That's a good idea TM2-Megatron, but statistically I have poor chances of getting a correct copy. Apparantly, only the first printings of both "Prowlers of the Everglades" and "The Secrets of Life" were correct and I'm guessing that the first printings would also have been the first packaged and among the first shipped, so any copies left at Disney should be from the incorrect source with color issues/fullscreen respectively. I'm thinking the only easy way to do this is for Disney to acknowledge their error and replace the discs for people who care about these issues. I mean, Warner Bros. does it all the time. Why can't Disney?
Defective Discs

I called BVHV customer service yesterday and a "technician" took down my info and explained to me what the problem was but they are not sending replacement disc out just yet. They did say that they are know of the problem and are looking into a solution but they haven't agreed to replace the disc yet but when (if) they do I would (or anyone who calls in and logs this complaint) automatically get the discs and a mailer to send the defective discs back.

Does ANYONE have a correct version of Vol. 1? It seems like a few of us (myself included) were able to get a good version of Vol. 4 through trial and error, or just plain dumb luck. However, I'd be curious to see if the same logic plays out with the color issue.
Here's something else I just thought of that I don't think anyone else has brought up thusfar. There's no indication that these are limited issue releases, correct? I mean, they're not numbered or anything. Theoretically, if they keep producing them, the current backstock of defective discs will dry up and BVHE will have to re-press new discs with (hopefully) the correct colors/aspect ratios (I mean, they wouldn't reproduce errors knowingly, right...right?). Maybe then we could all return our bad discs for the correct versions.
Just a thought...

As far as I have read from others on here, Isn't all of the pressings of Prowlers of the Deep bad? If not, I need to start searching for a good one.
Does Roy Disney know about all this?

Does anyone know whether or not Roy Disney is aware of these problems? After all, he championed the release of these films on dvd, and his pride in the project is obvious in his footage in all four volumes. I would think he would be saddened and upset at BVHE, first for mucking up the discs in the first place, and secondly for hesitating even a moment about offering replacements to correct the problems.
Anyone know how to contact him about this?

I just got off the phone with Walt Disney (Buena Vista) Home Entertainment Customer Service. I was looking to both put my name down for a "More Silly Symphonies" replacement and try to get some information from whomever I was able to speak with. Here's what I found out:
• "More Silly Symphonies" is being replaced. The discs are not ready yet, but when they are, people who have previously contacted WDHE will be contacted via telephone and told to be prepared to receive the replacement discs in the mail (they will send them first). In the package along with the discs will be a pre-paid envelope to return the defective discs. This is good news.
• No decision has currently been made on what they are doing with TLA v.1 in regards to the color issue on "Prowler of the Everglades." They are aware of the issue and the lady I spoke with was happy I brought it up. I told her I was pretty sure what the problem was, since when I swapped the red and blue cables in my component video set, the picture looked fine. I put my name in for a replacement if and when they come.
• Although I lucked out and got one of the copies of TLA v.4 with the correct aspect ratios, I asked if she knew anything about what was being done for those who didn't. She had all the information on it, as well, and said that no decision has been made as of yet. She said she was happy I got a good copy, but the more calls they get on it, the better.
Finally, I asked her about the fate of the Treasures line, referencing the conflicting information we've been getting from WDHE Customer Service and Leonard Maltin himself. She told me that the most up-to-date information they have is that the Treasures line WILL be continuing, although she had no information on what the titles would be or even when they would be coming out. When asked if Leonard Maltin was going to be involved with the continuation (citing the latest information we have about his believing the line to be canceled), she said that she did not know, but that she personally hoped so.
So, unfortunately, no press-stopping news, just some reinforcement of what we've already heard, as well as minor clarification on some items. I encourage all of you to call WDHE (800-723-4763) to either request your replacement discs (in the case of More Silly Symphonies), request that defective titles be added to the replacement program (in the case of the TLAs), or to show your support for both the Treasures line and Leonard Maltin.
*Sorry for the double post...I'm putting this in the Treasures and the TLAs thread

So, did the lemmings actually die? Or did they just look like they died? I first read about this years ago, and today I read the UD review, and I did some more research. No website I visited actually said that the lemmings really died in real life. Did they? Did any of them survive? That was just really mean of Disney to do, regardless...

I really enjoyed Creatures of the Wild, such risks were taken, more daring then Stevie Irwin, the doucmentaries had me on edge of the film being discovered by the lions/bears. Too bad they're considering closing Legacy, but I think Oswald deserves Disney Treasure then Legacy, as for Destino, it looks pretty cool yet it has that Fantasia appeal.

That's what lemmings do. Disney didn't coerce them to do anything. That's where the term "following like a lemming" comes from: to follow without thinking even if it means your death.

I've done my research on the subject- lemmings don't even live where they filmed that part. But, I just wanted to know if all the lemmings they filmed actually died.

Actually it's a complete myth, lemmings don't behave like that at all. The entire footage in the film was set up, the lemming leaps were faked.
And rest assured blackcauldron85, the lemmings were never harmed. Films are strictly monitored to ensure their production causes no harm to animals.

So, Ichabod, when I read people's comments on seeing the "dead bodies" floating in the river (I won't watch it until I know that they're not dead- dead things freak me out), they just thought that they were seeing dead lemmings, but they were really fine? If so, did Disney give the lemmings back to the Inuit kids they bought them from?

I'm sure they did - they're good guys after all.

Yeah, NOW they are, but in the 1950s, the film industry hadn't fully signed on to being monitored by the American Humane Association, certainly not for nature documentaries.

Nobody's really stated whether the lemmings actually died or not during the filming, and it's not actually shown onscreen. It's possible some may have died.

I'm pretty sure they've all died by now. If dying animals gross somebody out, they shouldn't watch any of the TLAs. Most of them include scenes in which animals actually get killed.

I know that the lemmings NOW have since died, but I meant died during the filming of them jumping. Sometimes watching nature documentaries on TV gross me out, so thanks for the warning, Billy Moon!
