DisneyJedi, thanks I will consider that. I may have to suck it up and get the Diamond edition eventually. It does appear more visually appealing than the Platinum. May have missed the best pre-sale prices by now, but I waited this long so I'm not worried about waiting a little longer depending on the price.

jpanimation, didn't mean to depress you lol. Don't worry about posting more comparisons.

Ugh I just sat through some terrible YouTube reviews where these guys give shout outs to each other (ie. here is a copy of such n such Disney movie, I know that so and so and so and so own this one, too) and I didn't even hear much about what was different about the two copies being compared. I did find one pretty amusing, but just too redundant.

So did I get this right... the Jordin Sparks version is just a bonus feature? I like the original music.

If you use the $10 off coupon, you're going to get a pretty great price the first week it's out. Most stores have it for $24.99, so you could get it for $14.99, assuming you don't have any other additional discounts to add.

In the original theatrical version, when the Beast offers to take Belle to her room, a recording error (presumably) causes him to say the first half of his line ("Do you wanna stay in the tower forever?") twice (i.e. he basically says "Do you wan, do you wanna stay in the tower forever?"). The sound error was fixed for the Platinum, but not here (they animated the full, faulty line in the original).

By the way, thank you for the review, Aaron! :) It does look like we have the best presentation of the film so far, as well as the overall best release of an animated classic in a long time.

And as for more about the colours...well, I'll write it later when I'm sitting down in a red chair that was reputedly once brown. ;)

I guess, my hopes were to high! :(
I am sure I will still love it. :)
The stutter is back in. I was writing the Different Versions part before watching and then failed to go back and change that. My apologies! Thanks for catching it... I'll ask Luke to make that change.

Not a problem! Also Jordin Sparks Music Video, is that on the DVD copy as well? I was reading the review again and I didn't see that mentioned in there. The colors also look different in the review or unless I am more awake lol. I am also on my blackberry as well. But I love the review in all! :-D

On a side note everyone, I am going to make something special tonight for the Diamond Edition Release! Stay tuned tonight! ;) I can't wait!!! :-D

The Jordin Sparks music video appears as a bonus feature on the Blu-ray, but not the DVD. (It will probably show up on November's 2-Disc DVD set).

Are you kidding me?!?! Disney is that cheap not to add the music video on the DVD! They put the music video on the Snow White one! Ughhhh, DISNEY!!!!! Lol :x

The video's nothing special, and you can probably watch it in full on Youtube.

I don't have a coupon. I'm not really sure how to be on the list to get one?

This one is between the multiple releases this movie has had, including the LaserDisc and Diamond Edition.

This one is between promotional stills and the Platinum Edition. I think the comparison between Gaston's tavern says it all.

I think what you choose is important, as that will be the version that forever represents the film for your family. The lighting/coloring alterations change the dramatic intensity of many scenes and it will have a different impact on them. Hope the comparisons help you with your decision.
Uggh the lumiere number shows the biggest flaw with the platinum/diamond. Theres almost zero shading and lighting in the 'restorations.'
It was something I immediately noticed when I first watched the platinum
LD: Notice how when they first show the beast he's just a shadowy figure, so when he was finally revealed in full light it was more climactic.

Not the case in the dvd.

Its funny how demanding the original colors is out of the question.. but if Disney ever decides to skip out on some 5 minute featurette or music video.. heads will role.

What a wonderful and informative review AwallaceUNC, it was a joy to read :)

Such a darn big shame about the DVD being so crap. I'm actually pleased that they have left off the 'Special' in the DVD title now, and just simply call it '2 Disc DVD'. Will again be picking this up on Blu like I did with Princess and the Frog, even though I dont have a player yet.

I do wonder why, in the UK, that the Collectors Book only comes with the DVD, as it did for Snow White, and not the Blu ?

Today I went to the Saturday showing of Beauty and the Beast sing-a-long, with the new restoration, at my local theatre. When the beast is in the shadows (in both the opening sequence and in the dungeon with Belle and her father) he is MUCH more concealed in the shadows and darker than he was in the Platinum edition.

If the same restoration that was shown in the theatres today is the same as the Diamond Edition, it's gotten much better in my opinion. Also, the Beast's stutter was back in and Belle's reflection was there, but that has been made clear already.

Forgive us. You're new. Disney Movie Rewards will give you a coupon if you enter the UPC off a copy of the VHS or DVD. Heck, they pretty much have it right there on their site.

Why isn't everyone buying the Blu-ray +DVD Combo pack for "Beauty and the Beast"? If you don't have a Blu-ray player now, you know that you will eventually have one, so why not get ahead of the game, and instead of double-dipping on the titles buy the Combo Packs when they are available. The difference in price during the sale week is very minimal. So all the extras are in blu-ray only! So what!! Just save your money and when you finally add a Blu-ray disc player to your entertainment room, you will have all sort of things to watch that you haven't seen before.

I did that when they first started coming out and am glad of it. Also I don't buy too many discs NEW, I prefer to get them at my favorite used DVD store, CD Tradepost. The price for the Combo pack for 'Beauty and the Beast" will be $15.99.

Oh no, I collect everything Beauty and the Beast lol. :D

I pour over all the music videos from the Disney DVD's and put them on one DVD for the kids. I also add the ones I've edit, and they love it. :)

Isn't the coupon only good on the blu ray version anyway? Well, that's the one I'll be getting. My husband is a movie fanatic and he was all excited he found me Smallville on blu ray cheaper than the DVD price (season 9) recently as a birthday gift for me. I wasn't really worried about which version I got which was the funny thing, but since it's one of our favorites shows I think going with the blu ray was a good idea. Now I have to hurry up and watch it so I can watch the season on the air.

I only have the VHS version of the Christmas Beauty and the Beast. But they didn't require a code for the coupon. I just had to sign up for the rewards program thingy and I was able to print my coupon. Thanks! You guys rock.

How about that last shot before the Beast in the bath scene.
Did they really make the mistake of including the revised special edition shot in the "original theatrical edition" as was posted here some pages ago. I didn't find confirmation of this in the review.
Thanks by the way Aaron, great review!

It wasn't in the sing-a-long version I saw the other day :)
