Lasseter said on the red carpet on MTV that
Let it Go changed the drive of the movie and Elsa's character completely from the original intention, so you can say you don't like the song all you want, but to say that it had no point is just plain wrong.
I would have probably voted for
Happy myself, but I'm still thrilled for
Let it Go and think it's a fantastic song. I'm also just grateful that U2 did NOT win anything for that dreck that is
Ordinary Love.

He also claimed that Scientology cured him of said dyslexia, so according to himself he doesn't have it anymore. Also, if that was the case, which I doubt, then he should have known her name going out there and not relied on a prompter to screw up her name and yet say everything else perfectly fine.

Congrats to "Let It Go" for winning Best Song. It was a great day for Disney to win both Oscars.
I have seen "Despicable Me 2", but I honestly don't remember the song "Happy". I guess any songs not sung by minions, tends not to be memorable.

Actually, what I meant is that it was pointless in the context of
the story, in that I think they could have done so much more with that scene rather than just taking the easy route and making it a second-rate Defying Gravity. It could have been a great moment to quiet down from all the hustle of the coronation and let the visual storytelling do its job, conveying the necessary emotions solely through a powerful piece of score and Elsa's facial expressions. But what they did was nothing beyond shameless fanservice -- "Look at the pretty ice effects! Look at this pretty CGI attempt at reproducing Cinderella's transformation! See her hips, how they swish! Dreamworks face, SO MUCH SASS!"
This is the exact same problem I had with
the Legend War scene from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger; it does nothing to move the story forward and could have just as easily remained offscreen, but it's still shown just for the sake of making people cream their pants. Plus, without it, there would be an added surprise factor to the scenes that come afterwards, like Olaf showing Anna and Kristoff the way to Elsa's ice castle or Anna seeing Elsa in her new dress for the first time -- these scenes don't have as much of an impact when we've seen Elsa creating them in front of our very eyes.
They could still keep Demi's version of the song in the credits (a la If I Never Knew You), but in the context of the movie, the scene was something we did not need to see.

Wooow... So the best scene in the film, the best 3D scene Disney has had thus far, and Elsa's character-defining moment was something that did not need to be seen...
You wouldn't happen to be Jeffrey Katzenberg in disguise, would you?

Of course not. If you think it's one of the best things to ever come from Disney, it's perfectly fine with me. Unlike some folks, I
understand people are allowed to have different opinions.
It's just that I don't consider Let It Go to be as important or character-defining to the story as some of the most memorable Disney songs, like Part of Your World, which expands on Ariel's character and motivations in the same way For the First Time in Forever expands on Anna's. Remember Katzenberg almost had POWY cut just because a child dropped their popcorn during the song?

Well, Grace is happy that Let It Go won. But, she's actually right about box office $$ affecting the winner.

Further explaining on my opinion: after Let It Go, there are various scenes related to Elsa which need a certain surprise factor to get a proper reaction from the audience. Since we've seen Elsa building her ice castle and making herself a new dress from scratch before, when we get to see these things in Anna's point of view, there isn't as much of the intended impact as there would be if the musical number wasn't there. This doesn't happen with Part of Your World; aside from being an insight on Ariel's character, POWY is the only part of the movie in which Ariel's grotto is shown to provoke awe, like at the very beginning of the scene, with the establishing shot of the grotto from Sebastian's POV.

I respect your opinion -- surprise can be a very powerful tool in storytelling.
However, seeing as the ice castle was erected by magic, I think seeing its creation was a good tradeoff as opposed to seeing it from Anna's POV for the first time. We saw Elsa use her magic many times before the creation of the castle, but it's through that scene that we really get a sense of how her power has grown since she was child, and what she's capable of doing when she's confident, not afraid. I think it's very important that we saw that.

"Let it Go" is an important and necessary song. You could say that any song in any musical doesn't need to be a song but just dialogue and facial expressions. Why is "Let it Go" the only one you think could? The song moves the story forward, it tells what happens to Elsa and why she won't go back to Arandelle. It shows her character growing. To, well, let go her old controlled self and become her true self. She needs to say something rather than just remain silent all the way through, she needs to let us know what she is feeling and what is happening. And if they didn't have the scene at all, we'd be like "What did Elsa do? What happened?" when we see her ice castle and new look. Plus it's just damn good. So it is necessary and deserves all it has gotten.

Part of your Wold was an "I want" song. So naturally, it won't have a bigger effect on the story.
Let it Go is an "I am" song. It is the defining moment in movie, and I honestly can't see them going the score route because it would simply be boring. Majestic? Yes. But also boring. With the song, you get an insightful look at how Elsa really feels.
And as for the surprise factor: The scene where Elsa steps out to greet Anna was one of the most beautifully animated scenes disney has ever done.
It really reminded me of the Ariel scene. Every time I went to see the movie, at least 3 people went into complete awe when she came out. And those are people are verbal about it. I don't know about you, but the 5-6ish yr old boy that was sitting a few seats away from me squealed when Elsa appeared.

So would of preferred this, because this is what true siblings are like. They are not always on the same wavelength, and the disagree, and fight.
The bit where Elsa blocks her ears and goes " la, la, la, la " is a bit out of character, but they could of edited it.
Oh wells.

See, a lot of people keep complaining about that. Why did their confrontation go so calm? Why didn't they get mad and shout at each other?
Oh, I don't know.. Maybe it's because Anna realized that the last time she shouted at Elsa, she ran away and froze their kingdom....
