It all depends on how audiences and Disney themselves will treat these two films down the road in the future.

Disney profit soars 27% on strength of 'Frozen'

"Frozen" has become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time since its release Nov. 22, grossing $1.175 billion worldwide. Disney said the film's overseas theatrical performance and strong sales on home entertainment platforms including Blu-ray and DVD contributed to its studio division's strong quarter.

Disney said profit at the studio quadrupled during the quarter compared with last year. The company's four other units — media networks, parks and resorts, consumer products and interactive — also experienced double-digit profit growth for the second quarter in a row.

"Frozen" helped anchor the studio division's operating profit of $475 million and revenue of $1.8 billion. Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Robert Iger said on a conference call with analysts that "Frozen" is now considered one of the company's top five franchises.

"You can expect us to take full advantage of that over the next at least five years," Iger said.

In addition to a "Frozen" Broadway show in the works, Iger said that Disney is "developing some concepts around" increasing the movie's presence at its theme parks.

Maybe its the fringe, but she reminds me of a complete mix of Ariel and Rapunzel here ?!

No offense, but people need to stop constantly comparing her to Rapunzel. Yes, she's blonde and bubbly, but no way as modern as Anna. Rapunzel is pretty true to her era.

I'm not taking about her personality, just visually she looks like a combination of the two is all, from that test.

^^Really? That's the first time I've heard that and I'm interested more (knowing very little of that era other than some classic novels).

And yeah I think Atlantica was being clear she mean aesthetically similar.

That's what happens when the majority of a company's heroines are petite white ladies.

The gestures and expression and the fringe are what reminded me is all. When they come from the same pool of animators, bound to happen.

I'm seriously, check out these, and look at the bottom 3. You can't even say that it's fully a race issue, since Belle is the worst-selling by a significant margin.

WTF?! Why is Belle so low? This is ridiculous Tiana being so low due to racism isn't surprising though.

I knew Merida and Rapunzel were going to fall. Their movies aren't even 5 years old yet and people have moved on. They're toast.

I'm very surprised at Belle's ranking; I would have guessed she would be above Aurora. Also, how is Snow White so popular? I don't get it.

but if you think about it, Belle is the princess that has had nothing going on for her for the longest time after Snow White (again, what the heck?) and Tiana, but at least she has, sadly, fallen into the niche slot of the black princess. If anybody wants a black doll, they get Tiana. Which is really sad; I wonder if it hadn't been made a big deal that she was the black princess this would have happened. It probably would have though, we live in a pretty racist world. I also don't seem to see Belle in a lot of merchandise lately.

They need to do something with the brand to expose little kids to Mulan, Belle, and Pocahontas. Instead of putting them on backpacks, may be a few animated shorts here and there like what they tried with those Princess DVDs last decade. Treat them the way they treat Mickey & Friends and Toy Story, have them played before a movie or something. Respectfully done, of course. They could have done that before Frozen, Tangled, the The Beauty and The Beast 3D release, the Tinkerbell movies. Feature a princess that doesn't get a lot of exposure. Done the right way, it could keep the line a classic forever, like Mickey. Disney Princess has a lot of years of freshness ahead of it (that doesn't ever happen with a toy line) but that might not last forever.

Lady Cluck, I don't think people have lost interest in Rapunzel, she still is very much a beloved character from a very popular movie, but if she has lost steam it could be because she is basically the same character as Anna, just under different circumstances. The quirky, spunky girl with a heart of gold and random style jokes has been done over and over, but people don't mind. I don't mean to step on anybody's toes but I feel like Anna and Rapunzel are almost interchangeable. Even when Tangled came out, I thought she was a bit generic when it came to her personality. I don't mind too much anymore, they still made two great movies with it. I just wish people, and at least kids in this scenario, admired other kinds of people, like Tiana and Mulan who were more serious and determined but still just as lovable. Feel free to disagree.

And if anything, Elsa and Anna will lose steam much after Rapunzel does. Or at least Elsa.

It's a race issue, and also a culturall one I think. Most of Disney Princess customers (at least, the ones who aren't fanatic Disnerd activists) are middle class white little girls, who have grown up in this My Little Pony/Barbie catered entertainment, and for them the "true" princess image is the classical girly european one: a big gown, a huge castle, singing animals, etc.

In comparison Pocahontas and Mulan (and even Jasmine I'd say) seem foreign to these little girls.
