Personally I just don't get it. I watched the first High School Musical today from when I taped a few weeks ago (never got around to watching it), and I didn't think it was all that great. I'm taping the second one now (I don't really feel like watching it at the moment), so maybe there's still hope for me liking the HSM franchise?

I missed the first few minutes 'cause I got out of work right when it started at 8... fortunately it'll be on a thousand and one more times so I'll eventually see the beginning.
Overall I'd say it was a good and worthy successor to the original. One thing I didn't like was how the songs sounded like they were in an echo-y room (anyone else notice this? it wasn't like that in the first one)
One of my favorite parts was when Sharpay said she was doing the talent show with Troy and Ryan looked like he was gonna cry... poor Ryan.
And one thing I didn't understand... how come Sharpay reverted back to super-bitch mode? (am I allowed to say that?... mods please edit if need be) At the end of the first one they were all like friends.

Was the first one better? Yes. But was this worth watching? I think it was. Ryan grew on me. I need a second viewing, because some kids at the party tripped on the sound system causing it to not work correctly for the rest of the night, and a lot of the younger kids there were simply too loud. Way to go with the giving them all that caffeine and sugar.

I think HSM was good movie plot/character wise, it wasn't trying to be THE BEST musical, some people see it as today's Grease or Wizard of OZ, I personaly found HSM 1 enjoyable to watch.
HSM 2: I was amazed of how much some of the minor characters' personality grew, especialy Kelsi and the Hip Hop girl, Martha. Those 2 were defintly perfect choice to give full on personality along with giving Ryan some more plausible lines and story structure, his plot was totaly unexpected. The music are catchy, What Time Is It, Work This Out and All Fore One were excellently placed, yet I was bothered by Ashley's, no pun intended Fablous sequence was unecessary to the film yet it kinda showed us how she relates to HER world.... Another complaint that I have bout HSM 2, is a minor character, we see him in Ms. Darbus's class in HSM 1 witha reasonable gag line but in HSM 2 they make the guy completly dense, yes, it was funny in some parts but in certain scenes, it wasn't required for a gag line.

I watched the first HSM (for the first time) a couple of weeks ago. I found it mildly entertaining, which is why I sat through HSM2 last night. All I liked about HSM2 was Ryan's character growth and the "Gotta Go My Own Way" scene. It was an o.k. sequel, but not one I would sit through again.

I, for one, LOVED HSM2.
Hey everybody! It's been too long!
Anyway, back to the subject at hand: HSM2. I really enjoyed it. The music is way better than the original's. My favorites are definitely All For One and Bet On It. I also enjoyed the development of the smaller characters, particularly Kelsi. I think she's adorable. Ryan's growth was also welcome. Zac and Vanessa did a great job. They work and look so well together. I hope the DVD comes with a video for that bonus song...
I didn't much like the I Don't Dance scene. The moves were silly and the message of the song didn't make sense (since Chad clearly dances throughout the movie). I also didn't like how, even after Sharpay had her change of heart after talking to Troy, Ryan still denies her a part in the talent show. The last thing I didn't care for was Taylor. She was displayed as the devil's advocate way too much. She almost had as much to do with Gabriella and Troy breaking up as Sharpay did.
My break-down of the soundtrack:
What Time Is It- great opener. It's gotten a little old after all the clips playing on TV, though.
Fabulous- fun and catchy. This was the one song that felt like it could've come from a musical.
Work This Out- Liked how all the Wildcats were involved in this one, but it felt a bit too silly.
You Are The Music In Me- really cute and enjoyable. Zac and Vanessa have incredible chemistry IMO, and it really shows in this song.
I Don't Dance- stupid. I don't enjoy Corbin's voice at all.
You Are The Music In Me (Sharpay Version)- at first, I didn't like it, but it's grown on me. I still like the slower version better, but this one is much catchier and really showcases Ashley's voice.
Gotta Go My Own Way- Really enjoyed this number. A lot better than When There Was Me And You. Vanessa did a good job of showing emotion here.
Bet On It- perhaps my favorite song from HSM2. Sure, Troy's angsty golfcourse romp was chessy, but the song is INSANELY catchy. Why didn't Zac sing for himself in HSM???
Everyday- boring. Nothing really special about this song. Sounded way too much like Breaking Free.
All For One- another favorite. Different enough from We're All In This Together, and still HSM-worthy. i liked the dancing for this song.
I think that's all I have. I can't wait to catch up on the forum's activities!!

I'm not going to lie, I seriously think HSM2 is the funnest film I have ever seen in my entire life! I'm literally obsessed! I'm totally auditioning once it gets licensed out to local theaters, even if I'm involved in another show.
By the way, I'm officially addicted to Bet On It! I've made it my ringtone, ringback tone, and MySpace song. It's awesome!

I haven't watched either of the High School Musical movies yet, ha. I'm not that interested to, but I will eventually. I sometimes watch bits and pieces of them because the piano player girl is cute, ha. I read that she's actually like 20 years old.

That's Kelsi! She's so adorable, I wish they had given her a romantic interest in the film...

Agreeeeeeeed. <3 She's my favorite character, and yes, Olesya Rulin was nineteen during the production of the first movie. She is currently twenty-one.

Okay, I must admit, I was one of the 17.2 million viewers watching the premier of High School Musical 2...
Anways I thought HSM2 was entertaining, but I kinda liked the first one better, only because the focus was on Troy and Gabriella rather then Troy and Charpay, is it just me or did they amplify Charpay's mean demeanor? I mean she was bad in the first one, but in this one she was evvvviiillll...I liked how Lucas Grabeel's character finally had a chance to get along with the rest of his peers(I always forget his name? is it Ryan?)
Did Miley Cyrus make a cameo? Cause I didn't see her at all...where was she? I still wish Vanessa Hudgens had a bigger role in this one, cause I think she's a hottie...maybe not that great of an actress...but still a hottie lol.
High School Musical to me will always just be another DCOM, it's not really something I can watch over and over again or buy on DVD, other then that it is entertaining I can see why it has so much universal appeal with its cutsey storyline, fun songs and cast of attractive teenagers, the whole idea of it just reeks of tween fandom which is cool because it gives kids some clean fun.

Agreed
All my friends are all "Ashley Tisdale is hotter" and while I agree that she's hot, I say Vanessa is hotter (I guess it's a brunette thing

)

I like Gabriella in red thats why I got the set rather then the seperate Gabriella. Sharpay deserves to be EX TER Mi NATED. Why do you think Gabriella is using Sec on her?
