WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
That is so unfair! They don't even care how much effort Alan puts into his music!!! You know what?! It's official! I wish Disney hadn't made that selfish glory hog company called Pixar a branch on itself!!

I mean... I don't think Newman deserved the win, but I also don't think "I See The Light" was the best song either. It wasn't Menken's best work, and he REALLY needs to find a new lyricist equal to Ashman, or at the very least one better than Glenn Slater, who has never impressed me.

tsom wrote:Seriously?? If Randy Newman is so good, then why didn't he win last year with Princess and the Frog? I think the film title won that award, not the song. I'm not saying it because I'm bitter (I can admit that). The one by Gwyneth Paltrow was pretty cool! I was thinking that might even win.
Newman > Menken, since Ashman passed anyway.

I like your rational responses, have I ever mentioned that?
Seriously, what's the big deal? Menken's won a ton of awards. He lost this one. So what?

He also lost back in 2008, even if he got three nominations for his work on Enchanted, which is one of the few Disney live-action films that seemed worthwhile.
And I don't care if I get sent to Hell for this, but I hope Randy Newman and those selfish Academy people who cheated the Awards get hit by a bus!

And he won several times before that. Getting three noms I surefire way to lose because it splits the vote, anyone will tell you that.
Seriously, man, relax. You're being ridiculous.

I don't CARE how many times Menken won in the past! He deserved the win this year more than that pompous Mr. 'I Write the Same Song Over and Over Again'!

Why are you taking this so personally? Randy Newman has done terrific work for both Pixar AND Disney Animation.

Academy hates Disney.
Ok, I See the Light is a beautiful song but not best Menken's song.
But.............We belong together? WHAAAAAAAATTTTTTT???
I hate Pixar, seriously.

No. Even without good lyrics, Menken far and away >>>>>>>>>>>>> Newman

Toys beats hair. Makes me think of those chomping Cabbage Kid dolls that ate kids' hair.

From what I can tell, I think Randy Newman ran over his dog or something.

BECAUSE Newman didn't DESERVE the win! That's why! That, and everyone at the Academy is a bunch of assholes who like to piss people off for the hell of it like everyone else!

"Almost there, almost there, almost there, almost there, almost there" does not a good song make.

I'm not a huge fan of "We Belong Together", but a great deal of that soundtrack was just brilliantly composed and touching material.

And neither does "And then I brush and brush and brush and brush my hair."

Getting ready for the bashing, but, while I like "I See the Light" the most, "We Belong Together" was the best of the nominated songs. All the songs we're fairly underwhelming, and Tangled's music is not precisely one of Alan Menken's finest jobs, he needs a new writing partner, or go back to work Stephen Schwartz -or Tim Rice, I can dream-.
Also, you hate Pixar for this? Seriously? Calm down, you're taking your frustation on the wrong people here.

Yeah, I'm definitely not very pleased with the Academy's choice of Best Original Song this year, but there's certainly some over-reacting going on in this thread...

That's one line (kind of clever, imo), mine was generally the whole song. I win.

And I suppose you think the "Whole New World" clone was markedly better?
"Ma Belle Evanagline" or "Friends on the Other Side" is more vintage "Disney magic" than any of Menkin's rather bland
Tangled songs.
