You know, no one ever told me that. I've posed this a hundred times and everyone assumed he worked at an office. People who watched the show, rabid fans, all said he worked at an office. From there, I assumed they were right. You'd have to watch seasons worth of episodes to know for sure.

Seems like someone here doesn't get the Nickelodeon method. These two shows are simply the best animated shows being made today, also including My Life As a Teenage Robot. Since I've recently acquired 2 of the 3 complete seasons available on DVD, I'd like to point out a few episodes of Spongebob that go a long way to proving how incredible the show is - "My Pretty Seahorse", "Rock Bottom", "Wet Painters", "Valentine's Day", "Texas", "Sailor Mouth", "Scaredy Pants", "Nasty Patty", "Pizza Delivery", "Krusty Krab Training Video", "Jellyfish Jam", "Krab Borg", and "F.U.N."

Also, reality TV shows are taking some unnecessary hits. Just because over 90 percent of these shows are bad doesn't not mean the genre is too. First of all, the news is reality TV. Oh wait- no one thought about that. Interview shows, retrospectives, blooper shows, sports, game shows, and documentaries are reality TV programs. Animal Planet, the Discovery Channel, Court TV, A&E, The Learning Channel, The Travel Channel... Looks like everyone here forget why "Reality TV" shows are so popular in the first place. Because they were a new - but not new - formula making 'scripted' shows out of real things people say and do. So maybe, it's more like 40 or 50 percent of reality TV is that bad, because more than half of the reality "shows" made today are the same ones we've always had. Plus, when MTV's The Real World debuted in 1992, it was very cutting edge. And like it or not, dealt with a lot of topics in a surprisingly straight-forward way (especially the ground-breaking 1994 San Francisco season), before the genre itself spun out of control with Survivor, Big Brother, Fear Factor, American Idol, Trading Spouses, and all their copycats came in their wake. So don't try and tell me the genre is tainted. It's just going through a recession / depression right now. It's the same thing happening in movies and music, artists are collectively experiencing a complete lack of creativity.

Do we really have to go all the way back there again? Roseanne might very well be the greatest live-action sitcom ever made. Why? Because it was not only funny, but in every single episode, there was always truth in what was happening.

It was a family sitcom that broke records and shattered the formula. Before Roseanne, housewives were mousey, quiet, and all the same, only with different jobs. First in the 80's, we were given the working mother. But none of those wives were realistic for more than maybe 30 percent, at most, American mothers. Finally, then came Roseanne. The first REAL middle-class working mother in the U.S. She had a hard job though she didn't always work her hardest, but always worked just as hard as the husband to provide for the children. And not just financially. She was the only one who ever had to deal with the housework because the kids wouldn't do anything to help, she had to do all the cooking because her family was unable to fend for themselves, and she single-handedly (on most occasions) took care of her children's problems and emotional needs. The family unit was dysfunctional, to some degree. But what family isn't, especially when America hits hard times?

The show was about many things as well. The family's unconditional love and support for one another through events both comic and dramatic such as no electricity, parents between jobs and out of work, deaths in the family, crazy relatives, discrimination, self-esteem issues, a tornado that left some neighbors without homes, abusive relationships, and the onslaught of problems that 3 growing kids went through. This show was the first to seriously deal with a variety of topics that real people experienced - homosexuality and gay people, the incredible stress caused by taxes, a whole mountain of women's issues, starting several businesses without proper resources. More than any other TV show, it didn't shy away from any aspect of any of these issues. And unlike any show before, it never treated the kids like simple troublemakers. Each and everyone had a motive and felt guilty about what they were doing before they did, showing both that they knew it was wrong and that they had the foresight to think.

And the show constantly made positive statements. When Darlene writes a poem and doesn't want to have the school hear it, we find out why only when she reads it out loud, in one of the show's most riveting moments. When Becky is caught looking at her father's porno magazines, he is desperate to do anything to get the attention focused off of him because he's embarassed, but Roseanne persists in finding out why and what Becky thinks about it, revealing the insecurity a lot of young people are confronting when doing this. When Darlene and David fall asleep upstairs in her room and are afraid of getting in trouble, especially with her mom, in one of the best scenes of the entire show, Roseanne finds out but waits until later to approach Darlene, when she does then offers to take Darlene to get birth control, Darlene tries to convince her she didn't sleep with David because she wouldn't, her mother has no choice but to believe her- she provides a lot of very good points.

There are so many episodes with real human moments. The show was just written to be one of the best sitcoms of all-time from the getgo. And the whole character of Roseanne was loud-mouthed because a lot of women have real opinions that they're afraid of sharing. Thanks to women like her, now a lot more women are saying what they feel, when they feel it, and not censoring themselves just because it's not flattering or considered 'lady-like'. She completely broke the stereotype of mothers, house-wives, and working women on TV. And sent a message that real women off TV can start doing many of the same thngs. The show was a total affirmation of a lot of problems women and working-class Americans faced. And Roseanne herself was a true pioneer of comedy and civil rights support in the world of fiction, a real humanitarian, a woman who made us think a lot more, and funny. Side-splittingly, at times, even given the immensely, even sometimes ugly, truth.

She may, again, have been annoying to some people, but the show was a landmark in entertainment, and she was completely responsible for making it happen.

And all of this, not even mentioning the amazing cast. John Goodman, a one-man acting tour-de-force. He was the funniest member of the cast because his character was always given the opportunity to level the playing field with his superior wife. And as an actor, he was a very good physical comedian, surprisingly. Laurie Metcalf played the neurotic sister so well, that you could see it not just pour- but gush out of every last inch of her skin like a river, every detail perfect down to every last mannerism. She also played a person under stress as well as any other actor. Sara Gilbert as Darlene was somehow able to grow up, physically embodying the character to perfection. As a little child, she was a completely believable tomboy. She was even able to act every last nuance of a child very well. Then she grew up and had to play sophisticated and detached, which she did so well it looked like she was actually depressed half the time. The children were fantastic actors. Michael Fishman as DJ could have easily been written to be annoying, and sometimes he was so in an insignificant way. But he was actually very cute and likable, and even in the episode where Darlene tried to cover up a D on her report card, given a one-liner without turning into the sort of the standard Macaulay Culkin character played in Uncle Buck. Not to mention the acting legends who played Roseanne's parents and Dan's father.

Joey: Just a stuipd show...Friends was great and it should have ended when it ended there was no need for this show. Joey was my least favorite chracter on the show.

Drwan Together: Watched one episode of this and it was gross..it wasnt even funny and there were no good chracters..Its so gross and I hope they cancel it.

Futurama: The Simpsons is my favorite show...Futurama was not that good. It tried being the simpsons but I never really found it funny.

American Dad: Again Family Guy is a great show...this isnt that funny..the chracters arent memorable and the humor isnt as good as family.

Will and Grace: Just a dumb show

Rosanne: One word to describe that show is annoying.. Rossane and John Goodman got really annoying. The show was never thae funny. They never had good storys and dont get me started on Rosannes laugh

That is someone else's opinion Lazario, Just because they don't like them and you do does not mean that you have to tell them they are incorrect. I don't like Rosanne either but I do like Will and Grace. I also like Futurerame and Joey. Lots of people don't like Seinfeld but I love this show. This is just someones opinion. That does not mean anything to my deciding if I like a movie.

Well, as I've clearly illustrated a hundred times before, there is a difference between an opinion of "like" which everyone is entitled to. And then there is what is true. Roseanne is, again, possibly the greatest sitcom in TV history. And no one's opinion is going to prove otherwise. There's only the "like" factor, and as I understand it, not everyone likes women with something to say. That's the psychology behind why most people don't like Roseanne. Othertimes, they don't have any respect for women, the psychology behind why any woman's voice might annoy them. Not every, any. A difference exists. Roseanne herself, voice disregarded, is not annoying. Unless of course now people have a problem with progress. And the show dealing with a lot of issues. And being downright funny most of the time. And well-acted. And still, a lot of fun. Take any of the Halloween-themed episodes for example.

Sorry, no one's making a target out of Roseanne today. Or any day as long as I have anything to say about it. Which I seem to, wouldn't you agree?

I agree, Lazario. Roseanne is excellent, and if people can't see that, then there is something wrong with them!

The thing is, most people who "don't like it" can't say why. So they just say, Roseanne is annoying, which is dismissive/beside the point, and insulting to her as a woman, not just a person.

Roseanne was ok when it first came on and it started getting old after a few years. Then they have the nerve to change daughters in the middle of the show. How Rude.I have the right to dilike any show I want and Roseanne is a show I dont care for.

Now we're getting somewhere... I didn't like the change either, unfortunately Sarah Chalke was not a very good actress. At least, not compared to Lecy Anderson, who was perfect as Becky, both smart and a little spoiled. But the show's decision to let her leave, was part of it's philosophy. She wanted to go to college and they let her go, they didn't want to deny her an important learning opportunity for the sake of money or viewership. And I'll bet she doesn't completely regret the decision of going herself, though she did come back at one point, only to again exit. Though it did make for fascinating TV. When Lecy came back and left again, both girls would make guest appearences when they could find the time as one or two-line characters who weren't Becky (the Halloween episode where Rosanne gives birth to Jerry).

This is so true. It bugs me so much, and it happens every episode. Everyone thinks about doing drugs, everyone thinks about having sex everyone deals with smoking or drinking. It's just so annoying.
Althought I do admit to watching it from time to time, it sucks me in.

You take three pages to tell us all about the shows you hate (of which many were highly regarded and well-liked by viewers) and then others say ones they hate, you disagree and go off??

God. I have the right to hate any show on television. Even if it IS ROSEANNE the best show ever made. Yes, it was a ground-breaking show and dealt with all kinds of issues, blah blah blah. That doesn't change the fact that I can't stand watching her as an actress as I (key word, I) find her annoying. I was also miffed by the whole changing actresses and how they'd sometimes make stupid references to it in the show.

People have different opinions of what is funny, and you obviously find Roseanne hilarious, but because others don't doesn't make them wrong. A show can be well-written but you can still just not enjoy watching it!

And you're grasping at straws with your insightful look at "Reality TV". We all know what people are talking about when they say "reality TV" and it's not in reference to Animal Planet or Court TV, even if those shows ARE reality TV. Even Wikpedia gives all of the different kinds of reality TV shows and they do include all those you mentioned, but when people put "I hate reality TV" most of us realize they aren't talking about CNN.

I really dislike South Park and Drawn Together. Family Guy gets a lot of crap for being ''offensive'', yet, at least it's able to poke fun at everything any one can think of. On the other hand, the two I just listed are almost the opposite. I couldn't stand to watch the episode in Drawn Together were they make fun of the Asian race and their ''eyesight'' problems. Now that was blown out of proportion. South Park, don't get me started on that one.....
