Well something could stop Phillip just before he kisses her! Lol.
Marce82, I forgot to say, the shaft of light is in the Masterpiece VHS. It is just coming from the opposite side.
Also, I didn't know you were an illustrator! Could I ever see your work? By pm or email? Or a web site?

As for the draft for the Gold collection: that rough looks pretty good actually. It is not the first time I have seen a cover get messed up by the painter/shader, based on a very good drawing
!!!
The cover is more attractive to buyers if the main character is smiling. So I understand why they changed the face expression of Wart/Arthur.

There are Internet memes like that which usually take on a pro-feminist stance.

Probably also why Cinderella is smiling on the Signature Edition cover while racing down the stairs.

You know, I was suspecting you were, or at least that you drew as a hobby, because you seemed too expert on the matter to be just, so to speak, a simple fan/observer.
Marce82 wrote:AND THANKS FOR POSTING THAT EXTENSION OF THE ORIGINAL COVER AND DRAFT FOR THE GOLD COLLECTION!!! I had never seen those before!!! Is there a way to see them in higher resolution??
You're welcome.

Oh, sorry. I should've posted the source of these images. The extended VHS cover is the same size
where I found it, but here are two other photos of it that are a bit bigger:
https://www.collectors.com/entertainmen ... 9681799533
https://posteritati.com/poster/41980/th ... -one-sheet
And here's the source of the draft for the Gold Collection:

By the way,
Marce82, I think
DisneyBluLife just wanted to help. I also understood at first that you were saying that all the characters in the background were random townspeople.

Disney Duster, sigh... why would they change the direction of the shaft of light??? It worked so well on the classic VHS. Oh well.
Sure, I can send you some samples... can you send files via PM on here?
DisneyBluLife, yeah, I understand that. But they changed a lot more than just the smile... a lot of small things that differentiate a good drawing from a "competent tracing". It's fine... it was what it was. The Gold collection cover isn't terrible, but that draft drawing was much better!
D82, thanks again for the kind words! And thanks so much for posting those higher res versions of the images. I have downloaded them. I appreciate it! And I didn't mean my comment at DisneyBluLife as an aggression (sorry DisneyBlu if it came across that way!)... but we are all Disney fans here. I think most of us would recognize major characters in the background
Darn... we are approaching the dark ages. Won't be as fun.... until the renaissance. That will be A WAR of opinions!

You can send links or image tags I guess.

Well, actually, I only have a strong opinion for one of the renaissance covers.... but I will wait and share that when the time comes.
Ok Disney Duster, I will message you privately.

Yeah, I don't think there will be much to fight about; my point was just the princess films always get more attention on this forum in general. Poor Hercules doesn't even have that many covers.

Disney Divinity, I think you are half right about that. But it's not because they are princess movies. Most of the older princess movies were part of the platinum/diamond/signature line. Films that get vaulted get more re-releases, and each one brings a new cover.
And I don't deny it, princess movies are beloved and very strongly associated with the Disney brand...
I doubt Pocahontas or Mulan will spark as strong a debate...

By the way, I'm also curious about your work, could you send the samples to me too? But only if it's not a problem for you. If you don't want to share it with more people, don't feel obligated. I would completely understand it.

This one is kind of disappointing for a Platinum/Diamond/Signature title. They basically reused the same VHS cover for the Masterpiece VHS and the Limited Issue. I was hoping The Signature Collection would have been announced by now but it hasn't.
Anyway, I like the DMC the best - minimalistic but beautiful background. The VHS and Platinum are nice too. And once again the worst is the Diamond with that ugly ellipse.

Oh, my favorite is the Diamond Edition DVD! Those colors, the composition, Baloo swinging Mowgli perfectly across the cover, plus it shows their love for one another!
My second favorite is the DMC.
My third favorite is the Classics VHS.

The DMC cover is my fav by far followed by the UK Platinum Collector's Edition. The Mondo cover is pretty great as well although not typical Disney fare.
There's also this preliminary Platinum Edition cover. It always amazes me how much of the Diamond Edition artwork basically came from unused versions of the Platinum Editions.

Oh, I love these two. Aside from them, the DMC cover is my next favorite just like with
Dalmatians. The VHS cover is nice, too. The Platinum is alright. I wish more of the covers featured Bagheera, since he was always my favorite character.

I liked that they used the theatrical poster. I’ve not seen this before so thanks for sharing.

What do you think of the Diamonds? (Besides the U.S. which everyone seems to hate because of the oval border).
Now you mention it, with the exception of the VHS where Bagheera’s more prominently featured and the tiny appearance on the platinum/diamond he’s pretty much non existent on all the home cover art which is a shame.
