Since The Little Mermaid was first released to DVD with an aspect ratio of 1.66:1 and then later re-released as 1.78:1 which actually showed more picture on the sides, do you think the same is true for Oliver and Company (and possibly The Great Mouse Detective) and that it should be a bit wider?

and yes, Scaps, a commentary with those two would be great. I mean, it's not like there doing anything these days, right?

Does Disney always release 5 animated classics a year? 2 Platinum Editions(March and October), and then one in Feb(I.e. The Aristocats). one in the summer(i.e Sword in the Stone), and one in Oct. or Nov.(i.e. Possibly Oliver & Co.)?

All I want from the release of Oliver and Co is a nicely remastered soundtrack. Fat chance.

Finally! Oliver and Company (and The Great Mouse Detective) are probably Disney's most underrated classics ever. At they even did well in at the box office!

I hope they stop mis-advertise these two movies (if they ever re-release tGMD), like they did with the GC versions. I mean, Basil and Penny don't even wear those outfits in their respective movies.

While the actual number fluctuates over the years, since 2005 Disney has try and keep the pattern the same (Spring & Fall Platinum, Spring, Summer, & Fall/Winter releases). Though if we looked at their schedules for 2001-2004, they still kept the pattern somewhat, even if there wasn't a Spring Platinum those years.

yukitora was saying that Basil of TGMD and Jenny of O&C don't wear the outfits that they're wearing in their DVD covers, and Ames was correcting yukitora about Penny's name really being Jenny. Hope that helps!

I wonder what DAC will be released next year to "support" Pinnochio in the spring? I'm hoping it will be The Great Mouse Detective, which would make sense, seeing as how they both have toy themes.....

I didnt want to start a whole new thread for this so I figure I would put it here.

I was looking at the animated classic page on Disney's dvd site and noticed that Lilo and Stitch was no where to be found. I know I am just being hopeful and its probably no indication of the final rerelease of the dvd, but I could have sworn that this happened before with another film they were planning on releasing again on dvd. The only other film not on there is the Aristocats (which obviously just came out), so who know whats going on...just some wishful thinking

I noticed that too, about Lilo and Stich being missing, and wondered if it meant they were finally going to put the two disc version out.

Aside from Aristocats, Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (DAC # 22) is also now missing from that list, and Monsters Inc is no longer listed although all other Pixars are on there.

I agree. The Blu-Ray format has so much potential over DVD, e.g. picture-in-picture viewing (I can't think of the others I've heard of), so it would be nice if they released a Snow White package that simply would not have been possible on DVD...

Let me just say, there is a such thing as "being too good".

Look at the Platinum treatment of Cinderella, they horribly screwed the colors up to the point that I won't even watch the DVD, and would rather use the VHS.

Then there were movies like The Jungle Book that were tilt-and-scan, and really ruined the picture (I don't care if you think 1.85:1 was the original aspect ratio, I'm not looking for an argument and we can prove that 1.33:1 was the original)

Snow White was Disney's first movie. It's SUPPOSED to look old. If you make it in HD and it looks like it was made in 2008, it won't be the same, if you know what I mean. The whole reason it's a classic is BECAUSE of the little imperfections that were common 70+ years ago. Sleeping Beauty might make sense on Blu-Ray because it's widescreen, but I'll cringe if they actually do put oldies like Snow White in that format.

Isn't it interesting how Disney seem to have combined the Pixar films into the 'official' canon of the Animated Classics? I think it makes sense, after their acquisition of Pixar. It also means the canon has expanded its mechanism and will accept films produced by both Walt Disney Animations Studios as well as Pixar Animation Studios.

The only problem that arises is that in Europe the Disney Animated Classics are still counted as before (that means minus the Pixar films), and include The Wild.

I read somewhere on these boards about a domain being registered for Oliver & Company. Does anyone know what it is? I've tried different websites relating to the title and nothing comes up related to Disney.

Also, has anyone heard anything about a possible future release of Oliver & Company on DVD and Blu-Ray?

It does not included the Pixar films, but it does include Dinosaur.

Why whould Disney steal credits for Pixar films?.
And it annoys me that people think that Pixar films are Disney film,they"re not,and Disney don't do anything exept releasing them,marketing them and helping making the films but not very much.

^because they are labeled as "DISNEY-PIXAR" everywhere, and the Disney logo is shown before the pixar one. I don't know why, but I don't blame your average movie goer to make that "mistake".

Thanks for the correction. They really should have just made the girls the same character so I wouldn't keep getting the two mixed up!
