Forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere in this thread, it's very long and I'm feeling lazy today.

I highly doubt that they will reanimate it. The rumor about the priest reached its fullest impact in September of 1995 when the American Life League examined the scene and claimed it an example of a "subliminal sex message" along with other scenes from the Lion King and Aladdin. The rumor about the original VHS cover wasn't helping matters either.

Janet Gilmer filed suit against Disney and Buena Vista about it a few months later but the case was dropped because the rumors were wrong. The proof that it's actually his knee we're seeing lies in examining frames elsewhere in the same sequence.

If the company was to admit to any wrong-doing here, I'm sure they would have digitally altered the scene in the subsequent VHS and DVD release, both of which remained untouched. I mean, in that same era they were more than happy to digitally alter "All the Cats Join in" and "Pecos Bill." And the reason parts of Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King were altered was for the Imax screening.

I just got the email back, and as usual, no info on anything about TLM, or The Fox and the Hound 25th Anniversary Edition. There is no release date set for The Fox and the Hound 25th Anniversary Edition DVD (said the email) GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

However, the most interesting feature is going to be a virtual ride-through of unused theme park material. It sounds really awesome, I'm more excited about seeing that than a remastered version of the movie.

One would think so but both the Aladdin "take off your clothes" and "Sex in the clouds" of <i>The Lion King</i> were tinkered with for DVD. Add in the Beast's repetitive "no" that was "cleaned up" and <i>The Little Mermaid</i> could make it 4 for 4 in the controversial changes department. Of course, I'm being slightly facetitious, but it is true that all three instances are not as they were on video. But like you said, it seems reasonable that the scene would have been changed in 1997 or 1999.

Ah-- thanks, that does clarify something for me. I was not aware of the Aladdin alteration, but it wasn't something I actively looked (er, listened?) for anymore (by the time the DVD rolled around, I simply didn't care).

As for the S-E-X in the clouds, I had read that the animation was the same and that only the background had been altered and didn't question it (I believe that was from a dvdtoons.com review). Yet again, something I simply didn't care about anymore.

As people here are getting all worked up, I want everyone to read Mr Reader's comments from a few pages back, which could all calm us down:

So even if the encoding is technically 1.78:1, it will probably have hard-matting at the top and bottom making it 1.85:1 (likely) or at the sides making it 1.66:1 (just as likely).

I can't speak for the fact Luke gave out of course, but as for the stutter. . .

In the original version, when the Beast tells Belle that he'll show her to her room. . .

Belle: "My room? But I thought--"

Beast: "You wa- you wanna stay in the tower?" (My spelling could be off here)

Belle: "No."

Beast: "Then follow me."

On the DVD, neither version of the film has the "You wa- you wanna stay in the tower?" stutter, it's been shaved down to simply, "You wanna stay in the tower?" Oddly enough, if you watch the film with the audio commentary on, you can actually still hear the stutter. You would have thought they'd leave it alone on the original version, but nope.

Okay, two things here. First off, what is the Beast's repetitive "no" that was "cleaned up" in Beauty and the Beast?

No, it doesn't Disney Duster, because I got the same thing. It might be hopeful if everyone here at UD would do it, but if only a few people do, it doesn't look too good.

I sent an e-mail. I don't think we'll get one but who knows what'll happen. I'm not getting my hopes up at all though.

What could be the reason that Disney isn't releasing it as a Collector's Gift Set? Did previous sets didn't sell well? Because with the humongous marketing campaign that is due, one would think that a Collector's Set is unquestionable. I guess not.

Actually, I think it's mostly parental/family-oriented groups with a chip on their shoulder, looking to draw attention to themselves by blaming the corruption of our nation's youth on something prominent in the media. Happens with every generation, whether it's about EC comics, heavy metal records, emo-music, or yes, even Disney.

You have to admit though, that heavy metal records have many insulting messages especialy for the religious people. Whether I agree or not with them, nobody has the right to insult something that for many people is holy or sanctuary.
