to Jerry Orbach
8. Extra Short Film: Kingdom of Kindness (supposed to have been released on the Princess Fairy Tales line, but apparently lost forever. Would make a better bonus to "Belle's Magical World").
9. New music video (you know it's gonna happen)
10. Original color schemes
11. 3-D version of the film (most likely will not include the Work in Progress version, sorry folks)
12. Newly animated "Home" from Broadway Musical
I'll be perfectly honest, as much as I love this film, I'm probably not going to double dip on this release unless they do #12 or something equally interesting, though including the deleted song "Invention Convention" would peak my interest. For the rest, I'll rent it, check it out from a library, or watch them on Youtube.

So long as "Home" is not in the movie, itself I'm fine with it.
Te WIP version should also be included. I think I'd prefer that over the 3D version.

As long as there's an option to watch the original version, why would you care if it's incorporated or just an extra?
I wasn't saying I thought the WIP version should be left off, but I think it probably will...

I know what you said. And I guess that the WIP can fit comfortably on disc 1 with the original. Idk how much space a 3D version would take, so WIP might be a feature on a separate disc.

I never knew the prologue was supposed to be longer than it was! What's the source for this?
Does anyone have a demo track to "Invention Convention"? I didn't know this was a deleted song and I have a large collection of work-in-progress material for the movie.

So, the great looking footage of that Imax trailer is not from the actual Imax version?

I didn't know about the extended prologue either, but it was mentioned earlier in this thread.
The "Invention Convention" song is talked about on the DVD commentary. It's a pity it hasn't been released, at least in a demo recording, since it was an original Ashman/Menken piece. It was written for Maurice right after he leaves Belle and heads to the Fair. To my knowledge, there doesn't exist a demo recording available to the public (though if someone else has one, please feel free to correct that!)
