The animation was often incredible, but as the review here on UD says, the story was lacking. Full of one dimensional characters, a recycled Land Before Time plot, and an imbalance between a drama and comedy. If they spent as much effort on the story as they did the visual, this movie would have been the blockbuster it should have been. I have the 2 disc set because I do marvel at the animation (and my young daughter is a dino buff), but I sometimes watch it muted with my own soundtrack playing in the background

I watched this movie once and didn't find it entertaining for some reason. It just didn't peak my interest at all. Not so much because of the animation but the story backing it really wasn't good. But that doesn't mean you wouldn't like it. I suggest like I always do that you rent the movie first and see if you want to buy it or not. Cuz really I can't tell you to buy it, when it comes to movies you gotta decide for yourself.

I bought the single disc edition when the movie came out. I didn't see it before so was quite excited to get it. Guess what? I'm glad I bought the single disc edition.

The only thing going for it is the visuals, the audio... and now a DVD that you can show anyone to be blown away. But nothing more.

As said before: the characters are flat.

The story fails WAY too short to what The Land Before Time did with the EXACT SAME STORY.

The word "enough" is said so many times that you get enough of it.

If the dinosaurs can talk, how come the "bad ones" can't?

... and please, above all. HOW ON EARTH COULD THEY STOLE THE CLIMAX FROM THE LION KING?

I have nothing against copying situations of other movies (like the last minutes of Beauty and the Beast from Sleeping Beauty). But stealing a climax is TOO MUCH.

.... the same thing happened with Spiderman and Batman Forever (and I hate it just because of that).

PS

I'd like to have the Collector's Edition just to get a better understanding on the work spent. But the movie is not worth it.

Which Toy Story DVD(s) should I buy??

I am looking for Toy Story 1 & 2 on DVD for my 3 year old son. He has the very old Toy Story 1 VHS but it is just about worn out (I bought it for my 14 yr old son when he was little).

So anyways, I am looking on ebay and I see a couple different ones. I mean, the cover art is different on some of them. Why is that? It's the same movie (1 or 2) but the covers are different. Now I am confused about which ones to buy. Which ones are the best to have and keep (from a collectors point of view)??

Or would I be better off to just buy a 2 disc set? Or the new 10th anniversary set (but thats just toy story 1 right?). I am kind of lost....

Can anyone give me specifics on which ones are the best to buy?

Welcome to UD Mom2Four

As for your problem, your better off buying the 10th Anniversary addition of Toy Story and then wait until December 26th for the second one.

But if your a dye-hard DVD collector and REALLY want the Ultimate Toy Box, there are some on eBay you can buy, but be warned, they are very expensive(since it's OOP).

Hope this helps!

Unless you just wanted the Toy Box I would get the 10th Anniversary Toy Story now and then get the Toy Story 2 thats being released on Dec. 26th.

Go for the Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition, the Ultimate Toy Box will cost you a fortune.

Nice price on the DVD Tracy. :) He will love it. I never had the Ultimate Toy Box so I can't compare, but the 10th Anniversary is a great DVD with some really nice bonus features.

Keep an eye out, a lot of the 10th Anniversary DVDs came with a $3 off coupon inside the case for Toy Story 2 when its released.

I was gonna start a new topic but I was smart, and used the search feature instead. This thread and the guide really helped anwser a lot of my Pooh questions. I just have one more:

Are: Seasons Of Giving, Un-Valentine's Day/A Valentine For You, Frankenpooh/Spookable Pooh, worth getting? Are they just collections of the 80's tv show? Or do they have decent 90's primetime special stuff? Do they over lap with other Pooh dvd releases?

Heres my Pooh collection so far....

I already own:
Many Adventures of WTP
Tigger Movie
Heffalump Movie
Spring Time with Roo

I plan on getting:
Piglet's Big Movie
A Very Merry Pooh Year
Heffalump Halloween
Pooh's Grand Adventure (when it comes out next year)

Should I buy Fantasia?

Ok. The thing is that I found a brand new copy of Fantasia in a Blockbuster near me. And I'm always wondering if I should buy it or just wait for the PE. I'm no Fantasia fan.... in fact, I barely watch Fantasia 2000. So for me, the extras on the future PE don't interest me (I haven't even watched the ones for 2000. Having that in mind, do you suggest me to get this copy of Fantasia or should I wait for the PE?

PS

The things that matter the most for me are the video and audio on the DVD. I don't know about the video but I think the audio has to be great... I mean, is a concert after all and the one of 2000 sounds great already.

Another thing that holds me from buying it is the price. This DVD is sold for $25. I mean, when the PE gets released it won’t cost that much…. And even if it did THEN it would be worth it, considering that it will have 2 Discs, a video restoration and a DHTEM (? How are they going to improve this?)

Yes.

Even if you're not a big fan of the movie, it's still worth buying. I love it a lot. Especially the animated short for ''Dance of the Hours''.

Well, another point is that if I buy this DVD I won't be buying the PE later.

Do we really know that there is a PE coming for "Fantasia"? Or, are we just hoping? I get this one. You will not be disappointed.

Yeah, if you look on the page of the review and OOP DVDs, it doesn't say next to it that a PE is coming at some point (like for instance, it does say this next to Pinnochio). I think it's more that people think/hope one will be coming. I think that the Anthology covered most of the extras we could ever hope for.

That being said, I'd buy it. It's a classic and the odds you'll find a new one for $25 in the future is slim. Pick it up!

Yes, it IS confirmed!

After "101 Dalmatians" is released, there will be 4 new platinums: Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty.

As for the topic, I'd wait for the PE. I mean after all, it could be an UNedited version!

It was added (in a press release/news bulletin a few years ago) to Disney's list of four more platinum titles on top of the original ten that they will release (the others being Pinocchio, Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty).

Anyway, I have to say that it's difficult to say what to do in this case. If you can rent the DVD easily, I'd say that would be a better idea and a good thing to hold you over until the Platinum Edition, which will probably have slightly better picture quality, and hopefully the minor edits will be dealt with there. If you can find The Fantasia Anthology though, I'd say "pick it up".

EDIT: MinnieMe/Justin have helped DVDJunkie before me. Naughty them.

Don't buy it! The DVD is censored. Hopefully the Platinum will be uncut.
