James is right - Disney clarified their positions, only the tins were limited editions. The content was not. It can be released again, and who knows next time it may be in HD.

Given the age of a lot of these shorts, I really doubt it's even possible to put them in actual HD... they weren't originally done with enough detail. The best they can do is make new transfers in an HD resolution, but it wouldn't look anywhere near as good as most things do in HD.Pluto Region1 wrote:But won't it just bum you out when you finally get all the tins, paying a premium to get the early waves, and then Disney announces they are now releasing the whole series all over again, but this time in HD?![]()
That WOULD be a big bummer IMO.
Or they could put them out in the same resolution but just pack the HD-DVD with a lot of material - I don't know the figures but I'd imagine they could probably say do a complete Mickey Mouse set on one disc!TM2-Megatron wrote:Given the age of a lot of these shorts, I really doubt it's even possible to put them in actual HD... they weren't originally done with enough detail. Ok so that brings up a technical question (we've already steered off subject so might as well....) does that mean that old content that was made in the old days (like 1940s movies) is just going to look crappy in HD and therefore all these studios would be shooting themselves in the foot to release any old movies etc in HD (loose alot of potential revenue) because they'd just look crappy?TM2-Megatron wrote: Given the age of a lot of these shorts, I really doubt it's even possible to put them in actual HD... they weren't originally done with enough detail. James are you saying they have not been releasing all of the Treasure Series in Australia and they've only been releasing 1 or 2 of the various series? I live in Region 1 so I don't know anything about the Australian or Worldwide releases but (Correct me if I am wrong, anyone) I understand that Region 2 releases are not "limited" and are supposedly easy to get and inexpensive. Maybe this would be an option for you?James wrote:and they've only released two of them here in Australia. They're the same as the ones released in the UK, and I actually bought the Silly Symphonies DVD. I'm glad that I did, because I mightn't be able to get it in future years, but I hope that they decide to release the second volume of Silly Symphonies here in Australia. I will be extremely angry if they don't. I'd also like to see Disney Rarities released here, but I highly doubt it.
Adam- How do you buy them off DMC?

They released Mickey Mouse In Colour 1 and Silly Symphonies here in May 2004, closely followed by Mickey Mouse In Colour 2 and Chronological Donald 1 in August 2004. And that's your lot. It's only that same small selection that's been released in the UK/Region 2 as well.Pluto Region1 wrote:James are you saying they have not been releasing all of the Treasure Series in Australia and they've only been releasing 1 or 2 of the various series?
MK, you are saying that Region 2 then, does NOT have the complete waves like we have here in the USA.... If so, then there would be no point in me trying to fill my collection with Region 2 releases since they don't exist. I do happen to need MM IN Color Vol. 1 and II I think, but I also need titles like Disneyland and Goofy and Davey Crocket.MK Sharp wrote: They released Mickey Mouse In Colour 1 and Silly Symphonies here in May 2004, closely followed by Mickey Mouse In Colour 2 and Chronological Donald 1 in August 2004. Yeah, you'd think so, but none of the stores within a viable radius sell any of them. I guess that no one wanted the Treasures, so Disney thought it would be easier to just not sell them. I've looked at some stores close to me, but they just don't sell them anymore. They released them in 2004, and it was hard to find them then. The copy of Silly Symphonies that I found was hidden on the back of MYER. I was so happy that I found it, I bought it the next day, when I had got some money to pay for it.Pluto Region1 wrote: I live in Region 1 so I don't know anything about the Australian or Worldwide releases but (Correct me if I am wrong, anyone) I understand that Region 2 releases are not "limited" and are supposedly easy to get and inexpensive. There are six of them, covering the whole world.Pluto Region1 wrote:Are there any other DVD regions besides Region 1 and 2? is there a Region 3 in the Orient or something? Just curious.
Correct. The complete waves are limited to North America only. We here in The Rest Of The World have only had those four titles.Pluto Region1 wrote:MK, you are saying that Region 2 then, does NOT have the complete waves like we have here in the USA....
Indeed. But if you can play PAL R2 discs, you might as well go for the UK version of MMICv1, rather than paying silly money for a US version. Save your silly money for Goofy instead...Pluto Region1 wrote:If so, then there would be no point in me trying to fill my collection with Region 2 releases since they don't exist. So what are you guys over there in Europe, England, Australia etc doing? Are you buying the American R1 versions on Amazon or something (those of you who are collecting) and playing on a Region-free DVD player? My husband seems to think that might not work because the TVs are different or something he says the image on your screen might be cropped funny depending on how the player does the conversion. Based on what he says, I'm not going to buy the Region 2 releases as it might not play good here.MK Sharp wrote: Correct. The complete waves are limited to North America only. "We" definitely do - "we" use the whole world as our playground!Pluto Region1 wrote:So what are you guys over there in Europe, England, Australia etc doing? Are you buying the American R1 versions on Amazon or something (those of you who are collecting) and playing on a Region-free DVD player?
Most PAL tv's manufactured in the past 15 years or so are multi-standard, so play NTSC perfectly fine.Pluto Region1 wrote:So what are you guys over there in Europe, England, Australia etc doing?
