You matted Pooh to about 1.70:1 ...

Whoops, I messed that up...still, though, in the other pics I matted, the larger ones, more could easily be taken off and not have too much more affected.

wow Tony...101 dalmations looked AMAZING!! I love the animation in that movie.. I havnt seen since I was like 5 and now that I saw that Im so upset disney didnt put that out this year. ooh well im still excited for Peter Pan as I havnt seen that in forever either but wow nice work w/ 101. heres to them cropping all the rest of the DAC's from the 60's 70's and 80's! IMO I think it def. makes a more cinematic feel to the films and makes them look much better. I understand that it might cut off the tops and bottoms alittle bit but I think widescreen just makes any movie look 10 times better. Yes I am a widescreen freak. lol

i cant do a screencap for that scene because my aristocats is r3 and my dvd rom is set for r1. can anyone who does the samples do it for me? thanks!

It is? I just watched it a week ago and didn't notice it at all. Do you have any screencaps for comparison? I'd love to see the difference.

As far as I know The Great Mouse Detective was animated, and more importantly shot, at 1.66:1 and that's the way it's presented on the DVD I have ... (I think I know why you claim it to be matted .... and I hope you'll try to prove it.)

I have some bad news, everyone. Disney announced that "The Aristocats: Special Edition" is not coming in March 27 2007? I hope it will come in April or May 2007.

Getting back on topic, I watched "The Sword in the Stone" yesterday and the whole film seems to be intended for matting. All of the words during the opening credits occupy only the areas of the screen that wouldn't be cut off. And the "The End - A Walt Disney Production" at the end was set farther back than usual, implying that it was meant to be zoomed in upon. Most of the action takes place in the widescreen area of the screen. There were a few shots where you would miss a lot of Merlin's hat and when Wart is a bird, he and Archemedes ride atop the hat and you would miss them in one shot, but they don't talk. From watching that, I'm pretty convinced it was intended to be matted, however if someone who knows how to do screencaps and convert them to widescreen wants to post them to either proove me correct or wrong, please do. I'm curious to see if I was able to judge it correctly.

Yes it was, anything from 101 Dalmatians to Robin Hood and also The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh would have been matted theatrically.

And the jury's still out on as far as as The Fox and the Hound and The Rescuers are concerned in terms of animation ratio/exhibition ratio.

No, it was never meant to be seen in 1.66:1, only 1.75:1 ratio.
