This means that Elemental which grossed less than $500 million worldwide was not a success like Disney and the industry tried to portrayed it was.
And according to one source, due to the profit-sharing model at Disney/Pixar, a movie has to cross $600 million to be considered profitable for Pixar, and it’s not seen as a true hit until that coveted $1 billion mark.

I really hope Elio can do $600M next June to save its image and be a hit to stop Pixar original films from falling.

And while Elemental may not have made profit, it didn’t lose any either, hence why it broke even.
