I wouldn't worry about Luke Evans singing. He started out in musical theatre on the West End in major roles in Miss Saigon, Avenue Q, Rent and others.

Here he is singing the Gaston-esque Delilah: http://youtu.be/XZOkWV9POcs rotfl

Also, it looks like they are keeping the cast British. At least, as of now, everyone confirmed is from the UK. Granted, it's only three roles confirmed, but if Thompson ends up as Mrs. Potts that will be four.

Actually, I believe only Emma Watson is confirmed. Both Luke Evans and Dan Stevens are still in negotiations.

However, that doesn't mean it won't happen eventually. It's just not final yet.

Anyway, I am quite happy if Dan gets cast as The Beast. Again, I don't know if he can sing (though I'm sure he can) but he looks good paired with Emma and I think he's a decent actor.

I had seen Dan in 'The Line of Beauty', 'Sense and Sensibility', 'The Turn of the Screw' and 'Downton Abbey', but it was 'The Guest' that made me realize he hasn't used his whole bag of tricks yet. That was a transformative performance! He was very creep in that film.

Wow, Luke is a really good singer!

By the way, will they be using Alan's score in this film too?

Nope, Dan Stevens was officially confirmed by Disney:

Emma Watson tweeted the two of them to welcome them to the cast, so suppose Luke must be confirmed as well ? I can totally see him as Gaston, but can't remotely see Dan as the Beast.

I just remembered Dan sang briefly during the second season of 'Downton Abbey'. Click here to see the clip.

Apparently, Timothy Spall and Matt Lucas are rumoured to play Maurice and Lefou, respectively.

I'm not overly familiar with Dan Stevens and Luke Evans, but just going off looks, I think they fit their respective parts. It's nice to see that Evans already has a singing background (and a West End background, too). I'm not overly attached to the Broadway musical (though, my high school did put it on one year), but I am looking forward to this. It should be good, hopefully.

Everything looks very great so far!

Except...Timothy Spall as Maurice? Hard to believe beautiful Belle would come from...that. He doesn't seem like he could play a convincingly very heart-expressive father, but I suppose any actor can, well, act differently...

I saw that IMDB and I don't believe those rumors for a second.

First, like DD said, the most beautiful girl in town would not had a man, looking like that as a biological father. (Not to be mean) Plus, Timothy Spall is a little too young to be Maurice. I expect him more older-looking. On the other hand, Matt is too old to be Lumiere. And he's not attractive enough. Lumiere is still a playboy.

I mean, would you believe Belle came from Maurice in the 1991 film? And to be fair to Spall's genetic aptitude, he fathered a not unattractive son in actor Rafe Spall. Not that I'm particularly invested in this casting, but I do like Timothy Spall as a character actor. Still need to see his leading turn in Mr. Turner. Actually, now that I think about it, I can see him doing a charming "No Matter What."

Not familiar with the guy cast as Gaston (he looks the part, though) and I'm one of six people in the United States who's never seen Harry Potter, so I have no opinion on Emma Watson. Dan Stevens I know from Downton Abbey. I wouldn't have expected him, but it should be interesting to watch. Matt Lucas for LeFou? Good. Is Emma Thompson still up for Mrs. Potts? I like her but I'm not sure she's right for the part.

I don't think Belle has to have stunning parents in order to justify her own beauty ? He's a brilliant actor, and would think he'd be marvellous in the part.

Sure, but Maurice's final design wasn't exactly horrific either. He wasn't exactly hideous. He looked like a endearing grandfather.

Of course not, but since it's after all a fairy tale adaptation, the heroine/Princess is often the most beautiful because of archetypical reasons. Although I'm far from an expert on this, genes do have a purpose on beauty, although I suppose there's exceptions.

Either way, I don't mind Timothy Spall as Maurice.

Haha yes I never thought of that before, he does look like Belle's grandfather !!

And goodness knows how late Mrs Potts had her last child if she looked that age and Chip is only little.

Timothy has a really wide range as an actor, in my opinion.

I personally hope they get someone else for Maurice, but Spall isn't a bad actor.
