Anything from Hayao Miyazaki is worth getting excited about - I can't wait to see it!!
I'd also like to see his son's movie, "Tales From Earthsea," but I haven't seen or heard any more about that one lately?!

Wow, it looks absolutely beautiful in HD. I am so excited for this, and I hope Calgary gets a few theaters that have it.

Thank you, Hogi Bear! I've been waiting FOREVER for the American trailer!
This beat The Little Mermaid by miles.

I am going to the US premier or Ponyo one week from today at the El Capitan. Hayao Myazaki and John Lasseter will be there. We got the tickets for free through D23. There were 100 seats available for the premier and they were given to D23, so they gave them to the first 50 members who called the number (each member brings a guest). I'm so excited!!!!!

Thanks Hogi Bear! It's great to see the picture in HD!
Unfortunately, the voice talents of Ponyo and Sosuke don't sound great at all. Although, this is the first Ghibli film I have watched in Japanese first and English second. I just feel what made Ponyo really good are the adorable voices of the two main kids themselves. I also with they wouldn't pronounce it "PAWN-yo"

They're also dubbing the beautiful song played at the end of the movie. They are metalizing it the way Disney used to for their original songs on reissues of their movies.

I'm excited for this movie. Never a huge fans of dubs in general, I might find it pretty hard to suffer through the mini jonas and cyrus mispronouncing 'Ponyo' the entire movie

As someone who speaks Japanese, its just one of those things that gets on your nerves, even though I *know* they probably don't know any better. I'd like to see the original version of the movie as well. Regardless, it looks like a great movie either way, so I'll be seeing it in theaters for sure.

I will probably rent the movie when it comes out so I can listen to it in the original japanese language with the english subtitles turned on. I do not like the voices they picked for the english dub.

Same here. I honestly HATED the voice cast for the English Spirited Away Chihiro...she was just annoying in English. I personally took some Japanese classes in high school also, so for me, its actually really cool to hear the language again.

I was really impressed with the dub. I typically prefer to watch foreign films in their original language with subtitles, but Disney did a fantastic job. I was worried about Frankie Jonas and Noah Cyrus, but both gave great performances. They weren't merely saying lines, they were actually acting. I can't wait to see this movie again. It is up there in my top 3 Ghibli films behind Totoro and Kiki.

Just found out our theater will be getting it on Friday. Kind of surprised because we're not that big and it's only going to be on 800 screens which is considered barely a wide release. Can't wait to see it.

I have to say, the trailer made the film look interesting. If I don't make it to the theater, it's on my rent list.

I wonder how they will do the home video release? In the past, Disney has released 2 Ghibli films alongside the most recent, but the only one left that Disney has the rights to is Only Yesterday and they have no intentions of releasing it. My hope is that Ponyo comes out on both DVD and Blu-Ray and that they release 2 of the classic Ghibli films in HD along with it. My fingers are crossed for Totoro and Kiki.

I'd like to see a new (anamorphic) release of Princess Mononoke paired up with Ponyo on home video. The original is letterbox widescreen and could use a SE double disc like all of the other Ghibli films received.

I
just talked about this with my friend last night. I am predicting the exact same thing you are! I also found this but I don't know how accurate it is:
Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo hasn’t even hit theatres in North America yet and it looks like we have a release date for the Blu-ray and DVD versions of the film. I had surmised in a previously article that because Ponyo was scheduled for a December Blu-ray release in Japan, we would end up seeing it in US and Canadian shops around that time. Well, according to listings in the newest Diamond Distributor catalogue, Ponyo will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on October 28. It looks like there will be a single DVD disc, movie only edition at $19.99, a special edition multi-disc DVD set at $32.99 and a Blu-ray release at $39.99.
http://www.theblurayblog.com/2009/07/st ... -revealed/
I thought October 28 was kind of close, but it IS a Ghibli film and Disney isn't 100% committed to them. But Oct 28 is a Wednesday.
But anyhow, if Ponyo gets a blu-ray release along with two more Ghibli films, I will be very, very happy. Personally, I have no interest in Disney films on blu-ray, but a lot more for Ghibli!
Edit: Link fixed.

There are a few glaring goofs with that report. The Wednesday release date as you pointed out. A $19.99 list price? That's so not Disney. A 2-month window from theaters to DVD? Won't happen. And Ponyo probably won't be a big enough seller to warrant tiered releases; we'll likely get a DVD and a Blu-ray (perhaps with DVD). I'd guess either right before Christmas or that late January window Disney likes.
Anyway, the page has already been updated and it now reads much like the last two sentences of my previous paragraph: believable speculation.

The page didn't update...I just posted the wrong link. But that doesn't matter because I'm thinking differently now. You know a lot more about releases than I do!

Sorry, I don't really understand what you're saying. I think I do, but I just want to be sure. So no chances of past Ghibli films on Blu-ray?
