Thanks for the info garmonbozia! Don't worry, I just sent in the discs, the right discs too. Hopefully I will receive the discs sometime by the end of the week (i.e. Friday or Saturday).

Again, thanks for the help!

Okay, so I have been through this thread and others regarding the situation, and what exactly do we tell them when we do the email. I know what the issues are but how do we word them exactly so as to not get the run around. I had issues w/the last Scrubs release as most of us did, and all they did was give me the run around even though I told them exactly what the problem was, they made me feel as though I was trying to cheat them or something of the sort. I just don't want to get the same run around this time. I know what information from the discs to tell them, but other than that I just wanted some help to get this taken care of asap. Thanks.

I just told them that for "Prowlers of the Everglades" that the colors were incorrect, and on other (I can't remember), I just said that in the last shot the image did not pan out into widescreen.

It's truly odd. I just received my replacement disc today and it came in a padded envelope from what looks like a private address (Sarah something). It also had two customs slips on it (one for a fishing reel?!?). When I opened the envelope, it was just the disc with no return envelope. I guess return postage from Canada was too much. Did other international people have the same odd experience?

The afforementioned Sarah was also kind enough to send me Volume 1

Not trying to derail the thread, but Mr. Toad lives 3 hours south of me. *LOL*

So to further derail the thread you gonna tell us where you live. Somewhere around Campbell River? There is another poster from there.

More Silly Symphonies disc recall

Does anyone know what's up with the replacement discs being offered for More Silly Symphonies at the official site?

http://disney.go.com/DisneyVideos/disneytreasures/

If you mouse-over the cover art, you'll see what I mean. It sounds like some restored title cards were left off of the disc, but does anyone have specifics? Which shorts, how different they are, when they'll be available, will it be worth getting the replacements, etc?

There's an existing thread - several actually - dealing with this, but I can't be bothered finding which one has the latest information. (That's what Escapay is here for. :P )

So, in brief:

It was mostly an issue of non-original title cards, but a few shorts had other issues. The Night Before Christmas has a black-face edit in it, and The Goddess Of Spring was from a lousy transfer. From memory about half the shorts needed title-card recreations. Springtime was one where the title card was shown in the Leonard Maltin introduction but not on the short itself. The Moth And The Flame had some very strange stuff going on with its end card, too.

When will they be available? Still undetermined. If you register for the replacements program, they will mail you an envelope for you to send your current discs back before they send you the new discs; or possibly they may just mail you the discs when they're ready- it depends where you are in the world, and what they end up deciding to do.

Is it worth getting the replacements? Depends on how much of a completist you are.

Thanks for that. I did look through 4 pages of previous discussion topics to see if this had been covered before, but it must have been talked about in an unrelated thread.

In case anyone else is curious, I've taken the liberty of supplying screenshots of the title cards for all the shorts here:

http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Silly_Symphonies

It's clear which ones are the later replacements just with a glance of the gallery. It appears that there's about 16 of them to be restored on the "fixed" discs.

If you had bothered to do the search you were originally directed to do you would see this is already ground we have covered.

I did bother, and I found no such information. You'd know that if you bothered to read my previous post. Thanks for the warm welcome, Mr. Toad.

In the thread More Silly Symphonies disc 2: MAJOR GLITCH PROBLEM!!, it discusses the "tilting" of the colored shorts, with an example of a tilted frame here and a normal frame here. Also, here is MK Sharp's quick post about the title cards.

In BVHE-Rep's thread True-Life Adventures. Volume 1 and Volume 4 issues, there is information about the replacement program for the TLA discs, and there's some short discussion of what's wrong with the More Silly Symphonies set.

Welcome to the forums, scarecroe. I've merged your thread with this one, as this one is talking about the official recall we do know about (TLA), and a little bit about the problems of More Silly Symphonies. For more information about the problems with More Silly Symphonies, click on the other links provided by Escapay.

I think Mr.Toad was referring to using the search option at the top of the page, instead of clicking through the past few pages of the forum.

If you haven't already read theses threads: Search Tutorial and Forum Guidelines , I suggest you check them out. I hope you enjoy it here at UD, and again welcome to the forums!

Can I suggest that maybe if we're accumulating all the recall/replace knowledge in this thread, that it be renamed to something like "TLA / Silly Symphony Disc Replacement Programs", and possibly even pinned to the top of the forum until we know what's going on with both the TLAs and the MSS discs. At least that way it's easily found and all the up-to-date info will be in one place.

Just a thought, anyway...

I received my replacements yesterday. I'm glad that I got them because my dad said that it might take weeks. Now I wonder when the SS disc will be here.

Me = :D

When I had called Disney Customer Service 2 weeks ago to ask about the SS replacement program, they told me it was being replaced because of title card issues and nothing else (of course this is customer service and they could have wrong info). Does anyone know how or why the recall is happening? Was it folks here at UD complaining about the title cards or was it complaints about the tilting that got the recall issued? Do we know if they are addressing the tilting of the cartoon? If they are not, then our replacements will still have the flaw.

I know there was alot of confusion as to why some people observed the tilting flaw and some did not, My husband says a newer system DVD or a newer TV will compensate and make the correction and that is why some people saw the flaw but others did not.

Wasn't the tilt problem only on disc two, and the title card issue concerns the B&W cartoons on disc 1? If they're only going to correct the title cards, then they'll only going to replace the 1st disc.

I guess they'll correct all of the problems now - anything less would be a disappointment.
