I remember hearing about the lighthouse story on the backlot bonus feature on the Apple Dumpling Gang DVD. . .I think.

Tara was built on the 40 acres lot, the same lot where The Andy Griffith Show was filmed.Well, Tara never really existed sine it was Selznick's home with a painted-on roof for the movie, so there was nothing to rust. I don't know what happened to the house though, if you meant that.
