LOL well you know its sort of like the MP3 cd. old ones don't play them, but you can get new dvd players that are compiatable with them now. so you can figure later down the line lol some genius will have a dual dvd player (instead of a dvd/vcr combo).

In case anyone is interested, I've scanned the back cover and inside of my Haunted Mansion Blu-ray Disc.





I finally found it at Best Buy for $29.99, which is $5 more than what Wal-Mart would have sold it for if they were still carrying them in my area, but it is also equal to Target's price.

Dvds and dvd players are so cheap these days, I don't see how people would want to pay 25 dollars for movies they can get for 10, and player they can buy for 30 dollars. Also a lot of people havn't even seen the full power of dvd, as most people I know just have a dvd player hooked up to a 27 inch tv, with red, white, and yellow cords. Remember sony minidiscs, thouse never caught on, and I few at least one of these formats will have the same fate.

I'm sure some did, but all the new features dvd had over vhs. It made it a lot easyer to switch. chapters, bonus features, better audio and video. Where now people are so happy with dvds, it would hard to make the switch just to have slightly better picture and audio.

Do any of you guys think that disney will be releasing all the platinum edition line in blu-ray, in the future? That is if blu-ray is sucessfull, which I think will be.

Don't know about Platinum, but I think it's fairly safe to predict that Meet the Robinsons (which comes to theatres in March 2007) will likely be the first candidate from the Animated Classics canon to get a Blu-Ray release from Disney.

As for Platinums, I'm guessing we'll see a 2008 Blu-Ray release of Snow White day and date with the DVD re-release.

I have to be honest, I really hope Snow White does come out in blue-ray. I hope blu-ray flies. Hey do you think it'll look 10 times better? Snow White that is.

Actually, Disney is already advertising "Chicken Little" as coming soon to Blueray on their official Blueray website.

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has announced 'Invincible (2006)' and 'Pearl Harbor' will make up their December Blu-ray Disc slate. Neither extra features nor disc specs have been made available for either yet.

We had suspected for a few months that 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' would wiggle into December, especially with the debut of its sequel on DVD December 5 It's absense is a surprise, as is the day-and-date release of 'Invincible' on Blu-ray and DVD, the first from the studio. This news bodes well for new Buena titles in 2007.

'Invincible (2006)' and 'Pearl Harbor' on Blu-ray Disc will each carry an SRP of $34.99.

They should definately release Treasure Planet on blu-ray. That movie has so much detail that a blu-ray transfer would really take advantage of.

I don't hope BluRay or HD-DVD will establish soon! But I guess they won't...
When one of the formats will established, I buy the accessory for that.
I don't have enough money for buying a HD-Ready-LCD-TV, one BluRay or HD-DVD-Player and the expensive movies now- No way!
Most of the animated classics won't be look better than on DVD, because they're branded.

Does anybody know if BluRays have Regionalcodes?

Does anyone know how well these are selling? Are they selling enough for them to outsell DVDs? And what's with the BlueScape thing on the Blu-Ray Disc? Is that available on the DVD?

With over 111,654,953 DVD players in the US (and that doesn't include game consoles, desktops and laptops with DVD drives), and only an estimated 15,000 Blu-Ray players sold, I think its pretty likely DVDs are far outselling Blu-Ray. (Although more Blu-Ray players are now hitting the stores from various suppliers)

And even when the PS3 is sold, there's only going to be 6m units WORLDWIDE before the end of March 2007. DVD is here to stay for a long, long time (remember, we've only just shook off VHS 9 years after DVD's launch). That said, I support the Hi-Def formats (and predict Blu will "win") but I think take up will be much slower than DVDs was.

A few points...

*I'm thinking that blu-ray will end up being the next laserdisc; something that is truly successful with film/AV aficionados, but not so much with the general public, who'll keep on buying DVDs, not really caring about the advantages that more enthusiastic people would get a kick out of. I do think that I'll eventually get a blu-ray player (I think that this will be the format that wins), but probably not for a few years (just starting university is the main thing getting in the way, and I want to get a kick out of the DVD format for a few more years, as in all honesty, I only really started four years ago, and my DVD obsession, which is cooling down a bit for some reason).

*Looking at the trailer on the Cars DVD that lighthousemike posted, I think that Disney really want this blu-ray thing to do well so quickly. They're promising top titles, some of which have been in the vault and aren't supposed to get rereleased for a few years (Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, and since it was shown in the trailer, maybe Sleeping Beauty as well), which shows that they really want interest in this format so soon (they're expecting much, I must say). I'm guessing that if the likes of Beauty and the Beast do get rereleased on blu-ray in the next few months, they'll get a limited issue style rerelease exclusive to blu-ray.

Now then... we've got some VERY interesting high-def news today. Buena Vista has just officially announced Waves 3 & 4 of their Blu-ray Disc slate. As we posted a while back, Wave 3 streets on 11/21 and includes Annapolis, Flightplan, Goal!, Sky High and The Wild. Newly added to the 11/21 line-up, however, is Enemy of the State. Better still, Wave 4 streets on 12/14 and includes Invincible (BVHE's first day and date Blu-ray Disc release) and Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor (the studio's first 50GB release). These titles are official and confirmed with the studio. Additional details and artwork will follow soon.

One more note on Buena Vista: There's a rumor circulating around the Net (that originates from the Ultimate Disney website) that the forthcoming Cars DVD includes a trailer that promotes many of the Disney animated Platinum Edition titles for release on Blu-ray Disc format. This is apparently true, however I spoke with the studio this morning, and was told in no uncertain terms that there are currently no plans to release any Platinum titles on Blu-ray Disc at least through the first half of 2007. I'd be surprised if they weren't released eventually but, as of now, don't expect them until later in 2007 at the earliest.

Very interesting news, indeed. I understand that Disney doesn't want to jump in, with their top titles, right off the bat. Mainly, because there aren't that many Blu-Ray players in homes, right now. However, as many have stated, if these studios really want one format to win out, over another, then the studios are going to have to start putting forth some of their top titles, early. So far, it appears that the HD-DVD camp is really pushing ahead, in this regard.
