(Who knew Meryl Streep could sing so well??)
Mamma Mia! was not a good representation of Meryl's vocal chops. Those are pop songs and Meryl is no pop singer. She has a huge range and Into The Woods is the perfect project to show this off. She's easily the most inspired casting choice in my opinion. So looking forward to this.

^I agree.

Thankfully, I just got a new job, so now I can see this and Big Hero 6 in theaters. :D Before, I was probably going to wait until they were released on DVD/Blu-Ray. I won't see them in the first weeks though, because the crowds will be in full force.

Does anyone have links to No One is Alone and Any Moment/Moments in the Woods? Those are my most anticipated songs but I can't seem to get the previews to work on UK iTunes.

The preview clips were taken down per Disney's request.

EDIT: And someone said Playbill's request.

You're welcome Sequel! I'm sure the preview samples will come back (and to American sites like Amazon, too).

Hm...maybe.

Honestly... This is so stupid...

I would understand if the overall response to the clips were negative, but why take them down when people are responding positively to them?
They should take advantage of the word of mouth...

In other news, I just got done watching the musical on iTunes. I've never seen it before.
Nothing impressive or stand out in the songs department, with the exception of "Stay With me".
The storyline is really good, however, I can finally see why people are worried about Disney toning it down.

Really? No others?

It's not the typical Broadway musical with power ballad after dance number after power ballad, but the songs are very complex and layered, both lyrically and musically, while seeming simple at the surface. That's the genius of Sondheim. It's surprisingly challenging to navigate through a Sondheim score, so any actor who does so successfully deserves respect.

I agree that it's silly to track down everyone on tumblr who posted the songs, but that's Disney for you

When I was young I only found some of the Into the Woods songs good, but being older I appreciate much more of them now. My favorite song was always "Stay With Me", and then "Prologue", "Ever After", "Finale: Children Will Listen" and Cinderella's songs except "On the Steps of the Palace" and "No One is Alone". I know I know, how can I not like "No One is Alone", it's not that I don't like it, it has great lyrics, I just don't think it has much melody or a melody I like.

taei, I really hope you saw the Original Broadway Cast Into the Woods instead of one of the inferior outside in a park Into the Woods revivals. The original one is so much better it would help you see how good the material really is.

I saw the trailer in the middle of Amercian Horror Story last night. Looks sooo good.

"Last Midnight" and "No One Is Alone" are still my favorites at the moment (although the baker's voice from the OBC is annoying on the second one). Honestly, I don't think I'd care much about this if Meryl Streep weren't involved, since the Witch seems like the best character.

The original Broadway cast is definitely worth watching, Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason are the standouts of course. A great actress can really elevate the baker's wife in particular. It's a role that requires great comedic timing and a lot of nuanced emotion. Hopefully Emily Blunt can pull it off (I think she can).

One thing you don't get from the trailers is the more humorous elements. I hope it's not too toned down because it can be VERY funny.

Emily was definitely cast for her comedic chops. Vocally she's not amazing (not bad either). I think she will really bring great comedic timing to the role.

I rented the one available on Netflix. I don't know if that's the park one or not.

Is Bernadette Peters the witch? If so, I think that's the original.

I'm pretty sure the one on Netflix is the one with Bernadette Peters.

Yeah, Meryl was pretty awesome in that clip. I can't wait for this film (and the soundtrack, too)!

Hey Old Fish Tale, have you seen the original Broadway cast of Into the Woods? Is the setpfamily your favorite part of that, too? Whether they are or aren't, how do you feel about them? And then in comparison to Disney's animated Cinderella version of them? And then, what do you think of them from all we can tell about them from this upcoming Disney film? I love their costumes!
