Yeah, I agree, I was just commenting on the earliest productions, namely Snow White and Pinocchio. I guess even Fantasia has a bit of a more subtle palette, but some segments are a bit more saturated.

(they are sold seperately, not in a package of 4 discs, but 2 packages of 2 discs each)
it's 64 euros!!!!!!! ($85)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bless amazon that i tool the 4 disc bluray set for only 21 euros!! (less than 1/3 of the regular price in Greece!!!)
can't understand these high prices here! it's outrageous!
I am from Greece and I have bought the "Fantasia".
It's not so much money for a Blu-ray release I think... 30 Euros
and it's Combo Pack with DVD.
Available for a very limited time, only 4 months!
I asked a seller for the price and told me that the normal price is 25 Euros... the new Φ.Π.Α. is high 20-25% higher!!!
The only reason I bought it from here is for the Greek language and subtitles and will cost me more to buy it from the internet!

DOES ANYONE THINK I should hold off if a better version of either movie is going to come out soon because this current version is dissapearing soon?
I'd say just go for it. Even if the films are re-released separately, I doubt that they'd add anything new. Most of the excellent bonus features from the Anthology are ported over, only they're appearing in the "Virtual Vault" (ultimately a bit stupid since they're all SD and could fit on the respective discs anyhow, especially since the
Fantasia ones were reasonably short).
So basically, in any case, get it for the restoration and the new features. If you have the Fantasia Anthology, though, then keep that too.

I believe that fact is something that is well documented; I've heard it mentioned various times on the board and elsewhere, and the palette of his earliest features seem to back it up.
I thought this only applied to Snow White. (Since it was his first feature and wasn't sure how audiences would react to that for an extended length of time.) I certainly don't think he intended this for every animated film up until his death.
I don't think he meant it for EVERY movie either, but if you look at "Snow White" and "Pinocchio" (even "Bambi" to an extent) they all have more subdued color palettes. "Dumbo" is really the first movie they did that was really bold and bright, probably to reflect the contemporary circus setting. To me it seems pretty logical that the first few films could have followed this school of thought until they got more daring.

So, was anything of particular value left off the new release from the Anthology set?

Our review for the set should be up in a week because I intend on making this the most thorough review for the set online. I'll be writing about the different versions and edits of the films, every single feature that's in the Virtual Vault, and exactly what was left off (though jpanimation's beaten me to the punch

). So while I'm sorry the review's so late, I promise it'll be worth it.
Sorry about that but it doesn't really matter, since UD reviews on DAC releases are always worth a read. BTW, feel free to use any pictures or comparisons I post (this goes for any thread on any movie), especially if it saves you time.

Well, if you buy the DVD release or don't have an internet equipped player, then everything

I have the Fantasia Anthology, but still feel compelled to get this.
However, unlike other Platinum/Diamond additions, I haven't rushed out to buy it. I'll wait till I buy a bunch of movies at the same time through the DMC, so I can capitalize as much as possible on the 60% off, maybe wait for a free shipping deal.

haralambos I said BOTH movies (Fantasia bluray & DVD combo + Fantasia 2000 Bluray & DVD combo) are 64 euros (32 +32)! Or as you say it, 60 euros (30+30).
while in amazon the combo back for BOTH Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 is 1/3 of this price!

I'm so disappointed. We had some unexpected bills arise, so even with the $10 coupon I figured buying this was out of the question for now. But Rey knew the coupon expired today and knew how much I wanted it, so he insisted I take advantage of it. So at 10:00 tonight we found ourselves at Wal-mart, and guess what? They didn't even have the set there. And when I asked I was told
they didn't even stock them!
We went to Target directly across the street, where the set was $34.99 (I had been expecting the $27.99 sale price but that must have ended yesterday). I said screw them and walked out without it.

I'm sorry to hear that you weren't able to get your copy yet, but I am not surprised that you had trouble at Walmart. From what I've seen on the board and from my own experience, the store is becoming notorious for their inability to stock and/or effectively sell Blu-ray/DVD releases.
My first, and last, experience with Walmart on a release day was for BATB, and I won't be going back. I'd already got my Fantasia combo pack from Toys R' Us, but when I was at Walmart on Sunday for other items, I took a look around the mess that was the video section (stuff thrown all over the shelves) and there wasn't a Blu-ray case version of the film to be found! Same thing happened when I went for BATB, but I learned my lesson that night.

But then again, WalMart sucks because it's evil and should be boycotted as such. But we all know that.

I find that it helps to check the Wal-Mart website first. The products are usually labled as either being available in the store, available only online and to check your store for availability. I know the last few products I've bought from Wal-Mart were only sold online, which is kind of a bummer. The last time I looked at the Fantasia/2000 Blu-ray set, it was labled as possibly being in the store, so you technically have to go to the store just to see if it's available (which is rather dumb if you ask me).

Honestly, that doesn't make the image any better.
Either way, its only the eyes, the whole scene in fact is very dark!

How much does Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 cost at Walmart? I went to Walmart but they only had the DVD for $22.96. I never seen Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 because they were OOP before and I'm trying to decide if I should buy it.

Same thing happened with me but with Toy's R US. I was very much debating if I should just get it for $27.00 with the $10 coupon, but decided against it. Guess I'm hoping for a semi-soon re-release!
(I finally found a Pinocchio blu ray for only $22.99 at Best Buy, so I am content =)).
