I'm not really hyped for this movie either. It to me also looks bleh but I'll reserve final judgement until I see it. I won't be seeing it in 3D because I don't think it's worth doing and it's cheaper to see in 2D. I'm taking my girlfriend and my dad to see it and I have a Disney movie rewards free ticket so the cost to see it for the 3 of us will be $8 if I see it during a weekday which is what I plan on doing.
It's good to hear it's better than Cars 2.
EDIT
Never mind I realized it's The Good Dinosaur. That's one I'm looking forward to

While I've definitely been wanting to see this, I'm not all that excited. I have a feeling that
Despicable Me 2 is going to prove much more popular with audiences.

I think Despicable Me 2 is going to wipe the floor with Monsters, University actually. I wouldn't be surprised to see a $200 million gap worldwide. Maybe even more.

I've seen very little advertising for DM2, though, whereas I see MU everywhere.
To be honest, I'm not even quite sure what DM2 is about...

I didn't have a clue what the first film was about. But the minute Agnes or the minions come on screen audiences go f*cking nuts.

Yeah, pretty much. And the first screening actually received
a standing ovation at the Annecy Animation Festival.
I wasn't really interested in the first one, but Rey didn't have a hard time talking me into going (it's animated, after all!) and I ended up absolutely loving it. Gru's a favorite character of mine and I'm looking forward to part two. The first film is relatively fresh in people's minds and a lot of people seem pretty excited for this thing.
And yeah, I bet Pixar's going to suffer a blow thanks to this film; I'm not gauging the same audience reaction for Mike and Sully at all.

There's actually a huge online buzz for DM2; mainstream advertising hasn't hit hard yet since it's not out until next month. Apparently the Anti-Villain League
kidnaps calls on Gru, you can see the trailer if you click on the link in my previous post.

Yeah, children and plenty of adults love those Minions and I wouldn't be surprised if Despicable Me 2 becomes the highest-grossing animated film of the year, both domestically and worldwide.

Well, there is this bit of advertising for the movie.

I dunno about you guys, but this is better promotion than anything I've seen Pixar too.

Yeah I saw that when it was on. That was brilliant.
I also am looking more forward to Despicable Me 2 over Monsters University.

Has anyone gotten their free ticket to work on the disney rewards site?
http://www.disneymovierewards.go.com/pr ... versitytix
I entered the code and it registered but there's nothing to click on to get to the ticket itself. Does it not go live until after midnight?
If this fails I can always use the box kellogs promotion, but I was hoping to use both. to see it in 2D and 3D for free.

Mine has been live since February. Redeemed it this afternoon and just got back from an 8:15 show. It was a good film, but not great. Theater wasn't very full either.

Just got back from my local first showing (which was packed, partially due to two full buses of tweenage/teenage kids attending from some organization). I rather enjoyed the movie. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as Monsters Inc., and it wasn't, so nothing to be disappointed in it at all. I don't expect perfection from Pixar nor do I expect every movie they put out to be a flat out masterpiece. I hope the film does well, I had fun with it and look forward to owning it when the time comes.

Why isn't mine working then? Does it only work for the 3D version? I just have the older blu ray release.

The original 2009 release does not qualify for the ticket offer, only the newer Collector's Edition and the 3D Ultimate Collector's Edition (and the newer DVD edition if you count that too)

Well that's just stupid, punishing me for being an early blu ray adopter. I could see if they wanted to push one format over another, even the 3D version. But theres such little difference from the first release to the collectors edition that I dont know why they bothered.
Oh well, I went ahead and entered my kellog's codes to get it. I eat almost exclusively miniwheets for breakfast anyway so it was a no brainer.

I saw this last night at a screening and was pretty underwhelmed. I loved Monsters, INC., and really wished that Pixar decided to do a sequel as opposed to a prequel to that film... unfortunately, I'm still wondering why they chose to go with the latter, as I believe the former would have made for a more worthwhile inclusion to their canon.
I'm disappointed that I haven't seen a legitimately good Pixar film in quite a while. Hopefully The Good Dinosaur{/i] proves to refresh the company's filmography, as it is getting closer and closer to that point.

Then people would have complained that Pixar was sequel crazy.People forget that in the beginning everyone complained about Monster Inc getting a sequel.I have a feeling if this was some other studio people would be saying how good this is.

Just got back from the movie and let me say it was great!!!!!
Simply, positively, absolutely loved it! I've never been this excited for a Pixar movie since Toy Story 3. Pixar, a job well done!

Well... I can't say much and your mileage may vary, but if you loved Monsters, Inc., then I'm sure you'll love Monsters University as much, if not more! I know I did.
