Great and interesting post, Divinity, and I feel the same way about Margaret Hamilton ‘s Wicked Witch of the West. However, I adore the Evil Queen and I can watch her scenes over and over. Probably my favorite is her trip down the stairs from the throne room to her laboratory. Absolutely stunning animation! I’d love to wear those queenly robes at least once!
Also glad to see another GWTW fan on these boards!

carolinakid wrote:Vlad, GWTW is my all time favorite book and film. I’m so happy I got to see it on the big screen in 2019 for its 80th Anniversary. I’ve read the book 3 times in English and Spanish and definitely want to read it again before I die.
My boyfriend and I are gonna see The Wizard of Oz on the big screen next month June 5 & 6 in conjunction with Judy’s 100th birthday. We last saw it in 2019 also for its 80th Anniversary.
That is so cool! The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorites as well, but I never got to see it on the big screen. I did see Casablanca, All About Eve, It's a Wonderful Life and Meet Me in St. Louis on the big screen, and it's a whole different feeling. It's like seeing them for the very first time.

I saw Casablanca and Meet Me in St Louis too.
It’s A Wonderful Life will be returning to the big screen for us in the USA this Christmas of 2022. Next month we’re planning to see Whatever Happened to Baby Jane 60th Anniversary and July is Cabaret 50 th Anniversary!
Here are some films I’ve seen in a theater in recent years:
An American in Paris
Singin’ in the Rain
Roman Holiday
White Christmas
The Ten Commandments
High Society
Ben Hur
West Side Story
My Fair Lady
Fiddler on the Roof
Hello, Dolly!
The King and I
The Sound of Music
I think Dosney’s missing a huge opportunity not bringing back its films on their anniversaries for a few days nationwide. We’d definitely love to see the Walt era classics at the cinema.

I think The Wicked Witch of the West tops the Evil Queen, too! She must be my fave live-action villain!

Disney's Snow White makes an appearance in an animated Croatian short film from 1998.

^ So weird. It's a second long and didn't look animated, so even if Disney knew about it, they probably wouldn't take legal action, right?

Thanks for the review Ames! So cool to read what they really thought of the film even when it first came out!

i skimmed over this a little this morning when it aired, and was just thinking that the film has a nice symmetrical structure. I don't know if I'd ever thought of it or noticed it before, but the Hag running from the Dwarfs at the end (complete with some branches grabbing onto her shoulder at one point) is an echo / reflection of the beginning when Snow White is running through the woods, thinking the Queen (or another of her hires) might be after her. Snow White mostly runs downward, the Queen runs upward, they both end with animals reacting to them falling (Snow White falling forwards onto the ground, the Queen falling backwards off the cliff)--the woodland creatures coming out to Snow White to comfort her versus the vultures to eat the Queen's corpse.
Is this also the only or one of the only films where the villain is the first character we see.

Even though I own the DVD, I recorded this so I could rewatch the highlights which means I’ll be watching 3/4 of the film!

I forgot to say also that I happened to see the Queen / Hag's voice actor for the first time in another film when I was watching an old B&W version of Tale of Two Cities (the voice was too recognizable to miss). If Walt saw that film before SW, I can see why he would've thought she would be a good choice for a witch.

In terms of new release news today, we’ve learned from industry sources that Walt Disney’s original animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) is coming to 4K Ultra HD later in the year! Like Cinderella, we suspect that it will likely first be released on the Disney Movie Club as part of the studio’s 100th anniversary celebration, then it will go into wide retail release before the end of the year. We’ll post more information on this as it comes in, particularly if any kind of official news breaks from the studio.

When they restore Sleeping Beauty, my 3 favorite princesses will be in their original glory again!

Bring on the classics!! What wonderful news, I hope everything gets restored and released. Especially everything that was a part of the Platinum/Diamond/Signature lines. And Poppins! And Sound of Music (now that Disney owns that too…)!

That is wonderful news, thanks a lot for sharing! Now, if only they would also release Sleeping Beauty in 4K, I'd be happy.
I hope Disney will give Snow White a beautiful, new restoration like they did with Cinderella. I like all the restorations they did so far, from the VHS to the Blu-ray.

I'm glad about this, though I wish there were more sources cause the Digital Bits can be a hit or miss.
Hopefully we'll see more 4K releases in the future. This is currently my wishlist:
However, I'll probably get all of their hand drawn films.

I hope faithful-as-possible restorations like these occur for all the canon, but particularly for those that have been screwed up in the past. Thankfully I have a rather cheap way to get any re-releases that are worthy thanks to the DMC. I think TLM is mostly fine these days, but I would love this to get one for its next release, too (and maybe the original poster of all the characters around Triton's palace as the cover even?
I'd love that!!!). B&tB and TSitS are probably the major ones I'd like to see look the way they should / once did.
Unfortunately, I'm skeptical the miracle that saved
Cinderella will come for B&tB, since whoever was involved with making it approves of the change to make it as bright as possible, I believe? TSitS, the only thing I would worry about is if it would get physical release. But if the package films can get releases now and then, I don't think it's impossible.

I'm actually fond of their animation and humor. I'll definitely get them if they're ever released.

Good to know!
I was just missing the posters.
I would even love to have the package features in 4K restoration Blu-ray or DVD!
