I mean, I was already kinda fooled that it wasn't about a princess until he brought it up due to the name alone. I have a feeling as far as princess movies go this will be marketed towards guys more than frog and the like.
Pixar's not into girly stuff, that much is pretty obvious. So I would be far from surprised if the princess in "The Bear and the Bow" is played up more as an action girl. Personally, as a girl myself, I find the action girl thing is getting pretty dull and cliche at this point but that is just me,
Kyle wrote:one thing to keep in mind that not everyone at pixar pushes the story is king thing. Ive heard podcasts with pixar employees that would argue that characters are king. That you can have an alright story that still works because the characters were so well done.
Pixar's "story is king" philosophy has always disturbed me because I personally feel that Pixar's idea of a story has constantly been "a male-buddy comedy in an unusual environment packed to the core with fluff". Yes story is important but what about originality? What about mixing up the kinds of story that you're telling or the characters that you have?
The Incredibles is their most original film to date cuz it's the one film that stands out of their pack of "buddy comedies".
Kyle wrote:But, I don't think it would be crazy to see Pixar admit something went wrong regarding the structure of their first flop. They are highly critical of themselves already. They cant blame marketing, because they are a household name, people have no reason not to trust that every one of their movies are worth seeing. Which brings me to another point, even if Pixar did make a bad movie, I don't think it would turn people away unless they did a number of those in a row, causing people to loose their faith in the studio. In other words, Ratatouille would have to have been horrible, coming off the heels of Cars, to then lead to Wall-e being their first flop. Its a domino effect. I dont expect any of their movies to flop overnight, it'll be a gradual trend if and when we see it.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. It's the opposite of Disney's reputation now as people are turning away from Disney's 2D films cuz it's rep has become too damage.
I'm wondering what's going on with "1906"? It's sounds like a very interesting and marketable live action film for Pixar to start out with first. Though I hope all the stuff with the earthquake in Haiti isnt a reason they're holding back. I can see "1906" being a total hit.

But wait, there’s more – lots of rumbles of internecine squabbling at Pixar, possible troubles with Cars 2, the studio’s noticeable new reliance on sequels, and then today I hear the following words for the first time:
Toy Story 4.
Hasn't Lasseter (or someone) said that TS3 definitely would be the last?!

The article says that it might be for the short attached to

Info on the above article about the dinosaur:
UPDATE: Short called "Night and Day"?
http://pixarblog.blogspot.com/2010/02/d ... photo.html
Update: /Film reports that an anonymous source contacted them and "confirmed" that the artwork is for an upcoming short film from Pixar entitled Night and Day, almost certain to be the short attached to Toy Story 3.
The tipster claims that the film's director is Pixar character designer Teddy Newton, who worked on The Incredibles and Presto. (My all-time favourite piece of Pixar concept art is Newton's "The Jumper" for The Incredibles.) If true, this would be the first time Newton has directed a film.
/Film points out that the title Night and Day also mysteriously appears on an unofficial Michael Giacchino fan site as a 2010 animated short directed by Teddy Newton for which Giacchino will be composing music.
Naturally, this info is far from being actually confrmed. But it is one of the more believable rumors. One of the first things on my agenda right now is to check with the owner of the Giacchino fan site as to where they got the title Night and Day.

Technically these should be called "A mixture of Disney/Pixar heroes and villains," but who's nitpicking?
I just thought that it was odd.

Just a quick question. I just read somewhere that that new Pixar Animation Studio in Vancouver was created to make direct-to-DVD Films...

Is this true at all?

I think they will be only creating shorts for films already made. They wouldn't want to repeat what happened with Toy Story 2 where it was made by a second team. Even then, John, Andrew, and Pete had no idea how bad it was going and they were in the same building. So, they wouldn't have a separate team in Canada make sequels at least.

The problem was that Disney was making the sequels without their consent. If the new studio ever was making sequels, it'd probably now be under JL's supervision.

Interesting... I bet the final product will look something like the 2000 film Dinosaur, but with the Pixar Touch. But I don't think the phrase, "Story is King" is gonna work in a documentary-like TV special. I'm curious as to whether they'll release it under the Discovery Channel Banner, or a Disney Banner (like Earth).
