I hated that stupid annoying blonde thing in the pink dress. Every single time she came on screen I wanted to slap her haha.

I also hate how she called 'Scooch' *Shudder* the English entry, then it was the United Kingdom's entry, even if they were English.

One more thing, why did Russia get booed when they received votes?

Once again the contest has come to an end, and once again one of the Eastern countries has won. I didn't really like the song, but it was not as bad as that crap that Ukraine had. But all in all mayn of the songs were awful, just as they are every single year.
It's depressing to think of what this contest has become.

Ah yes sorry about that, still...it wasn't the English team . I've decided today that my two favourite eurovision songs, are the Norwegian entry last year, and the Wild Dance from Ukraine, awesome.

They aren't though, that's what gets me, you'd think that a huge show like the Eurovision would tell her the difference.

Sure the members of the group were English, but the United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, all different countries, or divisions.

It doesn't really bother me too much as I am English, but some people would be offended at being called English if they are not, I have a friend who is Welsh, and would be appalled if you said she was English.

I can see why individuals could mistake England and U.K. as the same thing, but a huge show! argh...Never mind..

Secretly, I was pining for the Russian team to win. They were simply hot.

That UK entry seems to get worse every year. At least you can forgive the non-English speaking countries for badly translated lyrics and laughable costumes. I did like the subtle Bucks Fizz tribute in the UK entry though...the UK makes up for it with Sir Terry Wogan's delightful commentary.

Personally, the Spanish boy band were laughably great, although I swear the lyrics were something about "bugger me sore".

The real disappointment was the sheer number of painfully average entries. Only half of the entries were the amusingly bad crop we come to expect from our annual Eurovision watching tradition. Oh well, there is always next year!

It's the same when The Netherlands is called Holland. Holland is just a part of The Netherlands (but we Dutch call it Holland too sometimes).

In spoken language people here almost never use the names Great Britain/United Kingdom, The Netherlands, or even The United States, because they're too long and/or difficult to say. (We simply talk about America when referring to the US, I'm sure people do elsewhere as well). Interestingly, the Finnish (official) names for Estonia and Germany also come from a name of a smaller region in those countries.

But I know British people (is that correct? ) are more sensitive about these things than others.

Do you watch the Junior Song Contest too? I never did before, but the contest is in the Netherlands this year, so I'm going to watch it this year. I believe it's in november or december or something.

Seriously, I'm bemused by all this. While the Western Europe countries may pay the bulk of the costs, we also get a return on the competition. Over 10M watched it on the BBC, which is a good viewing figure in this day and age, not to mention the BBC got the semi-finals and the UK's "Selecting a song for Eurovision" programme.

I don't take it seriously, I was a little disappointed Scooch didn't do better, but at the end of the day, I had a laugh along with Terry when the votes came in.

I just think there's more tension between countries in the U.K. Everyone seems to hate England, so when they're called English, they're not best pleased.

Well it was really unfair this year that among the top 10 finalists were not western Europe or Scandinavian countries. But I have to say congratulations to Serbia as it was a really good song, a song of some quality. Noone expected that song to win and I really liked it.
