So...... what do you suppose the odds are of the cut scenes from the final movie being on the DVD are?

First off, Alex, I am officially jealous!!! But Daddy, I want to see the deleted scene! (<3 Veruca Salt...)

Second off, I agree- the ad did mention "scenes"...I'm more and more doubtful about the "controversial" scenes being included, but I would be so happy if they were.

To be clear, he only showed us an example of the one 9 minute long scene because of the fact that they found pencil animation for it. He didn't mention other scenes, but that doesn't mean there won't be more deleted scenes on the DVD. Also, perhaps this is the one that his production studio worked on, but its possible that others made more scenes.

It's interesting you mention that Disney often edits down the supplements commissioned and delivered to them GS. I guess its another example of the contempt that they show for their audience.

Really, I would have thought that if somebody was interested enough to want to view a behind the scene's item, they would want to view it all. Most 4-10 year olds aren't even going to bother.

We do sneer at some of the chosen supplements on Disney discs, such as "all-new" music videos, and "pointless" set-top games (and I sneer just as much as the rest of them) but they do give something for younger fans to enjoy without having to watch a 30minute making of. There should be room for both, for both audiences.

The examples that Les Perkins gave of bonus features being edited down were both from Mary Poppins. He made a featurette "A Musical Journey" with Richard Sherman as well as "The Red Carpet." The first was edited down because some of the information was repeated in the making of feature. The second was shortened for the 45th Anniversary Edition to make room for the new Broadway features. So I don't think it's that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment wants to give you less of what they have, they just don't like to repeat information or they feel the need to accommodate for what they feel is more important.

I haven't been on the boards for a bit, but I take it the release date is still unknown for the Black Cauldron?

Correct, we have no recent updates on this film.

According to the story on the front page, the release date for this will be June 2010! Hopefully by then Disney will also be releasing non-platinums/diamonds on Blu-ray!!

I wonder what delayed it in the first place (beyond the obvious "Let's give it an Anniversary banner!" reason).

Hopefully more special features are being made beyond that 10-minute "Fairfolk" Deleted Scenes featurette, new game, and the existing gallery, trailer, "Trick or Treat" cartoon, and Quest for the Black Cauldron Game. Even if it's just a 10-minute talking head piece or some old EPK interviews. I'm not holding my breath for the deleted animation anymore.

Is anyone optimistic that the delay has to do with them scouring the archives for bonus material? Anyone? Bueller?

I know I probably should, but I'm not giving up hope yet. They'll have to release those controversial scenes sooner or later.

Let us not hope, for it is better to have low expectations and be surprised than have high expectations and be disappointed.

I guess we have learned that sometimes, or a lot of the time, Disney can be a total cheapskate. And how do we know the cut scenes haven't been destroyed or are being kept in the deepest reaches of the Vault?

Somehow, I'm beginning to lose faith with them by acting like some of their movies don't even exist, and by getting rid of the classics' merchandise to make room for the crappy movies, such as "that guinea pig" movie, and giving us all the old bonuses found on the new editions of movies, without much new. Need I remind you of SOME non-platinum re-releases?

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say I've "lost faith". Disney's done some surprising things on home video -- some obscure titles like Family Band have bonus features, and Disney has released bells-and-whistles versions of certain films I never would have expected...we can't dance in the streets when Disney releases the True Life Adventures and Victory Through Air Power with great bonus features, then act as if the company is going to hell in a handbasket because Oliver and Co. and Pete's Dragon don't receive the same treatment. We can't have it all, although Disney must know we'd buy it if we could.

This probably isn't much, but I found it in a French forum that a friend of mine linked me to. Now, I am still hoping to see the deleted scenes.

I approve of that cover. Hope it'll be somewhat like that for the American version.

DELETED SCENES!!!!

Wow! That's pretty cool - The Black Cauldron is still getting a special edition. Somehow I imagined this would disappear from all the schedules. I really like the cover art, though why must they call it "The Ultimate Quest Edition". It's better than "Mystery in the Mist", but still... come on. What's wrong with just special edition. Deleted scenes are always good, but the transfer is more important - I hope they improved it. It needs improvement... badly.
