I personally enjoy not having to switch discs just to watch the bonus features, especially when there's not tons of material on the bonus disc. It was worth it for Sleeping Beauty, but not so much for Pinocchio, Snow White, Up and Beauty and the Beast.

I'm sure it will. Perhaps, after the release of the box-set, but surely in time for Christmas.

I know everyone wants to defend Disney here but that excuse is pathetic.

Only Hercules, Mulan, Treasure Planet and Atlantis of catalogue Disney are longer than The Lion King. Might as well start the "it's okay that all the package features are on one disc because they're not really that long and no one cares about them" or "it's so great they've given us Herc, Hunch, Tarzan and TENG on one disc so we can expand our Disney collections faster".

I'm not defending Disney, but the fact is that they can fit a lot of material on a single 50 GB Blu-ray, and technically there's no need to let a single, hour and a half movie have a Blu-ray all by itself. There are many examples of great looking Blu-rays that are three or even four hours in length, so you could even fit in several bonus features in HD on the same disc. Not to mention stuff in SD, that takes even less space. The Thin Red Line Blu-ray by Criterion has a 170 minutes movie, along with many bonus features also in HD on a single BD 50. So by that standard, The Lion King could have three and a half hours worth of HD bonus material without letting the quality suffer, if you don't go into the fact that it needs seamless branching for the Special Edition.
Also, we haven't seen a single press release, have we? How do we even know it's true?

...did you not explore the second discs for "Snow White" and "Beauty and the Beast"? There were craploads of special features on their seconds discs.

^I did, but I felt they could still have fit onto the first disc. I appreciate the presentation of Hyperion Studios probably took a lot of space, but if were all pasted together as one documentary, it was less impressive.

And BatB seemed less substantial than Sleeping Beauty to me. I just looked at the blu-ray.com review of BatB and it shows 157 minutes under Beyond Beauty... I wonder if some content was cut out for the aussie release

I thought it was the worst movie I've ever seen which is saying something as I have seen such films as Cinderella 2 and Freddy Got Fingered.

I liked 1 1/2.

I was expecting a good interactive special feature like the 'Hyperion Studios' or the 'Beyond Beauty' ones but, right now, I don't know what to expect...

I like it.

meanwhile, I still think there will be some jumbo-sized interactive feature. Even 1-disc Bambi has that.

I hope they at least feature "Disney Second Screen" as well as another interactive behind-the-scenes experience...

I haven't read all of the previous 17 pages... well, actually, none of them... so I'm just going to ask a question that undoubtely has been answered already, hoping somebody will be helpful enough to reply:

What does the dvd-edition look like, bonus feature-wise? Don't spare me; be honest.

While none of the bonus features for either the blu-ray or dvd editions have actually been announced, I think it's safe to assume that the dvd edition will be pretty pathetic. Hopefully the blu ray has some sort of big documentary-type bonus, but I doubt it will be on the dvd. Most likely, the dvd will get your basic music video, game... maybe an audio commentary.

^the commentary's an if. I think it's safe to assume that the "classic dvd features" will be bd exclusive as will the most significant new additions like Second screen, or the documentary-which'll probably be called something like "The Circle of Life: Making 'The Lion King'".

The last Beauty and the Beast dvd was amazing, but the one for Bambi was pathetic. With Disney, no-one can tell.

They can very easily fit both versions of the movie, all of the bonus features from the DVD and a few more on one disc.

There are maybe 10 minutes total of footage that is different between the theatrical release and the Special Edition and with Blu-ray they can very easily use seemless branching for those specific scenes. Which means there will be about 1:40 of movie on the disc, plus the DVD features that will likely be in standard definition, taking up very little space. Should leave another hour or so for HD bonus features.

Look at the extended release of Avatar. It's got three versions of the film on one disc and the video quality is amazing. 2:42minutes + 8 minutes of additional footage for the second version and another 16 minutes of additional footage for the third version. That's over three hours of HD material on one Blu-ray. There is no doubt in my mind that they can fit a very nice package of extras on one disc for The Lion King.
