I can't say I'm excited for this movie. Everything we've seen so far makes it seem like a copy of the original with the exception of the sister and the three characters who will most likely annoy me.
The bat villain’s also a new addition to that makes a strong case for this sequel.

And first look at the Matangi doll from Mattel. It's on Mattel's own website, so I guess we're allowed to post it this time. (More dolls and toys
here and

I don't remember if it was already known, but in the description it says she's a demigod like Maui. She's also described as "mischievous, mysterious and charismatic." And the back of the box of the
Moana, Loto & Matangi Petite Gift Set calls Loto and Matangi "Moana's new friends who help her on her adventure."
I think she still be Moana's adversary, but it's clear by this and especially the interview with the composers
Sotiris posted, that she won't be a traditional Disney villain. I already suspected this since I first saw her design. Disney villains don't always wear black nowadays and it's not always evident from their looks they're evil, but something about her already made me think she would be redeemed or be a "misunderstood villain."
As for the film's other villain, Nalo, the god of storms, I don't know if you guys noticed, but the latest trailer/TV spot revealed his face, while the new poster seems to show one of his hands. I suspect this character might not even speak and be a bit like Te Ka from the first movie.

This movie is definetly getting a B+ cinemascore like Wish, but also like Frozen 2 that made 1.4 billion at the box office
The plot will be very empty, the song very mediocre (the one we have listened is very generic like Wish) and the new characters soulless since they went from TV show to movie erasing all their character development
Amazing. Every word of what you just said is wrong. The CS for Wish was an A-,not a B+, the plot will not be empty, the new song is catchy so far, and the new characters will not be soulless since Jennifer Lee said they'll each get a moment to shine.
Yep sorry I meant A-
But A- for family animated movies is awful

Thanks for posting those links to the toys! To be honest, I was looking forward to the dolls (just like I did with Wish), but the dolls of Moana herself are disappointing. They look generic and lackluster. And that`s despite how Mattel are making them again, as opposed to Hasbro. At least the dolls for Simea and Loto looks better, but they still don`t look amazing. The small toys looks better, though.

I also believe she's not going to be a real villain, but the original didn't have one either, so I guess it's following in its footsteps, like with everything else. But maybe she'll be Maui's love interest or the very least Maui's crush who isn't interested in him.

I have seen more dolls on Instagram but I'm not going to share them because I don't know if these accounts are allowed to share this content.
I have to admit that the Villain looks really bad. She doesn't have much details and looks like a generic character from Moana's village.
I'm sorry, I don't see this movie as a good idea and I'm not excited about it. As I said before it is a fast way for Disney to get money and I don't wanna live another era with movies like "Fox and the hound 2" but with more recent classics, something like "Encanto 2: Isabella's wish".

I really hope this villain isn't a misunderstood villain who does heinous crime and then the movie tries to guilt trip us for for waiting her to be defeated or killed., but I don't have high hopes. A lot of people these days at least in the Western hemisphere have inherited the victim mentality and that is reflected in a lot of the villains today.

I think she's really the villain, one of the complains from the first one was the lack of a true villain

Usually the Japanese trailer of a Disney movie reveal more of the core plot than the Amercian, but nothing significant was revealed there. I really want to know more about the villain, I just found there was actually two villains and the bat lady is a secondary antagonist, not the main one.
I don't want Disney to spoil the movie, but the trailer isn't enticing me to watch the movie, so I would like to hear one or two speaking lines from both villains so I can see if I might like the movie.

The villainess looks so bland. Reminds me of those beta villains from Aladdin TV Shows or the DTV sequels

Theres not much richness in her Silhouette or Design. Normally simplicity is the key but not in this case lol
Still getting the Art book tho

Moana has more details than the villain in her costume. Even the villagers have more details. She looks so unnatractive to me. As you said she looks like a villain from a Disney tv show or even like one of the villains that appear in Disney's Video games from the 90s

So I’m not excited for this project in general and have a lot of reservations… but I like the villain’s design. And I have hated the designs for almost all the villains in the CGI era. Mother Gothel, for example, is so unsatisfying visually for me.
But this new villain— I think her costume’s color scheme is pretty unique, I don’t think we’ve seen a villain use orange before? I like the little adornments in her hair and around her neck. I love a cape moment. I think her face is pretty and visually striking. I like that she’s going to have some connection with bats and I like that she’s a woman. We’ve had so few female antagonists from Disney in the past 15 years.
I am more concerned about her role in the story, and I’m bracing myself to be disappointed by another villain’s redemption arc. But the design I don’t see any issues with personally.

I'll be surprised if Disney isn't accused of colorism for making the villain much more dark-skinned than the heroes.

Omg I was thinking the same.
hard to believe nobody at Disney intervened there. I guess that shows you how rushed this production is.

It's funny you say that. We forgot that the Renaissance era had only Ursula, when the Post-Renaissance era had only Yzma.
And if we only take into consideration the last 15 years, we had Mother Gothel, Bellwether, Te Ka, Namaari and Alma Madrigal (and now this Matangi). Saying that "we've had so few female antagonists in the past 15 years" is a bit exaggerated, since none of these were actually critically-panned or treated as a joke.

In present day (from what I've seen in social media) activists ask for villains of color, it's considered cool to be a villain nowadays
As long as that villain is a not considered evil for being darker activists from social media will not have any problem
Btw I like her design, I don't get why people are disliking her design

The only reason it's happening is because non white actors called out Hollywood for not casting them as antagonists anymore:
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movie ... 235293379/
And the only way it's acceptable by these "activists" is if the protagonists are non white as well like in Black Panther.
The fact that she has a darker skin tone is the first sign that she's not actually a villainess and is going to be redeemed.

Well, I guess that’s a fair point. I think I forgot them because most of them were lame.
