1 1/2 I believe is coming out on 2/10/04 and Simba's Pride is rumored to come out late summer/early fall 2004.
On the cover art, I don't like it. It makes the whole movie seem like a joke which I'm hoping it isn't.

Also I agree, It does make it seem like a joke! I don't really like that either!

This Lion King movie is meant to be a comedy since it stars the comic relief characters, Timon and Pumba. Click this for more details:

Wow there's already an official site? Weird.
I just watched the trailer and it looks like it'll be good even though it is just a comedy. I still want a Lion King III though.

"The Lion King II" is already announced as a Special Edition. No specs or coverart, though.

This quote alone may make me not buy the 1/2 DVD:

The cover are is kinda cool. I like the colors. Check out the funny wallpaper and awsome skins for Windows Media Player and Winamp 3. Wow, an offical Winamp skin from Disney?

I don't know if the Winamp skin will work with Winamp 2.9x, but I'll try to "install" it.

really hard to believe), and a fluffed-out 2-discer (I find a substantial 2-discer for a cheapquel
really hard to believe, as well), but at its core it's still a video babysitter for exasperated parents to toss on when their kids throw a tantrum.
But, we'll have to wait and see. I'll save the venom for next February.

Lots of Disney DTV releases have got DTS soundtracks, so that's not too hard to believe.
Plus Disney is reportedly spending $200M on promoting the three Lion King films - perhaps this budget includes the content of the discs as well - the Morning report animation, the supplements for the 1.5 release etc.
Considering how much money Disney has at stake, 2 discs for the Lion King 1.5 (and one would assume 2) doesn't seem so unlikely. I don't think 2 disc sets for any animated movie are unwelcome. Sadly, none of the supplements seem to care about the making of the movie. But the 2 disc set will retail for the same price as a single disc release. So what's the problem? If this does well, it will encourage Disney to release more 2 disc sets. Who knows, this could ultimately result in a Rescuers 2 disc set, or a Black Cauldron 2 disc set. Stop complaining.
I just wish Return to Neverland got the 2 disc set treatment. At least that went to theatres.

I love Return to Neverland! I think it should have gotten a better DVD treatment than the trash they released! I think Peter Pan -Special Edition- 2-disc set is on the works since Return to Neverland is OOP.

I tend to agree. Complaining when we have "too many" discs is not productive.
I read in one of the other threads (from our new 'insider') that Disney, like other companies, could just as easily put the extras on one disc, but 2-discs is a fad. I agree partly with that - a consumer might look at the 2 DVD set as something more special and worth buying.
Either way, I think it is about time the DTVs got special treatment. The DTV departments do some great work on a fraction of the money - why not give them a 2-disc set for their efforts? Besides, LK is one of Disney's biggest franchises. Why the hell not try and capitalize on it?
And I have to agree with 2099net (how strange for me

) - more success in the 2-disc realm might mean more 2-disc sets.
More power to them!

You can order the hilarious 2 disc set from DVD Empire. Here's their page that includes a copy of the cover art. I think the coverart is funny.

No new features are mentioned. The movie is THX certified.

Yay! I'm so happy.

I'll be VERY mad if Disney doesn't give us a 2-disc edition of "Brother Bear" when even the cheapquels get one. At least things are looking good for us next year.... Special editions (or Masterpiece Special Collector's Platinum 2-disc editions) of "Alice", "Pocahontas", "Lilo & Stitch", "Mary Poppins", "Aladdin", "Lion King 3" and maybe "Dumbo" and "Lion King II"... can't wait!!!

Hey Starion, you really, really, really ought to start reading posts around here. This was posted yesterday, and with a site link. Seems like most of your posts are reruns. It's like you're a summer TV season - reruns all the time. You post good stuff - but it's been posted already.
I mean it's posted in this very thread...yesterday...

It's not a big deal if a few of your posts have already been posted, but as another member noted, it's like you just post these links elsewhere and never join in the discussion. We'd really like to hear more of your opinions! And from what you post, it sounds like you'd like to be reading the kind of stuff we post!
Thanks.

So far, it looks like BB is going to get the 2-Disc treatment... of course, Disney could change their minds. Personally, I think it depends on how well it does at the Box Office. But then again, if I remember right, Emperor's New Groove didn't take in huge Nemo/Pirates-like box office grosses, and it still got a 2-disc set. And so did Atlantis...

And Atlantis got the best damn multiple disc release Disney's ever done. With no fluff what so ever!
Inga Tu Schmista, if you know anyone involved in the wonderful Atlantis 2 disc set then give them my compliments.
Disney needs to go back to the 2 release system - one single disc release for "families" and one double disc release for "collectors". If it was profitable then, it must be now, what with the millions of extra dvd players sold since then. I wouldn't even mind waiting a few months for a proper collectors edition as long as (1) we know it was coming and (2) if has minimal "fluff" (ie the wait was to assemble decent, informative content, not games)

Just curious Luke - do you get a better affiliate deal out of DVDEmpire or Amazon? If the latter is the case, I'll just wait until Amazon has it up for preorder...
It's the exact same referral %, so whatever's easiest for you. (Of course, this assumes I ever get enough DVD Empire orders to qualify for a check.

)
Well, dilemma solved.
Amazon has it up for preorder:

Thanks for the link. I'll let my brother now since I don't have a credit cardd.

On the other hand, I may be able to pre-order the movie from the Disney Store and recieve a free lithograph.
Hmm, Amazon says that the film is not rated. I guess the MPAA hasn't decided to give the movie a G or PG rating?

If Disney is going to put a remake of t he romantic scences, then the movie should be rated PG-13? Just kidding!

They'll be lots of "nuzzling and smooching" going on.

I don't think that Simba will even be in that movie, it's Timon and Pumbaa and where they were before they met up with him, I think.
