Not just typically, but
contractually rejected Idols must wait (if they get a record deal at all) until they finish the summer tour and the Idol winner releases their first CD. So I wouldn't expect Melinda's debut CD for at least another 6 months.

Ugh! Thos Idol contracts are so lame!
I read somewhere that all contestants sign over their name, life story, and likeness to the show when they audition so when something like "The Fantasia Burino Story" is made, they make most of the money. I don't know if that is true or not, but that seems like the worst contract in history. I guess that's the price these people pay for this kind of exposure.
Well, Jordin's album will more than likely be pop and from personal observations, it seems like pop albums take the least amount of time to produce (except for maybe Country where artists like Toby Keith churn out 2 albums a year). So if Jordin's album gets released next October/November, we could still see a Melinda Doolittle masterpiece by years end, provided they let her start recording asap. I hope she hooks up with amazing producers.

Lazy me didn't vote this week, and my favorite, Melinda, got kicked off. I feel partially to blame. I got a little teary-eyed when Jordin went back home and started crying. I thought that was nice. And I thought it was sweet how Blake & his family seem so close. And I liked how happy Melinda was when she went back to her church. Good fuzzy feelings.
I guess I want Jordin to win now- I'd be more likely to buy her album than Blake'x...
Interesting story that I almost forgot:
I was talking on the phone with my husband's aunt yesterday (before AI), and she said that a few times when she called in for Melinda, she got either Jordin's or Blake's number. I don't know how many other people had that problem. But she did get to vote for Melinda a few times. In other seasons, or maybe even this season, too, if the wrong number was shown, or some other voting mistake happened, sometimes they would have a revote Wednesday night, and a new results show on Thursday. I guess no one at Fox knew about the problem...or maybe no one else had that problem...?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Clay Aiken's CD came out way before Ruben Studdards, did it not?
Also, there was supposed problems with the voting in season 2 as well. That's why in season 3 they started letting you use more than one number to vote for each idol when it got down to only a few (I think each of them had 3 numbers this week).

My sister was upest by the results last night. She's even thinking about not watching American Idol anymore.

According to Amazon, Clay's "Measure of a Man" came out October 14, 2003, and Ruben's "Soulful" came out December 9, 2003. So, you're right!

My uncle is a lawyer and his motto is "contracts are made to be broken." After season 2, I didn't know a single person who voted for Ruben over Clay. I wasn't a huge fan of either, but it seems like Clay was a much bigger success than Ruben and maybe 19 Entertainment decided to release Clay's album as soon as it was ready to meet public demand?
This year, it seemed like Katherine McPhee's album came out immediatley after Taylor Hicks. Maybe in the fall, they will release all three within a week of each other. Probably wishful thinking, but I want a Melinda album sooooo bad!
I remember after season 1 when Kelly Clarkson's album came out and I seem to remember buying Justin Guarini's about two weeks later (it was a blind buy and I sold it to Music Recyclery a week later).

You are right, in fact, Clay's release is why Idol started the contract in later seasons. In the beginning of Idol, producers never dreamed that the runner-up and previously rejected Idols would get their own album (after all, look at what happened to season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini), so such contracts never existed, but with the success of Aiken's debut release, everything changed. New contracts were drawn up by season 3.

Well.....hmm......color me shocked! If you would have asked me yesterday, I would have bet money that the two going to the finale would have been Melinda and (insert one name of the other two) and boy was I wrong.
The good news is that this assures that all three of the finalists will get an album, as Melinda is the only one I can guarantee would have an album even if she didn't make the final two.
And my votes will be going to Blake. I really don't find Jordin appealing. She doesn't have much unique about her and she seems really fake. (have I said that already here? I hope I'm not repeating myself)
Well, its on to the finale and something tells me that when Melinda sings her little solo bit in the group song, she's gonna get 2X as many cheers as everyone else.

I watched it last night and I couldn't believe it. Melinda should have won. I thought Jordin would get second and Blake third. I'm pretty sure Jordin will win now, so I really don't care anymore. I'll start watching again next year.

for some reason i kinda had a feeling melinda had it coming unfortunately....i wanted it to be melinda and jordin in the final....but since melinda doesnt have the huge teeny bop fan like the other two...and you could see it at their homecomings with jordin and blake having tons of teeny bop fans and melinda not having a huge population gather as the other two shows she wouldnt have the votes since most of the fans voting are teeny bops.....hope that made sense....poor melinda hope shell have a great career anyway as she deserves it

We are down to it again, folks. It is up to the voters to give us our new American Idol for 2007 - who is your choice - Blake Lewis or Jordin Sparks??
After tonight's solid performances by both contestants, I think and I also voted for, Jordin Sparks should win the competition hands down. But it is not up to me, it is up to the people who vote, be they adults who know how to make choices, or the teen and tweeny-boppers who vote for the best looking, or the best hair-do, or the best dressed, rarely do they vote for the one with the most talent or who is the best singer. Like Simon said tonight, this IS a singing contest, and he thought that Jordin won it all tonight.
I thought the song that won for the song-writing contest was a very lame song, but Jordin did a knock out job of singing it. I wish that they would let them sing three songs of their choice, so we could see if they learned anything over the past weeks about song choice.
I thought Blake was great in his choice of the Maroon 5 song, and his repeat performance of "You Give Love A Bad Name". He fell flat on his version of "This is my Now".
Jordin can sing "Broken Wing" a hundred times in a row and I would never get tired of it. Her version is every bit as good as Martina McBride's, and her Christina Aguilera song "Fighter" was really hot. Her version of "This is my Now" was far superior to Blake's, and if she wins this competition, it will because of that song.
Let's hope that the voters get it right. If Jordin doesn't win, then Fox has lost a viewer forever for American Idol.

For the first time since Season 2 I missed an episode, although after last week I don't care. I heard Jordin did better on the "Idol" song than Blake, and I really think she will be the new American Idol.
Although my favorite is out (Melinda), I'll watch the final tomorrow night just to see everyone come back and perform. That show is always pretty good.
As far as past Idol contestants did anyone see Clay Aiken on Dancing with the Stars? Actually pretty funny, he was in Jimmy's learn to dance segment.

I agreed with everything that Simon said last night, which is a shocker. I agree that AI is a singing competition, first and foremost, but you also need a good personality. Jordin has one, absolutely, but, as I've mentioned before, she seems a little fake to me. She's an amazing singer, though. Blake seems like a genuinely nice guy (heck, he brought his dad on stage before), and he's interesting. I'd love to see him win since he's so different from anything AI has seen before. I'd love to hear/see a beatboxing competition between him & Justin Timberlake!

Even before the show started, I was cringing about the song. The finale songs always suit the girls more than the boys. I like (and have) Kelly's & Carrie's finale songs...but when the guys sing them, they just don't seem right...I'm glad that the judges made comments on Blake's performance of the song, and I'm extra glad that Simon said that we should only judge Blake last night on his first 2 performances. For the sake of Blake's career, though, since "This Is My Now" would be his first single, I kind of hope Jordin would win and that Blake would not sign with 19 Entertainment...Kelly Clarkson even had to fight with her record label for her new album (I'm not sure if she's stil with 19 Entertainment or not). "This Is My Now" sounded good to me (I'm a cheeseball I guess), but it just is not a Blake song. "Do I Make You Proud" by Taylor Hicks is a cheesy song, too, but it doesn't bother me as much as Blake singing "This Is My Now". Poor kid.
dvdjunkie wrote:I thought Blake was great in his choice of the Maroon 5 song, and his repeat performance of "You Give Love A Bad Name". He fell flat on his version of "This is my Now".
Right when Ryan was saying that Blake would sing another Maroon 5 song, I was hoping that it would be "Harder to Breathe". I love the song "She Will Be Loved", but I (like Simon) didn't think that it was a good song choice for Blake. I had missed Bon Jovi night, and I thought that Blake did a great job with "You Give Love a Bad Name". At first I thought (and still think) that it was really weird (was he miming opening a window or something...and did he do that the first time he performed the song?), but, by the end, it was a satisfying performance.
dvdjunkie wrote:and her Christina Aguilera song "Fire" was really hot. Her version of "This is my Now" was far superior to Blake's, and if she wins this competition, it will because of that song.
The song is called "Fighter". I cringed when Ryan said what song Jordin would sing...I love that song...In my opinion it wasn't nearly as good as Christina Aguilera's version (which is amazing)...on its own merit, it was a good performance, but, as Randy has said for many seasons, it's hard not to compare the AI singer to Whitney/Mariah/Christina when singing their songs...
dvdjunkie wrote:Let's hope that the voters get it right. If Jordin doesn't win, then Fox has lost a viewer forever for American Idol.
I understand what you're saying (and Simon had even said that he wouldn't return next season if Sanjaya won), but it's not Fox's fault (unless the voting is rigged)...If you really want Jordin to win so badly that you won't watch again if she doesn't, then maybe you should have voted more for Jordin (there was a 4 hour window

). I'm not trying to be rude, just stating what I think.

Good Lord in Heaven! I just happened to tune into Fox, and I see Bette Midler is performing "Wind Beneath My Wings". I think, "Cool." I love Bette Midler, and all. However, I have to say, she sounded absolutely HORRIBLE! What in the world?! I can't believe how bad this sounds. Terrible.
Anyway, I could care less who wins this show. I haven't really even watched this season, except for the "Idol Gives Back" show. I guess if I had to choose one, or the other, it would be Blake Lewis. I think he has a good personality, has a great talent, and he's eye candy, to me. I also believe he's gay. I know, that's beside the point, and there will be many people who would argue it with me, but, I call them like I see them.
Anyway, back to the show.

Now here's some real talent. Taylor Hicks. I really like him. Carrie Underwood. EXTREMELY talented, awesome voice, and I think she's the most beautiful woman in the world. Seriously! Stunning!

Ah, I wish Blake would have won, but whatever. Jordin is a better singer, but she's soooooo uninteresting as a person (at least what we see of her) and Blake is just fun to watch!
I still firmly believe that Melinda would have beaten either of them to a pulp had she been in the final two.

Well, to me, the finale doesn't really make a difference. Both Jordin and Blake have great voices and I know I'll end up buying both their CDs (unless they go crappy like McPhee did). I'm just glad Melinda didn't win. Seriously, she's already been a backup singer and she's been in at least one musical (as far as I know). It would be like seeing Christina Aguilera auditioning. It doesn't seem very fair.
I also believe he's gay. I know, that's beside the point, and there will be many people who would argue it with me, but, I call them like I see them.
I thought that, too! But I kept it to myself 'cause I thought it was probably just hopeful wishing.
