I saw it tonight at the drive in. It was cute. I loved the Dean she was my favorite character. She really reminded me of Lady Tremaine/Maleficent. I am so bummed Disney didn't release plush of her but maybe due to her complete sex change they didn't have time.

I was listening to the Monsters U soundtrack and noticed on track 15 Randy Newman shamelessly recycles his most memorable, Oscar nominated theme from A Bug's Life. Seriously, it's identical.
I don't think he has anything innovative up his sleeve anymore. Time to retire.

I noticed that too!
He did the same thing in TPatF, after Naveen and Tiana spend the night in the tree after avoiding being eaten by gators. As the scene transitions to morning, the musical cues are absolutely from A Bug's Life.
No, Randy, we DO remember. Be original, or go home. No, actually, just go home.

I noticed that too and I liked it to be honest. Though I noticed some of Randy's cues are sometimes repeated I actually never tire them.

Has anyone caught any cameos? Was that a drawing of sid I saw on that training game? I think I saw a skull shirt but it was so fast I didn't get a loot at his face. And did they turn the pizza planet truck into a police vehicle? Then there's the drawing of the luxo ball, and of course John Ratzenberger, but that one hardly needs pointed out by anyone.
What else did I miss? There has to be more. I was looking for some hint of Dory or a dinosaur but never saw anything.[/spoiler]
As for blue umbrella, not my cup o tea at all. Its only impressive on a technical level (the bokeh mainly), artistically I was bored. I don't think we should be striving for that photo real feel. And the animation style for the faces just felt tacked on as an afterthought.
Pizza PLanet truck is parked outside the JOX frat house when Mike and Sulley are chasing the pig and there are dinosaur toys inside the scare simulator at the last Scare Game.

Was rewatching Monsters Inc today and noticed how Mike tells Sully, "you've been jealous of my looks since the fourth grade" and that they only know of the abominable snowman by reputation and seem startled and put off by him and he doesn't seem to have ever seen them before either.
Good job Monsters University writers. Maybe next time you could try watching the movie you're writing a sequel/prequel to.
Oh, but good thing they put in the completely unnecessary near-sighted joke...

Yeah, they already retconed the whole fourth grad thing as just something monster say to each other, but I wonder what their excuse for that one will be.

I have yet to see a prequel where things line up perfectly with the original film.
Star Wars PT,
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,
X-Men: First Class and
XO: Wolverine,
Ariel's Beginning,
Prometheus,
Red Dragon,
The Hobbit, etc.: all riddled with inconsistencies. I'm not trying to make excuses for Pixar -- not adhering to established continuity annoys me to no end -- it's just an observation.

There are different kinds of discrepancies in those prequels. On the other hand, The Thing was a brilliantly researched prequel.
Monsters University really bothers me in a DTV kind of way. I'm sorry to everyone who really enjoyed it but it just reaked of laziness and mediocrity to me.

Well, would you know where the abominable snowman got banished off to?

It's not that they were surprised he was there. It's the fact that they didn't seem to know him at all and he didn't know them. I'm pretty certain the writers of Monsters, Inc. didn't mean for them to have ever met before.
The writers of Monsters University made him buddies and on a first name basis with the mail room guys. I guess they all just completely forgot each other. It was just another example of their lazy writing to get in the cameo.

I didn't know whether to post this gif in this thread or revive an old Monsters, Inc. thread to post it in.
Something pretty funny I found on Tumblr:

That would explain mike's memory loss, now if we could just find one for Sully.

If anyone is looking for the song "Gospel" by MarchFourth Marching Band, which was playing on the end credits and appeared on the trailer (but wasn't included on the actual soundtrack release), you can download the track legally from the band's BandCamp page here:
http://marchfourth.bandcamp.com/track/gospel
You name your price for the track but there's no minimum so you can also have it for free.

Well the 2d one is more in line with what I was expecting. But too cluttered. the other one is simplified, but poorly layed out. And the wall is pretty drab... maybe they're still finalizing them though.

I feel like such a sucker, deciding to pay $.50 for that track.

I finally saw it earlier today, and I really enjoyed the movie. It's not among Pixar's best, but there's plenty of great moments for both kids and adults.
As well as
Little Mermaid fans, if you listen hard enough.
