Watched it Sunday and loved it! The modern dialogue didn't bug me as much as I thought it would, though I really wish they could have left out the 'like' in Rapunzel's song and had her say something besides 'freak out' twice. My husband hated it though, pointing out certain 'plot holes' such as:
Worst. Security. Ever - I have to agree with this one....
How was Mother Gothel was able to beat up two huge thugs- I argued that they were so intent on going after Rapunzel that they didn't notice her sneaking up behind them; all she had to do was hit one from behind then hit the other one before he realized what was going on.
How was the tower able to stay hidden all those years when it was so close to the castle- kind of agree with this one too; I think Gothel must have magic of some kind to hide herself and the tower; how was she able to steal the baby without being caught, she was even in her old lady form, they couldn't catch a crotchety old woman holding a crying baby?
And where did she get that tower? Did she build it? Find it?
Anyways those points really didn't bother me either. The songs were mostly fine, I don't think they're necessarily inferior to the songs in the previous classics. I never thought the songs in Aladdin or Lion King were particularly great or memorable, and I don't think I left B&tB with the songs stuck in my head either. I think some people tend to elevate the greatness of songs in previous classics partly from nostalgia, and I think it would be an interesting experiment to have someone who's never heard any Disney songs before rank them all after listening to them for the first time.
The saddest scene for me was that moment between Rapunzel's parents before the lanterns. Moved me much more than the ending did.
I totally want to watch this again. Maybe I'll try the 3d this time.

I honestly think people who dislike/hate movies based on plot holes are killjoys with no imagination.
There could be many explanations (especially in a fantasy movie) but they chose not to bother and instead state that they are illogical nonsense with no point of watching. I usually think in my head "well then why are you watching a fantasy movie?"
I wondered about those plot points too dollover.
I actually thought the stabbington brothers merely pretended to be beaten by Gothel, but they that wouldn't explain why they ended up in jail. However even the biggest, hulkiest, sexiest man have sensitive spots (especially on their heads, where you can't really develop muscles) to which Gothel probably took advantage of.
As for the Tower, well she is hundreds of years old. She would have extensive knowledge of the kingdom and probably found it or inherited it or schemed to obtain it upon stumbling it. It could have been an old watchtower, forgotten over the years. Many things she could have obtain over the many many many years she survived.

That is so cool! Where do you live and where did you buy the comic book? In which store? I want to have it too!
Also, this is the version of 'Something that I want' that is played during the credits of the Dutch dub. It's a duet.
The girl is one of the faces for the Dutch Disney Channel and they guy...I don't know..

You know, I thought the same thing until my husband pointed out that it didn't make sense-what would they have gotten out of it?
I thought maybe they had agreed to meet Gothel later after pretending to be knocked out, but how would that have been advantageous to just capturing Rapunzel directly like they were in the process of doing? So I had to grudgingly agree that they indeed did both get knocked out by Gothel, but I still didn't think it was all that farfetched that she was able to do it.
That's a good point about Gothel being hundreds of years old and knowing many secrets.
I also thought Rapunzel sometimes looked off model, which I didn't really think was possible with CG. Her looks ranged from very lovely young lady to petulant toddler, and her head did seem bigger than Flynn's sometimes but I think it really was because her head was rounder and more out of proportion so seemed larger than it was.

I think some CG characters can look off model at times.
I noticed Gollum looks different in certain shots of LOTR and Woody does look different as well at times.

Since everybody who'd want to go with me is too busy, I might just end up seeing this by myself, like I do most of my DVDs.
Unless anyone here lives in Appleton/Oshkosh/Neenah/Menasha, Wisconsin?
