Persia Pushed...

The Mouse and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have decided to release "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" in 2010 instead of 2009...

Delaying the film by almost a year(Memorial Day weekend 2010 instead of June 19, 2009), Disney hopes to allow director Mike Newell more time for the elaborate special effects that have to be done in post. Of note, this takes "Prince" out of competition with "Transformers 2", which was to open a week after it.

The film started lensing last week in Morocco filming exteriors and then heads to London for the remainder of the shoot.

Bob Iger and Dick Cook very much want POP to turn into another franchise that they can use throughout the Disney Empire. If it's a success can you see them building that Prince of Persia attraction in the Arabian Coast Port of Tokyo DisneySEA?

They can build them in Tokyo, but I don't want any Prince of Persia attraction anywhere near the US.

This news means that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will certainly be moved, then. It's currently slated for May 7, 2010, and Disney's not going to release two big-budget adventure films in the same month. Christmas seems like a good time to move Narnia to. It should be able to stand its own better than Prince Caspian since the only big-budget release around that time is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I, and that's coming before Thanksgiving.

If anyone from Disney is reading this - I strongly vote that the next Narnia movie be moved to Christmas-time.

The last movie undeservingly got shafted because of a bad release date - please don't make the same mistake again!

I'm not sure how I feel about them moving the release date of Prince of Persia by a year. That says to me that they aren't as invested in it as they should be at this point.

Jim Hill Media posted a story about theories of why Prince of Persia's release date was pushed back.

I think the theory about competing with Transformers 2 holds the most water. I still hope that this pushes Narnia back to Christmas!

What do you all think??? I LOVE it! I didn't have a doubt that he'd be able to pull of the look.

EDIT: Ugh. Too bad Reese Witherspoon is in these pictures!

Before I commit to him as the prince I need to hear him saying a line. Is he going to try an accent? I'm not sure his voice is gruff enough to carry an image like that.

Also, perhaps part of my hesitance is that the illusion of him being the prince is interrupted by all the modern day people around him. Just looking at those pics he looks like he's going on stage for a performance of 'Pirates of Penzance'.

Ew. Sorry, Chris, but seriously, I think Jake looks VERY bad there.

Yay for Reese, though!!!

Agreed! While I do think he looks great (*Evil glares at Dan*) I definitely think his voice, or the way he chooses to disguise it, will definitely make or break it.

Is Reese Witherspoon in this film? Or are they just dating or something? I've never played Prince of Persia, so I really have no idea about this movie (except that the game supposedly had a lot of gore).

Gyllenhal is surprisingly unattractive there. I usually like him. But as long as he continues to act well, I couldn't care less what he looks like.
