And why not? This movie was in development for almost 10 years, and they had to create all kinds of software and such for it (like her hair, for instance).

If a movie like Megamind, which was cranked out in under a year and half I believe, can have a budget of $130 million, I think it's completely feasible that Tangled cost $260 million. Not to mention the cost of marketing.

And, assuming it is 260, I think it will have no problem making it back with the way it's pulling in money already.

I thought it was technically in production since 2004? Anyways, I don't want to be all Mr. Negative or anything, but tell that- the part about raking in the big bucks- to the movie's soon-to-be competition. I mean, Dawn Treader, Tron: Legacy and Yogi Bear.....

All three movies that will somehow have to share 3D screens with Tangled. I am HONESTLY praying to the Heavens that Tangled actually makes back its budget in no time. Because this is one movie I don't want to see fail financially.

Well, it managed to do extremely well against Harry Potter, much to a lot of our surprises. I thought it would be a disaster, releasing it five days after Harry, but it worked out in the end.

Meanwhile, there is nothing coming out next week, so Tangled should hold up well on its second weekend. And considering Prince Caspian didn't exactly light up the box-office, Narnia isn't a guaranteed success anymore. Here's hoping Tron: Legacy and Tangled destroy Yogi Bear.

I believe that the price tag ended up being around the $140 million mark, and the worldwide marketing budget being a good hundred million more. Some sources (read: Los Angeles Times) seemed to have basically added the two parts together.

I like the look of the end credits; they remind me very much of Ronald Searle's artwork.

wafflenugget, thanks for posting the end credits! They're very sweet–I'm especially fond of the one where she's painting and he's just looking over her shoulder. (And any more of Rapunzel singing with the thugs makes me happy.)

Some of Kim's early sketches for Flynn remind me of Joseph Fiennes, for some reason–perhaps I'm watching too many Elizabethan films.

I went to see the film and I absolutely loved it.
The music is great, the story is sincere. I laughed and cried.

3d animation is still not my favorite style, some movements seem weird and unnatural. The way the eyes move feels unnatural to me and Rapunzels eyes are too big. Just a little bit smaller would have been perfect. 3d does have advantages as well, like the incredible detail of the forest and her hair.

I loved the sincerity of the characters, the story and the songs. And the jokes were well timed and added something.
So luckily no jokes during beautiful moments.

Also, I didn't really like the voice over at the beginning.
I don't remember exactly what he said, but it was something like:
"Well, now you probably expect this and that......but nope, that's not the case...etc". It felt like they were ashamed to present it as the opening of a beautiful story telling. I immediately thought: "Well, I don't expect anything, why are you not just telling me the story? That's what I'm here for. Stop this popular nonsense.

Other than that, a wonderful film with it's heart in the right place.
I would love to watch it again.
It did feel like a Disney classic.

This movie soooooo needs to be named 'Rapunzel' again once it leaves theaters, cause that's what it is, it's Disney's Rapunzel, that's what it needs to be remembered, there's nothing tangled on it, the name doesn't fit at all now we've seen it.

I agree. I don't mind the title as much I used to, but the film i came out of was Rapunzel. It really felt like it should have been called Rapunzel. Not just because of the fairy tale quality and somewhat serious edge to the whole thing, but (in spite of Flynn being the narrator) it is really Rapunzel's story. She is the main focus. We follow her on her journey and see the world through her eyes.

I would, but even if I'd love to see it in english, I live in a spanish speaking country, so I mostly watch this movies in spanish. It is called 'Enredados' (Tangled) here

Even if the Dutch release had a spanish language track, It would be the Spain version, not the Latin American which I would need. Yo can send me a Slip cover though

Does it have english track(with english subtitles for hearing impaiered)?

is it region free so I can play it on mine?

it has an English language track yes and it has English language subtitles for sure. I don't know about the region though. I won't be able to tell you until I have it in my hands.

I REALLY enjoyed this movie!

Normally I see each new DAC and Pixar film on opening day, but I was out of town and driving back home for the Thanksgiving holidays on opening day, and since I had already missed opening day, I decided to wait for an uncrowded weekday screening rather than attend a packed one over the weekend with more risk of being distracted by cell phones, loud children, etc.

This worked out perfectly as at my AM screening yesterday, there were only a few other people in the theatre and they were all quiet and well behaved, making it very easy for me to immerse myself in the world of the movie with no distractions.

Here are a few thoughts after one viewing:

I enjoyed the depth of the characters and the emotional journey the film took me on. I was particularly touched by the emotion of Rapunzel's parents towards losing, and ultimately finding, their daughter, and also Eugene's willingness to sacrifice himself in order to free Rapunzel.

The film has much more heart than the trailers would indicate, as is often the case. I find it ironic that the marketeers thought they were making the film MORE appealing by downplaying the heart and musicality of the film, when those things are it's biggest appeal to me (and I'm a "male"!)

I enjoyed the animal sidekicks and the humor was thankfully not overdone or of the "Dreamworks cynical pop-culture reference" variety, as others have already pointed out.

The songs were all enjoyable although after one viewing and listen none screamed out "instant classic" to me in a "Colors of the Wind", "Beauty and the Beast", "Be Our Guest", or "Under the Sea" sort of way. I'm sure they will stick in my head more after repeated viewings, which is usually the case.

The 3-D was not a distraction but as is often the case after a few scenes I got so into the story that I forgot I was watching the 3-D. So I think I would have enjoyed it just as much in 2-D.

I liked the film enough to go back at least another 2 times before it leaves theatres, (which is what I usually do for DACs and MOST Pixar films, and I'll catch it in 2-D at least one of those times.

As of now, Tangled is my favorite animated film of 2010, edging out How To Train Your Dragon, which for my taste is Dreamworks' finest moment. I would also say Tangled is my favorite of ALL the new-release films I've seen in 2010, animated or otherwise.

I am very glad to see this doing well at the box office and even holding up well as a "Potterswatter"

Hopefully this box office success will lead to more animated musicals and yes, more fairytales such as The Snow Queen.

PS. I also liked the reference to the film being the 50th DAC at the beginning of the movie. 50 films without a dud in the bunch (IMO) is an amazing run!
