Still looks like a kahwala bear to me. Disney is known for making unusual and interesting creatures.

Its koala bear. And the Beast looks like a lion/buffalo/bear/gorilla/wolf/etc.
Who cares what Stitch looked like? The point was they thought he was a dog. They had to think he was a dog to adopt him.

GREAT IDEA!
Back on topic...
Lilo and Stitch isn't an adaptation I know of. I see bits and pieces of other stories in it. Most notably, E.T., but it is for the most part, a Disney original. But deffinetly an unusual film for Disney. Their first animated sci-fi movie. With Treasure Planet soon after, another odd Disney adaptation (though mentioned before in this thread).
A Bug's Life was a different adaptation of The Ant and the Grasshopper. In the original story, the grasshopper took advantage of the ant, but not a hostile takeover like Pixar/Disney's film. Made it more exciting.
Bambi is a different one for Disney to pick too. Reading the book, its far more traumatic than the movie. We only had one death in the movie. Gobo's side story is even more tragic than Bambi's mother's. IMO.
Spoiler:
Gobo is Bambi's friend and reckless, careless, and not too bright. He is shot by a hunter when he doesn't listen. The hunter takes pity on the fawn that he shot, takes him home, nurses him back to health and later, returns him to his home. To Bambi, Faline, and others it is lik Gobo is resurrected. He tells them how the color he still wears protects him from man's harm. And becomes as stupid and cocky as ever. Ultimately, he is shot and this time, killed.
It makes me wonder what Disney was thinking when he chose it at first, but the finished result is pure beauty, with very little watering down.
