Cool! Thanx for the post, Luke! I have to say that the virtual game does look fun. I like the deleted scenes too, b/c it seems to show a different story with Aladdin's mother and Aladdin in the lap of luxury. The "Why Me" scene looks more like an alternate version of when Jafar takes over the lamp. Genie's World Tour feature looks fun, too! I am now even more happy that I was able to preorder this DVD!

Even though most of the site's features are coming soon, what's there is very nice. It seems the DVD highlights page will be what we see when we open up the slipcover since the page is laid out very much like the interiors of the other Disney slipcovers. I can't wait to view the DVD clips on the site. Thanks for notifying us, Joe!

thanks for the site... I checked the download section and noticed a wallpaper image of Aladdin with the magic lamp... now I hope that is just a promotional image... because if it is not, and it is an actual still from the movie, then it looks to me like they re-animated the magic lamp...

Ok, I've encountered an annoyance: I tried entering the sweepstakes for the heck of it, but it's not letting me. Everytime I click enter on the sweepstakes page, it keeps wanting me to register even though I already am, so then I click sign in. Once I sign in, it takes me to the Disney DVD general page. How the heck do you enter this stupid sweepstakes?!

I think you have to go back to the sweepstakes page manually once you've signed in and try again. Could be wrong though, I've had no problems of the sort with it.

Is it just me or is that pic of Aladdin behind Clay in one of the music video screencaps a piece of new animation? It definitely looks like a frame from the movie, but I don't remember that shot at all. Perhaps the music video is partially animated?

I was actually thinking the same thing. I just thought that I couldn't remember the frame of the film. Least I know that it is not just me...

I think it is the scene from the end of the movie, in which Aladdin says good-bye to Genie.
EDIT: Animated-News has posted pics from the preview screening of the Aladdin and Mulan DVDs. I wonder if there is a transcription of the screening anywhere?

By the way, it indeed seems that Disney intends to release another highly-promoted special edition alongside their Platinum editions each year. I bet they are going to promote "Pocahontas" alongside "Bambi" and "Lilo & Stitch" alongside "Cinderella". Specially since "Pocahontas" is getting an 'all-new musical sequence inserted back into the movie', so it must be promoted with all the bells and whistles.

That would make a lot of sense. They gave us Sleeping Beauty with The Lion King and now Mulan with Aladdin. The Pocahontas with Bambi thing makes perfect sense because both films deal with nature and man. Lilo and Stitch and Cinderella don't really go together thematically, but it still makes sense because we know we're getting Lilo next year, so putting it with Cinderella is the only way to go. Although there's always the third option of Disney releasing Lilo in the summer (isn't that when the sequel's due?) and surprising us with another SE to pair with Cinderella (Dumbo, perhaps?).

Hi!!
yeah, Bambi & Pocahontas looks like a good couple, but I think too than L&S will be released on summer, but Cinderella will be the only one on fall

It's weird... the last week was released Lilo & Stitch Special Edition here, in México.

Hi!
yes, that´s true.
but I think than that is a commercial strattegy of Disney for make cheaper the re-release on US(they don´t spend more money, they just invest their proffits).
this have been also sawed on the re-release of The Lion King Two: Simba´s Pride.
I hope than Disney make this too whit Bambi

Well Disney share all of their supplements with their oversea's branches, so it doesn't really matter which edition comes out first (although sometimes America gets a few more supplements, but this is happening less and less recently). That also sort of disproves the "Disney can't afford to do 2 disc editions of marginal movies" argument too - worldwide even a marginal movie will sell millions of copies!
I think the real reason why Disney may release DVDs overseas first (and others - Warners have started doing the same recently) is to discourage people from importing the R1 copies.
According to a recent survey in the UK recently, over 90% of people have multi-region players and 30%-odd (can't remember) of all DVDs purchased in the country are imports. Quite a staggering number when you consider that because of UK law you can't buy imported discs in any shops (no BBFC certificate granted), they have to be imported over the internet. In countries like France, it is quite possible to purchase imported DVDs in shops like Virgin and HMV, so I would guess they would have a higher percentage of non-R2 sales.
It's clear the local studio branches have to do something to discourage importing.

The UK menu screens (pretty much the same as the US ones) are posted here
http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=11952
Looks like the Enhanced Home Theatre Mix isn't DTS based on the menu (no DTS symbol).
However, there is still one mystery - according to the menus there is an audio descriptive soundtrack (for the blind - so thumbs up to Disney UK for including this!) but...
According to the BBFC, the audio descriptive version classified on 29 July, 2004 has a run-time of run time 95m 52s while all the others classified around the same time, including the commentaries have a run time of 86m 38s!
It also boggles my mind how such an important feature as the Audio Descriptive track isn't even mentioned in the PR!

The menus at that link look wonderful -- simplistic but beautiful and striking. I hope they're the US mensu too.

Yay, I can't wait.

I watched my VHS this morning and since it's 10 years old the quality is horrible, can't wait for a great transfer.
I'm really late on buying platinums (I don't even own BatB and Snow White

) So I'll pick The Lion King with Aladdin as well.
