I have read the book and lked it a lot too, but I have kind of a "talent" to seperate movie adaptations and the books in my mind, so as long as the movie is well done and follows the essential story plots I am happy. It's more about the movie itself than the adaptation for me.
That's why I liked all the Harry Potter movies and most of the Jane Austen adaptations so far.
They did change a lot of Ella Enchanted's story but the movie itself was great and that's why I like it.

I watched And when did you last see your father? this afternoon. It was moving, sad, brilliantly acted, especially Jim Broadbent was fabulous and it's kinda is like "Big Fish", but with less colors. Liked it a lot, but it's not an easy film to watch.

Excellent film, even though the ending seemed to be written a little funny (or could have been the acting, but something seemed off). Anyway, great songs, great message, I really can't say anything more than that. It is easily give a 5 out of 5 for me and definitely worth watching time and time again. Now only if it had a better Blu-ray, I would totally buy it.

I thought there was a lot of hype about this movie. However, it really wasn't all that special (kinda like what happened with "Cloverfield"). I mean, it really just kinda started. There wasn't any development they just kinda took off with it. I wouldn't say it was horrible, but it wasn't all that great either. I'd have to give it a C+

I watched "Batman Begins" yesterday. I fast-forwarded through a lot (but I could see what was going on- it wasn't skipping chapters- it was on our DVR), but I watched a good bit. I taped it for Christian Bale, since I think that he's great. The first hour or so was pretty boring, in my opinion- it really got more interesting once the Batman stuff happened.

I had read that some people didn't like Katie Holmes in the film, but I really enjoyed the scenes she was in.

Since I didn't watch the whole thing, I really can't rate it. It's not really my kind of movie.

Fantastic Four:Rise Of The Silver Surfer-The first one is better.

I remember seeing that when I was young on an Italian TV channel (dubbed in Italian, naturally). Forgot whether it was good or bad.

The only thing I remember about the plot is something about a safe behind a painting, and two people in the costume of a zebra or a horse or a donkey nearing the end of the film. Yes, it's that vague.

The Spiderwick Chronicles-Very well done, although there was little charecter development and they left out the fourth book( which was my favorite). B+

All awesome movies. Even Last Holiday, which was way better than I thought it was going to be. And I haven't seen Cinderella in at least 5 years, I used to watch it all the time so it brought back memories.

I don't know what the "hype" is all about (I haven't heard it), because in fact what I've heard is that this film is awful. I was hoping it would be quite good. Something different than the damn Spiderman movies which we have far too many of.

This movie would have been so much more interesting if the Jumper wasn't a hero and there weren't enemies. If he had a sort of special power that almost no one else had. And used it to see the world. If they had made this a drama and not an action film.

Let's face it- this is basically a formulaic clone of Superman. With some X-Men thrown in for good measure.

I bought a few DVDs today and had the pleasure of watching a couple of them.

First, I watched "The Incredible Hulk Returns" (Bill Bixby). That's the one where he hangs with Thor. It was very '80's TV, what with the beach house and hellicoptor, vans and guns, etc..., but Thor did make it quite fun. Haven't watched the other disc in the set yet (the one where he meets Dardevil (who unfortunately just wears some black catburglar gear). I saw both of these back when they originally aired though.

I also watched "Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch", which I just picked up on sale at Best Buy. I was very impressed with this one. Aside from a change in Lilo's voice (Dakota Fanning this time), I found it to be an excellent little movie. That inspired me to finally watch my Tarzan 2 DVD. Tarzan 2 was also quite enjoyable, though it had more of a direct to video quality in the animation look. Still, it looked better than a lot of Disney direct to videos. Plus, both films had better music than the usual Disney direct-to-video. I think Disney direct-to-video would have been much better received if things had been kept at the quality of these two films. Bambi 2 is still the best though, but these handled the music issue better.

I also watched Annie yesterday. I picked up the DVD on the way back from a book signing trip to San Marcos. It seems many Hastings stores still have that out of print, widescreen/fullscreen version, and the one I got seems to be a corrected version from the flaws I had read about. Our local Hastings had two copies recently, but when I went back to buy one last week, both were gone. Glad I found one on the trip. Wish I could find the old release of Slipper and the Rose!

Stardust Love that movie, definitely one of 2007's best, and IMO better than the book. De Niro is priceless as Captain Sheakespeare.

27 Dresses One of the sweetest rom-coms in a long time. And just to let everybody know, I loved the "Gone with the Wind" wedding.

Michael Clayton (again)
The Spiderwick Chronicles
We Own The Night
Jumper
Cloverfield
Fool's Gold

Overall, I'd recommend all of them. There Will Be Blood is without a doubt the best film of 2007 and the best movie I've seen in long while. I can't imagine a better film from last year that managed to squeak by me.

CON: He's good, but his comedy stick is eclipsed by an old woman calling Simon Pegg "a cock"
PRO: But Simon Pegg being called "a cock" by an old woman is comedy fried gold.
CON: The rest of the film can't live up to this lowbrow comedy highlight

All in all, pleasant entertainment and charmingly funny (if not always laugh out loud funny) but slightly a disappointment considering the Pegg factor.

[update] I see on the US trailer, the old woman calls Simon Pegg "a pratt". What a disappointment. It really was the best bit of the movie.

Batman Begins

Pretty good, even though this is only the second Batman film I've seen (the first being Batman & Robin) and I haven't seen the other in a decade. I'd give it a solid A.

You just saw Batman Begins and Batman and Robin? i don't remember Batman and Robin (thought we had all the Batman films in TV when Batman Begins was out,maybe they"ll show them with Batman Begins when the Dark Knight will be out) but i heard it's pretty bad.
