It's shocking enough to see trailers back, but for it to include TV and radio spots is pleasantly astounding. I hope that ends up being true. I admit I'm a little worried about an art gallery not being mentioned, but it's possible this list isn't complete. Thanks for posting, ichabod!

Thanks for the update Ichabod, if this is all true it looks like 101 Dalmatians could be the best Platinum Edition we've seen in a while.

This is looking like a very promising release. I am very excited for the Cruella De Vil: Drawn to be Bad feature. Marc Davis is my favorite Disney animator. I'm still awed about how he made Cruella move in that huge coat, frame by frame, and keeping it all so perfect at the same time. This looks like it is going to be one of the best PE in a very long time.

I don't see what the fuss is about, really. Disney didn't include a matted "widescreen" edition of Peter Pan in addition to the original 1.37:1 animated ratio, and for good reason. As far as the way it (101 Dalmatians) was animated in the 1.37:1 ratio, as the animators intended (and which should have been the case for The Jungle Book).
And they should've dropped the full-screen versions of Lady and the Tramp and Sleeping Beauty -- they were specifically animated for the 2.55:1 and 2.35:1 ratios, respectively.

In
Lady and the Tramp's case, it would've made sense to include the alternative 1.37:1-animated version that is rarely seen (save for a few clips in the documentary).

They were shown in cinemas cropped to approximately 1,75:1. Peter Pan wasn't. They
should have included both ratios of The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians.

Well interestingly enough, HMV is reporting the 101 dalmatians DVD will be 1.78:1 widescreen.
If true, this would probably be better and give more "Breathing space" that the 1.66:1 of Jungle Book.

It also appear a double pack with the sequel will be available in the UK as per usual.

Actually, Jungle Book was matted to 1.75:1, so if 101 Dalmatians is being matted to 1.78:1 it's actually being cropped more, not less. 1.66:1 would be a good compromise, though. It avoids claustrophobia on the top and bottom but still masks empty space. I don't know why Disney didn't think of this for Robin Hood and Jungle Book.

That's what I meant. I must have gone temporarily insane and read 1.78:1 as 1.66:1!
My brain aches.

I like that Disney is finally releasing there animated classics in the right ratio. Full Screen you are missing so much, Widescreen you get the whole picture and how it was meant to be seen.
I don't know why everyone is complaining about the recent releases of Robin Hood, The Jungle Book, and next year release of The Aristocats. What they should be complaining about is the lack of special features, not ratio format.

Well, see, you're not "missing so much" when it's fullscreen as opposed to matted widescreen, which "The Jungle Book", "Robin Hood", "101 Dalmatians" would be. You may be seeing what the director intended, but you're certainly not seeing more.

With widescreen you might not get more of the picture, but widescreen makes everythig bigger so you can see everything.
People have been complaining about Robin Hood and The Jungle Book, but if you look at both of the comparisons, Wisescreen you can see the characters clearly instead of Full Screen you can't and have a hard time reading things.

You should get a larger TV set, or better still, a projector...

hahaha go read Robin Hood Most Wanted Edition Review on here and you can see what I am talking about.
Are we getting Widescreen with this release? Because the press release, and disney.com is saying it's full screen. this link says otherwise.

That's the Region 2 edition. Don't worry; the Region 1 version will still be presented in full screen, because that's the aspect ratio it was filmed in.

If the UK is getting Widescreen then we should too, not get stuck with Full Screen, it's only fair.

Aren't you the same person who wanted to end the complaining about aspect ratio issues of the 60's and 70's DACs?
You could always import the R2 or just zoom in on the R1 to create your own matted widescreen transfer. When they release matted widescreen of the same titles, those who want open matte do not have that same option as you can't make the missing information appear if it isn't encoded on the disc.

IMO, that's a really superficial way to determine the correct aspect ratio. The matted only looks like a "bigger" picture, with larger elements, in those comparison pics because both are shown as having the same height (as they would appear on a WS tv) If both were presented as having the same width (as they would appear on a standard TV) the fullscreen picture would look "bigger" and the elements would be the same size.
When the picture and it's elements both look "bigger" in comparaison pics based on the same display size, it is actually usually an indication that the ratio is wrong.
For example, in the cropped fullscreen Lady And The Tramp, Lady, Tramp, Jock, Trusty, etc sure do look "bigger" on a fullscreen display - when they aren't being cropped off the sides of the screen!

I don't see why it matters that it's going to be widescreen or not. If R2 gets widescreen, mostly likely R1 would get the same, plus 101 isn't due to be released until March, so thats 4 months away. Press Releases are natorious for changing quite frequently before the DVD is due to come out.
