The last book I read was Star Trek: Ex Machina by Christopher L. Bennett. It's a fantastic story that helps to bridge the gap between the first two movies and explores the characters as they existed at that time. It's got some great philosophical stuff about life, religion, AI, and more.

I was bored so I pulled out one of my old Baby Sitters Club books. They're lamer than I remember but not the worst way to spend an hour.

About a month ago (when I was in school), we were reading Of Mice and Men. Although I didn't get to read some parts of it due to drama practice, I LOVED it. It's probably my second favorite book, next to Catcher in the Rye. Plus the movie(the 1992 one with John Malkovich) ain't half bad either. Mainly due to the fact that Gary Sinise was soooo hot in it but still a good movie otherwise. Right now, I just started reading Flowers in the Attic. I'm only on page 63 out of 389 pages which is actually pretty good for someone who just started to read the book on monday. So far, it's not as good as I imagine it would be but it isn't terrible. It's pretty depressing though, just like the last book I've read...........

Just polished off Fiasco: A History of Hollywood's Iconic Flops by James Robert Parish. As the title implies it is a study of those films that have been great commercial and/or critical disasters over the last 50 years or so. Starting with Cleopatra and going through to 2001's Town & Country, the book - published in 2004 - tries to work out exactly why these films have flopped. In many cases, it is due to egos taking over budgets that went up and up without any regard to practical matters. Other films featured are: The Chase; Paint your wagon; The Wild Party; Popeye; The Cotton Club; Shanghai Surprise; Ishtar; Last Action Hero; Cutthroat Island; Showgirls; Waterworld; The Postman and Battlefield Earth.

I'm now about to launch into the much-hyped The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

I just started Hunters of Dune, which continues the story from the cliffhanger ending of Chapterhouse: Dune. I'm only 50 pages in, but I'm loving it so far.

I am getting near the end of John Grishams "Skipping Christmas". So far, it was a so-so story. I have not seen the movie, but I heard it's awful.

I am also reading "The Catcher in the Rye" In my 12th grade English class. It's pretty interesting so far.

I make it a point to read Skipping Christmas every year, and have read it several times over in the past few weeks. Find it my best way to cope with the season, and also is worth reading several times over.

The movie suffers mainly from the fact that they tried to make it funny. The book has funny moments, but ultimately is a serious story of a couple who decides that rather than partake in the conformity of Christmas, they'll go on a cruise and actually relax. Instead of saying, "Fine by us", the neighbours turn into Christmas Nazis and they're practically scorned and shunned (except for the rampant "Free Frosty!" chants). In the movie, they decide to portray this couple as selfish (mainly Luther), and the neighbours become even more Christmas-Nazi-ish than in the book. Turns what could have been a great Christmas tradition movie into a cringe-worthy comedic hit-and-miss. The message about relaxing and accepting others' choices is skewered and replaced by a romp in a town where not celebrating Christmas makes you an outlaw in your own neighbourhood nad only helps support the conformity of the season.

I love Christmas, I really do, but the book is a sad reminder of just how commercial the holiday has become.

Oh wow! For school:

The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck
The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

and we are going to start reading Great Expectations, by Dickens, when we come back from Christmas Break (Jan. 3).

That's what I get for being in Honors English!

Peter and The Star-Catchers, an unofficial, Disney-licensed prequel to Peter Pan.

Wikipedia claims that this book is planned for a CGI animated movie release by Disney in the coming years. That would be cool, but I'm hesitant to believe it. However, there is a page on IMDB for this movie, but it's restricted unless you have IMDBpro. If anyone subscribes to that, could you look up the info on this project?
