Sorry guys - I thought that was a fan page for people who wanted this to be released. Now I see that they've sent out a fake press release (which Disney confirmed was a false rumor) saying that this IS definitely coming out! I would love it if Disney did rerelease this film with a better transfer, cover art and more substantial bonus features, but unfortunately from what I understand there is no official intentions to rerelease this any time soon. Sorry if I got anyones hopes up. Hopefully we will get a better release some point down the road.

Saw that last month. I can't believe that the person who made that is still trying to keep up the charade, typos and all. I love Return to Oz as much as anyone but whoever made that fake press release and fan page needs to get a life.

I saw this the other day when I was browsing the Disney Wiki:
Oz, un mundo fantastico is a 1987 Spanish picture book adaptation of Return to Oz.

A red-haired Eilonwy playing Dorothy, Alice playing Ozma, etc... Very interesting!!

^ I had some books from that collection when I was a child. Not that particular one, but I remember having seen it in bookshops back then. I don't think the characters from the story are meant to be played by the classic Disney ones. I guess the artist who did the drawings found it hard to translate the characters from live action to animation and just copied from other Disney characters who looked similar to them and adapted them a bit. I had the Mary Poppins book and it didn't feature other Disney characters, or at least I didn't notice any resemblance. Now that I look at those pictures, I find the illustrations a bit cheap, but I have very good memories of those books and I still keep some of them.

^ I think the drawings are charming! I did a Google Image search of the collection:
https://www.google.com/search?q=%22anto ... 20&bih=950
And the only other "off" illustration I see is Cinderella in a pink ball gown. (But I really get a kick out of things like that!)

Well, "cheap" is a bit strong of a word, I wanted to find a better one but it didn't come to my mind. What I wanted to say is that they aren't as perfect as I remembered or as the book illustrations that are made nowadays, but yes, they are definitely charming and the characters are mostly on model. By the way, all those drawings and also the text adaptations were done by Francisco Capdevila. I googled his name once and I found out that he was the first official Disney illustrator in Spain. Here's a photo of him with Roy Disney from a visit Roy made to Spain in the early 80s:

I have books from other collections he worked on as well, like these ones:

https://www.google.es/search?q=cuentos+ ... sney+toray&*

I think that nowadays the book illustrations in Spain are the same than in the US and there aren't Spanish artists working for Disney anymore. I wonder if other countries also had their own artists to do their book adaptations.

It looks like the artists for those books took pictures from the films and re-drew them to suit the films. They are just copying. Like for Cinderella, he took the pose from he entering the ballroom and just drew her face looking down as well as messing up her hair while the coach is from another scene and the mice are from another scene and the castle is from Sleeping Beauty!
