Well the release date will be February 27th most likely and the press release should come out just after The Little Mermaid comes out.

hey, I was also wondering if anyone had an idea as to when we might get our first 101 Dalmatians trailer? I'm actually REALLY excited about next year's PE's...even more so than TLM...(alright, just call me crazy..) Anyway, does anyone remeber when we saw our first glimpse at LatT?

Thanks!

The trailer should be on The Little Mermaid DVD. LATT was on Cinderella.

I agree, because they seem to be way to childish on other DVD's such as The Lion King. I would enjoy hearing about the background of the movie.

Well of course, we as collectors would enjoy more bonus features about the background of the film. But you can't forget, this IS a childrens movie, so of course it's going to have bonus features that the little ones can enjoy. :P

This is probably the Disney Classic I am anticipating most to see a digital restoration on. I took some screencaps from the L.E, and the video quality wasn't very good at all! It was extremely grainy and certain backgrounds were off-colour and went over the line.

Here they are, the arrows indicate where the colour goes over line.

This is just from one scene, but look how grainy the curtains are, the colours are also faded and very dull.
Anyway, I can't wait for this Platinum Edition, espiecially to see the Digital Restoration :D :D :D

Um, those colors going over the lines in the background is a stylistic choice. I didn't find the image overly grainy or off-color at all. I don't like the rough quality of the animation due to the Xerox process, but that is the way it was made. Yes, it can look better today - cleaner, brighter - but I hope they don't mess with it too much.

I'm really looking forward to 101 Dalmatians. I haven't seen this in a long time and I wanna watch it with adecent restoration. I hope it won't be over the top as it tends to be with Cinderella sometimes.

I'm glad this is the next Platinum Edition after "The Little Mermaid." When I was a kid, I had an obsession with TLM, "101 Dalmations," and "Peter Pan." It's looking like all three will be re-released within a year, if the rumors are true about Pan. However, I almost want them to wait on Pan just because I feel it deserves a spot in the Platinum line. It's my favorite Disney film.

It IS in the PE line. This movie, SB, Fantasia, and Pinocchio were the 4 movies that Disney added the the PE line. So they will be on the PE line. PP is being released again next year to promote the new Tink movie, and THEN in 2008 or 2009, Disney will release PP again because it will be a PE.

That's a horrible business choice on Disney's part, then. The whole premise behind the Platinum line originally was that these films would be more exclusive and would be on a 7 year moratorium schedule. "101 Dalmations" and "The Jungle Book" were last released in 1999 on DVD. It's now 2006, 7 years later, and they are now being released. It would make sense for them to then do "Fantasia" after JB, which would make that 7 years since the anthology was released in 2000. "Pinocchio" should follow since it was last released in 2001 I believe in the Gold Collection. "Peter Pan," last released to DVD in 2002, would be next, followed by "Sleeping Beauty" last released in 2003. So if "Peter Pan" is getting a 2007 third release on DVD, then unless they launch it also on another format, say Blue Ray or HDDVD, then why would the general public buy the same film again just 2 years later? Throwing an extra disc on and a shiny Platinum banner won't be enough incentive for your average parent to buy their kids the same film. That would make Pan probably the poorest selling of the Platinum editions. And why re-release Pan before the DVD debut of the Tink movie? Disney didn't release the 2-disc special edition of "Lilo & Stitch" when any of it's three sequels were released to DVD and Tinker Bell is identifiable enough that kids won't say "who is that?" if they've never seen "Peter Pan." I think it's a bad idea to release two versions of "Peter Pan" in a two year span.

Good news! According to the front page:

"UD has received word from a reliable source that wishes to remain anonymous that 101 Dalmatians has been penciled in for two-disc Platinum Edition treatment in October of 2008. This contradicts an earlier report from Australia which pegged Pinocchio and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as 2008's two Platinum titles."

This is very exciting news! It's a good thing that Disney decided to finish the whole Platinum line before they started it back up again. Then again, now I have to wait 2 years before I can see it. At least I have the VHS. Anyway, is anyone else excited???

That's great for "101 Dalmations" will be platinum course I was really hoping it'd be Pinocchio/Fantasia, yet it should be well worth the wait for "101" and I'm curious bout the new edition of "Aristocats" too.

I hope it's true that 101 Dalmatians will be a Platnium Edition. This is one of the films that I would like to own on DVD.

I am excited even though I still need to get Snow White and BATB on DVD. I wish Disney would make the PE's come out faster like 3 a year so it would be:

Peter Pan - Spring 2007
? - Summer 2007
The Jungle Book - Autumn/Fall 2007
Pinocchio - Spring 2008
Fantasia - Summer 2008
Snow White Re-release - Autumn/Fall 2008
Sleeping Beauty - Spring 2009
? - Summer 2009
Beauty and the Beast Re-release - Autumn/Fall 2009

I like your Platinum List Yamiiguy, but I'd make a few alterations:

Peter Pan: Spring 2006

Pinocchio: Summer '07

Jungle Book: Oct. '07

Sleeping Beauty: Spring '08

Fantasia: Summer '08

Dumbo: Fall '08

Sword In The Stone: Spring '09

Those are a few films I'd to like to see on the Platinum Line, especially Sword In Stone, Fantasia and Dumbo.

true, to be honest I don't care what order they come in as long as every classic excluding the Anthologys will get a 2 disc release, I was gutted when I found out Robin Hood MWE would be only 1 disc

Well I think they shouldve stayed with their orginal schedule (like before they decided to move Peter Pan's to a very early date). After the Jungle Book comes out, 101 Dalmations will be the only Disney Animated Feature that has not been given a decent DVD release (When I say decent DVD release I refer to all releases that are no Limited Editions). Do you get what I mean?

Mason, you may want to change your list. Spring of '06 has already passed - I think you mean of '07.

I don't want to wait almost two years for 101 Dalmatians. :(
