That's quite the tall order. We'll see if that ends up being the case.
Soul' writer Kemp Powers teases an 'unpredictable' plot: 'People feel like, because they've seen all the Pixar movies, they know all the things that are gonna happen. I chuckle to myself knowing how wrong they all are!'

A song from Soul premiered on Dancing with the Stars named "It's All Right" sung by Jon Batiste. You can listen to it,
here. That must be the song they're planning to push for the Oscars. They did the same with Frozen II and "Into the Unknown" last year. The song's pretty middle-of-the-road and unmemorable. Then again, the Academy nominated Randy Newman's "I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away" last year, so who knows? It might stand a chance.

That's a preexisting song, not an original song from the film:

Thanks for letting us know! It's weird it's a cover since at the D23 Expo they said Jon Batiste would be writing original songs for the film. It's also strange Disney chose to showcase a rendition instead one of the original songs like "Parting Ways" by Cody Chesnutt which was heard in the trailer.

I liked both versions of the song. It's not the most exciting song, but it's nice. I am excited to hear the soundtrack.

I wish they had previewed one of the original songs, but perhaps they thought it was too soon for that. That cover is not bad, but I prefer the original.

PHOTOS: NEW “Soul” Mr. Mittens Cat Mug Arrives at Walt Disney World
https://wdwnt.com/?p=339417
Remember when Mittens from Bolt or American Dog was named Mr. Mittens?!
Interesting that the cat
will also appear in ghost form in the film. And why have they chosen the same name as the cat in
Bolt? Is Mittens a very common name for cats in the US?
farerb wrote:Side note: with so few movies released this year and if the film turns out to be good, it might have a chance to be nominated for Best Picture.
It could be, I've seen that some are predicting it could be a contender. Well, the Academy has extended the eligibility period this year and has allowed films that have premiered on streaming or VOD to be eligible for awards so that more movies can compete, but I guess there'll still be fewer movies than other years.
Soul will premiere at the Rome Film Festival in a couple of weeks, so we'll soon have reviews or early reactions and we'll be able to get an idea of its chances.

I think so. Cats with different-colored paws than the rest of their fur I'm sure get named Mittens or Sox/Socks or Sneakers, etc. (Bill + Hillary Clinton had a cat named Socks...)...

Oh, OK, now I get it. I didn't understand what mittens had to do with cats. Come to think of it, I know someone here in Spain who has a dog named "Calcetines" (socks), so maybe names like those for cats or dogs are common here too.
By the way, here's a new Chinese poster released on occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival:

Yes, that's strange. Does it mean
the cat also died? Is that why either 22 or Joe are able to enter his body?

It's a cliché name for a cat along with Whiskers and Fluffy. Those names are also old-fashioned. People give their pets human names nowadays. In any case, they should have found something more distinct for the character. If not for any other reason, to avoid confusion with the other Disney cat of the same name. I'm surprised Disney's marketing department didn't make them change it. By the way, Mr. Mittens has one of the most unappealing designs of a cat I've ever seen in animation. The character design in this film is so poor, they couldn't even make the cat look cute!
I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but there's a character called Moonwind in the film. He looks like a kooky old mentor type of character.

I hadn't thought about that. I guess it's possible
the cat will die too. However, I've watched the last trailer again and it seems the cat's still alive when Joe and 22 fall off the tunnel and go to Earth. Maybe what happens is that the soul of either 22 or Joe is exchanged with the cat's soul when it touches the animal's body and Mr. Mittens' soul goes up to the Great Before.

I agree they should've given the cat another name that hadn't been used by Disney before, and I don't like the design much either.

I don't think it had been posted before. He does look like a kooky old mentor, and also a bit hippie. Apparently, the character will also appear in human form in the film:

The next James Bond film,
No Time to Die, which was going to open the same day as
Soul,
has been delayed to Easter 2021. We'll see if
Soul keeps its release date or goes to Disney Plus.

Regal Cinemas have been shut down in the US and UK because of Bond so I'm guessing that's going to play a part in Disney's decision. TBH I'll be very surprised if Soul is released in theaters this November.

I had read the headline of that piece of news, but not the news itself. It seems there has been an update and they now say they're just considering closing the theaters at the moment, but haven't reached a final decision. But they're the second largest chain in the US, so you're right; if they close, it'll probably make Disney's decision of skipping theaters easier.

Yes, there were also posters for
Raya and the Last Dragon (which I
posted in that film's thread), Marvel's
Black Widow and Fox's
Free Guy. I think those were all.

That's it? Why am I not surprised, given the virus? But what about "West Side Story"?

West Side Story has been postponed an entire year and now will open on December 2021. Yes, there are few movies expected to be released in the next few months due to the virus.

I just revealed my friends named their cat Mittens. They did it within the last decade!
