*Diamond Edition does not sound THAT bad a name, you guys.

I've heard worse names before (think FOX's Family Fun Edition )

....Or some of Disney's recent edition names. Seriously, "High-Flying Edition!?"
"BatB: Diamond Edition" sounds MANY times better that "BatB: Big Furry Friend Edition" of "BatB: Enchanted Household Objects Edition."

Sorry my scanner's not currently connected up, but I did however find the exact image of the cover as it appears in the booklet listed on the HMV site along with many othe proposed Disney Blu-Rays such as Hunchback, Aladdin, Fantasia, Tarzan and even Toy Story 3!!! (They really are thinking ahead, considering it doesn't even hit theatres till next year!) Though I know these have been posted somewhere on this board before, anyhow here's the link to Beauty and the Beast

Also just incase anyone hadn't seen the listings and wanted too, bearing in mind that these releases haven't been officially confirmed by Disney and the likely hood of any of the art work being used as the film's cover art when it finally gets a Blu-Ray release is exceedingly slim!

I wonder: Will Disney put any effort in future Dvd releases in the sense that they bring out 2 disc editions loaded with bonus features, or will they totally give up on good DVD editions because "Blu-ray is the future"? I hope Disney takes into account consumers that are not so quick to jump onto a new technology, simply because of the costst or because of other priorities.

they should've just make one-disc dvd equivalents.... it sounds more appealing than having to change discs for very little worthwhile content.

Can you name me one example of a movie that didn't get an equal dvd edition compared to the Blu-ray? I doubt it.

It still has a 2-disc release, I'd hardly call that a mediocre release. Forgetting about the Mary Poppins re-re-re-release on dvd? Where was the Blu-ray? Or the BD of Oliver and Company? You have every Classic out on dvd, and still there's something left to complain about. The 2001 dvd of Snow White also had more features than the VHS, was that unfair?
It's not like those extra features on the Blu-ray are out of reach, or something. Just buy a player, it's that easy. Both the players and the discs themselves are dirt cheap.

Now, this is a fair point. Those things made me feel bad for the Blu-Ray fans. I don't understand why Disney did that at all, considering that the format is their darling. There is one glaring exception to the DVD collection, but you guys don't have it either. When "Song of the South" goes to Blu, I'll adopt the format in a heartbeat! (Hint, Hint, Disney!)

VHS could never have handled the bonus features on the PE. DVD could handle at least a fair portion of the Blu extras. It's a matter of technology, not simply marketing. So yes, it was fair then. No, it isn't fair now.

Easy for you to say. I guess you're not struggling. Many families are. In the interest of sensitivity, especially with the economy in the shape it's in, I would be careful who I said that kind of thing to. I made the statement on a different topic: You can't enjoy your brand new Blu-Ray player if they've shut off your power because you spent the money you were supposed to spend on bills on your Blu-Ray player!

Dvd's can be played on a blu-ray-player so blu-ray fans have little reason to complain when a blu-ray edition of their favourite movie isn't out yet.

And though every classic has been out on DVD, not everybody had the opportunity to collect all of them. That's why there are re-releases.

VHS could've handled it, with a separate tape. Laserdisc did the same thing. It could be done, but they didn't do it. And it's still a matter of technology then. The Hyperion Studios feature cannot be on a dvd in the shape it is now. So that would be fair

Honestly, if you spent the money on a Blu-ray player (or dvds for that matter) instead of paying your bills, you're spending your money on the completely wrong things. I just said that the so-called higher prices (which is the most discussed about negative point of Blu-ray, apparently) aren't a factor anymore. The Blu-ray of Snow White was 10 bucks at Amazon.
So if the prices aren't a factor, and the higher resolution is well established, what keeps you from adopting it? You might not like the marketing, but aggressive marketing is something Disney does with everything.

Maybe the prices aren't a factor for YOU. Think about it. I can scarcely afford DVD as it is. My family is struggling. It's impossible for me to get a job, so I babysit my younger brother, and the most my mother can give me (since she can't afford to give me an allowance) is $2 an hour. I save up for weeks to buy a single DVD. Sure, I could get a Blu-Ray for ten dollars, but I certainly can't get a player!

I remember when American Beauty came out on DVD and VHS, the VHS actually included a bonus tape with most of the DVD extras.

I think I will be fine as long if they're still planning to do the BluRay DVD combos for the next few years. BluRay players are bound to go down in price real soon (maybe as early as these upcoming holidays). Plus most families who are financially tight are more for the movie than they are for the special features. If they know where to shop they can buy the BluRay Combo at the price of a regular DVD set.

Now to get back on topic: I know I shouldnt hope but maybe Disney has listen to the complaints of the past regarding the PE's coloring and "theatrical version" of the film and will just HD the heck out of the original film. I certainly hope this will be the case for The Lion King. Heh

I don't know... I grew up with the old version of TLK, too, but I thought that "The Morning Report" was a more clever idea than the OTV. Of course, it was rather off-putting that the voices were so different....
"Human Again" was a much better addition, though. I really liked the changes to BatB, horrible as it may sound. Case in point: the Cogsworth incident. The OTV looked, frankly, ridiculous, and the animator himself wanted a do-over. The less exaggerated edit is much more in line with the character.
I hope that (with both movies) they make both versions an option. Some prefer the changes, some prefer the originals. All fans should be able to enjoy the version that they prefer.

Fraid to ask but what's The Cogsworth Incident? I must admit I never noticed the difference between the two versions seeing I didnt watch the original as much.
