I PRAY that this is not for real. The last thing online cartoon communities need is another nutty cult.

Though, seeing as how Disney today has a knack for driving away more artists than attracting them, who else but one who actually worked for them is going to speak up?

So next time, avoid the labels and comments and focus on debating my actual opinion.
I was just commenting that your posts are very cryptic and austere as if this is a very serious subject with a life or death outcome. I don't consider that an insult, but I apologize anyway. (Although I would joke that some of the comments made about these people we talk about, like Brenda Chapman and John K, are insults. It’s like people on a talk show who get a free pass to be judgmental about other people without being called on it. Just as food for thought.)

I think Brenda Chapman is really naive to have thought that her character wouldn't be converted to a Disney Princess.

All of this controversy isn't hurting Disney any though. How many people do you think would even know that Merida had a coronation ceremony, if not for the controversy -- which, in the end, amounts to nothing but noise.

People will still be talking about Merida in 5 years, but Brenda Chapman ... not so much.

She looks and sounds like an artistic hot-head by the way. Let's not forget that it was Disney/Pixar who gave her the job in the first place. If she really wanted to make a movie that wouldn't be merchandised to death, she should have turned down the Disney job and directed all of the independent films she wanted in obscurity.

As it stands, she just sounds like an ungrateful employee.

No, Brenda was an idiot to make Brave in Disney/Pixar to begin with, especially if this was her beloved pet project she been longing to create, since once something become made in Disney/Pixar, It's theirs not yours. They can do what ever the fuck they wish to the character from that point out. She should of known this from the get-go if she didn't want her characters to end up like that.

It pretty much sums up my feelings on Merida and Brave in general.
I have to agree with the article as well. Brave is not really a dreadful movie, but it is extremely overrated.

Hahaha! This is ridiculous! This has been horribly blown out of proportion!
Nobody complained about Mulan's or Pocahontas' redesigns!

Hahahah on the website

Exactly! Pocahontas' re-design is way worse than Merida's! To be quite honest, I like Merida's 2D presentation. She looks just fine, her waist is exactly like in the film. She was quite attractive, so I can't say that I think she was "sexy"-ed up in this makeover. Now, because of these stupid online petitions (seriously, people, online petitions???!!!), she doesn't match the other characters. I really hope they'll update the artwork in 2D.

Either that or remove her (even if that´s not going to be the case). She doesn´t belong there anymore.

But, let´s give this a thought:

1. Disney made her a princess when her character by default didn´t want to be one.

2. Brave is a Pixar movie.

3. Would Disney have sold less in merchandise if they didn´t include her in the Princess line?

As I said before, unnecessary.

Holy crap, those drawings have absolutely NOTHING to do with the princesses in the films. I wouldn't even recognize them. This is the lowest point in Disney history. I hate to say it, but some of the Disney rip-offs look more like the classic Disney than this.

I agree, all of those Princess shots looking barely anything like their actual counterparts.
Pocahontas looks quite frankly appalling !!
Why don't they all have screenshots from their films and be done with it ??

Exactly !! This just highlights how crazy this whole situation is .... the Disney Princess 'art' looks practically nothing like their actual film counterparts. Merida is no exception.

Hello? This is called merchandising. Do you think Mickey only wears one outfit?

Personally, I like the new Cinderella.

Her outfit is the only thing that stayed the same (more or less).

Is Donald Duck in Mickey's pants still Mickey to you? To me it's not.
But of course you have the right to like this completely new character in Cinderella's outfit.

Pixar/Disney's Facebook Page has made this statement
Merida has always been a different kind of princess--independent, strong and brave. We at Disney and Pixar are extremely proud of what Merida represents and that she exemplifies a sense of spirit, strength and character that sets her apart.

The recent impassioned response to the modification of Merida's appearance serves to underscore our belief that people truly identify with this character that we are so proud of.

We are deeply committed to keeping the integrity and appearance of her character intact. We hope that Merida continues to help redefine what it means to be a princess.

Apparently a fan shopped this together at some point:

While it needs overall polish, to me the lineart is much more solid, and probably less controversial. :p

It's interesting that this message has been posted only on the Facebook pages of Pixar and Brave and not on any other Disney pages like the Disney Princess, Disney Living, Disney Store, or the general Disney page.
