I would die, and then be reincarnated in the theatre if "Mermaid" was re-released in IMAX, or just plain ol' screens.
I remember seeing a trailer for the 1997 release, and I was dying to go, but I never caught a showing

I think my parents took me when it came out in 1989. I was only 3 at the time so I can't remember going.

That rerelease was the one of the very few times in my life that the audience burst into massive applause at the end of the movie...it was so amazing. I was glad to see it then; I'd seen it in rerelase in 1987, but didn't really remember it, since I was only 2 at the time.
As far as animated Disney movies being shown in IMAX theaters, I believe there was just Fantasia 2000, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and (perhaps) Treasure Planet.
You're right; I don't know how broad an IMAX release Treasure Planet had, but I know the IMAX nearest me had it. (I never got to see it in theatres, though, IMAX or otherwise...it came out during marching band season for me, so I had no free weekends, and didn't stay out long enough!)

This is my favourite Disney film, but sadly I never saw it in theaters. In 1990 and 1997 I lived with my parents far from any theater so it was impossible to see it in large screen, but bought VHS-versions and the first DVD.

Once at the old theatre in the Contemporary restort at WDW
and twice more in the rerelease!!!!
One of my favorite movies!

I definitely want to see this movie on IMAX, becuase I never saw this movie on theaters, but even if I saw it, I still would like to see it because this is a great opportunity to appreciate this movie on it's original brilliance and completely restored

I sound like a sneak peek

I never got to see "The Little Mermaid" in a theater either. I didn't get to go see movies often during my childhood. However, "The Little Mermaid" was the first movie I ever got to rent.

I believe the first time I saw The Little Mermaid was in 1997, but I'm not sure. I definitely don't remember it, but my dad told me he took me to see it.
I'd LOVE to see The Little Mermaid in an IMAX theater!!

Its aspect ratio is actually closer to the native IMAX aspect ratio, which is something like 1.43:1 for 70MM works and supposedly 1.33:1 for others. But, yeah it would not look so great blown up that large without tinkering, something that we can all agree would be blasphemous on Snow White.
Yeah, it probably wouldn't look so great. Apparently (never saw it, but I heard from a few people) that the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment of
Fantasia/2000 on IMAX looked pretty bad (particularly compared to the rest of the movie), and that's close enough to
Snow White in technical aspects.

Sorcerer's Apprentice didn't look *bad,* but it did look significantly older blown up on that huge screen. It wasn't painful to watch, but it did stand out.
But the first time I saw F2K, not in IMAX, I thought Sorcerer's Apprentice looked fabulous; on a standard screen, it really didn't look older at all.

I think I saw this in the theatre (I was ~ 10 when it was released).
