That’s assuming that there is no bias and they don’t overlook women who are skilled enough to be directors. I agree with WarmRegards that men have an easier time getting the job because they are just assumed to be good enough, whereas women have to “prove” they are.
Semaj wrote: The article does lay out a problem behind Disney's sidekick requisite, which actually was not that problematic beyond the initial trailers. Though, some people I've asked were hesitant to see Frozen, because they were afraid Olaf was going to steal the show.
I have to admit, that's why I wasn't looking forward to Frozen. Thankfully, Olaf isn't disruptive. I would've liked if they'd made him a little more relevant by having him interact with Elsa (like people talked about in this thread a long time ago), but I think he's fine, actually.

DisneyDivinity,

I cant speak of whatever bias may be happening at Disney, but I can tell you I work in the animation biz, and I have worked with LOTS of female animators, and female directors as well. I just think there are way more women in animation than there were 20 or 25 years ago.

Its a slow process for the environment to become equal... and I think Jennifer Lee will just be the first of many female directors. But I agree with Swillie that it is something that will happen naturally, not via "conscious effort".

I had lunch with someone at Pixar 2 months ago. He was the writer and director of one of the shorts that came out w one of the features. I asked him how he got to do that, and he told me he just pitched the short to his supervisor. That pretty much ANYONE at pixar is allowed (and encouraged) to pitch short ideas, and they are selected based on which one is best. And from my understanding, people who direct shorts are often then considered to be directors of features...

So, I've been digging on the Disney on Ice website :mischief:

And i noticed on the last of the list of DISNEY ON ICE shows, there's a show that says "NEW DISNEY" and they say that the earliest dates for "NEW DISNEY" are September 2014.

I think that it's the FROZEN ON ICE show! :D

Apparently, projections are that the soundtrack will sell between 200-225,000 copies this week. Going for that 2X Platinum trophy, I see.

Well, Patrick might be wrong about their princess date and we might be wrong about them joining the lineup in the fall!

You never guess what I found on deviantart.com. There is an extreme hand drawn animation fanatic named ToonEGuy who is also an anti-3D CGI animation jerk is upset that Frozen won the Academy Award for best animated feature. Don't believe me? Take a look: http://disney-club.deviantart.com/journ ... 0#comments

Now to assure you, I don't necessary hate 3d CGI animation and I'm glad Frozen won for best animated feature. I'm upset that Get A Horse lost, but not on Frozen winning two awards. I'm upset that Get A Horse didn't win is not because of hand drawn, I just Mickey Mouse to win, that's all. You know, I have to admit, even though I'm still waiting for Disney to do another hand drawn animated movie, but thank God I'm not like this guy. :P

I could totally be wrong at this point! I transitioned roles a few months ago and don't work with product releases anymore. I could understand them moving the coronation up to keep the Frozen hype going, although it would be strange if they stop producing Frozen merch separately and add both girls to the Princess products.

And you know, Disney had NO CLUE AT ALL (Heck, no one did) on how successful Frozen would be, so of course they're going to cornate the princess/queen immediately. Do not feel bad, dear. :)

Oh, I'm sorry about that. I hope you're enjoying what you're doing now!

I agree, I think they want to extend the hype in order to keep the DVD/Blu-ray and soundtrack selling well. The Frozen soundtrack could sit at #1 for a couple more weeks, depending.

So besides the Edelweiss/Disney marketing materials revealing two Frozen books being released (one October 7 and one October 14) leading up to the 3D Blu-ray release (no sooner than Oct 14), WDSHE has begun responding to inquiries and confirming that a "Frozen 3D Special Edition" will be coming "later this year."

So is it an actual special edition or is Disney going to pull a "Fantasia World" on us?

I don't think Frozen is done breaking records yet.

And while, just like The Lion King, it's far from my favorite Disney film, I'm more than happy to see all of Disney's competition, including PIXAR itself, once again in its shadow. Within a week or two it will overtake Toy Story 3 to become the number 1 animated film of all time worldwide. Only Disney and PIXAR can produce these numbers with non-sequel features. It's going to make over $500 million more than Kung Fu Panda, the biggest original non-Disney or PIXAR film.

All of these numbers are staggering.

Show them how it's done Mickey.

It's been pretty cool to see the general public embracing Disney again like they did when I was a teenager. :D
