I figured...its so pointless, especially when you consider how westernized Japan is already...

I don't get it. I'm not speaking about unprincess, but people in general. People have been complaining that in Disney, there's no POC, diversity etc. and how there is no black, asian, hispanic etc. people and how Frozen was whitewashing etc. And when Disney is finally making a diverse cast, the first thing people do? Complain that it's a mixed cast.

I think people are complaining over the name. "San Fransokyo"? Really?
And how do people even know if the main characters aren't all Asian living in a diverse city? We haven't seen any concept arts...?

the original material had an all Asian cast, set in Japan. So why change that?
its like with PATF. They want to make a movie with a black princess. Great! so they set it in the USA. A country that has no royalty. Then they have to come up with a convoluted story that brings a prince from a completely different country to America.
Wouldnt it have been easier to just set the movie in Africa, which does have an equivalent of a royal structure's King, tribe chiefs(like Pocahontas)? Of course if you do that, the whole cast has to be black...oops.
Look Im not one of these Tumblr whiners. I have no probem with what they did with Frozen. But sometimes I do wonder about these things...
and no, I dont think Disney is RACIST OMG! its all about money for them...

Japan is far from westernised. Their tradition in ingrained into their language and daily life more so than China, Vietnam, Indonesia (imo).
Having said that, the comics were never actually Japanese, but a western perspective of Japan, which sort of make their questionable changes more 'excusable'.

I'm a Japanese guy and I like this decision. You know why? cuz it's very hard to accurately portrait Japan.
Even Cars 2 was far away from what Japan is actually like.
So instead of inaccurately portraying Japan, I would much prefer them to state that it's a westernized version of Japan.

heh, youre right, even if they did set it in Japan, theyd probably get stuff wrong anyway or fill it with "cliches".

I'm curious to see if any of the human characters have an anime influenced style to them.

I kind of like the anime feel this movie will have and all with it's influence.
Maybe should be Ghibli-esque

Disney has been keeping this one under the wraps quite nicely, but I don't think we had a whole lot of information about Wreck-It Ralph at this point either. Very interested in seeing how this movie turns out. It's certainly something different from the studio.

The folks at Walt Disney Animation Studios are just as excited to talk about Disney’s upcoming animated film Big Hero 6 as we are, which makes us even more excited.
Yesterday the head of animation for Frozen [Lino DiSalvo] tweeted that the scene breakdown process for Big Hero 6 was underway:
"I Love my job !! we're in the process of breaking down a scene with our acting coach @WarnerLoughlin for Big Hero 6" #TruthInEmotion

Those images above the man are from the Marvel comics, so they won't be representative of the Disney adaption

The comics Don Hall were presenting are the 5 issue 2008 mini-series, which the film is based on. Here is the original Marvel comic from 1998:

Notice Sunfire & Silver Samurai from X-Men.

Disney should be happy with this - they can go back to appealing to their favourite demographic - boys.
I'll give this a shot. Might get the boyfriend to come with me as it's a superhero film and he's pretty impressed with what Disney have done with Marvel. I'm still of the opinion that Superhero films have been overdone and overdosed on.
2D comic style would have been perfect for this as mentioned earlier. But a stylized CGI could also give the film a distinctive look that adds to the feel. I don't want this to look like Tangled or Frozen.
It's very likely to be compared to the Incredibles. So Disney really need to pull something spectacular out of their butts. I wonder if Disney can really give something that is of Marvel origin a 'disney feel'.
So far, not hyped for this (but then I wasn't for Wreck it Ralph and that worked). I will likely change my opinion when a teaser appears.

God yes, Im so sick of them! they all look alike to me these days.
wouldnt it be interesting if this movie only does WIR numbers & doesnt reach the blockbuster levels of Frozen? Would love to see if the Disney execs stubbornly continue to cling to their "only boys matter" belief...
