Aladdin's theatrical intro song is gone forever. Because someone felt offended by the description of the people in a fictional land.

Physical media will still be available when the movies are fresh. The latest Avengers movie and Lion King will sell good. But for the older content, like In Search of the Castaways for instance from 1962, if they find out there will be a bigger profit to force the consumers to subscribe on their streaming service than print some new DVDs, the outcome speaks for itself. I would prefer if someone from Disney could answer these questions so you got it straight from the horse's mouth, but they are always silent in cases like this, so all one can do is speculate.

In any case, in direct response to these rumors, I had preemptively bought a Blu-Ray of "Dumbo" (from way back in 2011, no less!) just so they can't take anything away from me.

I'm just saying that I have some form of insurance. I'm also told that Blu-Ray lasts longer than DVD.

A lot of the previously posted articles saying that downloaded shows/films would always be available on your device have been clarified. Long live Blu/DVD!!!

Only a physical copy ensures you actually own the films.

It's due to the terms of the previous licensing deal Disney had struck with Netflix. Some titles released by Disney between the years 2016 and 2018 will go back to Netflix in 2026. It hasn't been revealed for how long Netflix will retain the streaming rights to those titles post-2026 but they will eventually return to Disney+.

I didn't realize they'd lose titles to Netflix still.

A digital copy wouldn't help because it would get censored as well like the Disney+ streaming version. You'd only be safe with the Blu-Ray or DVD.

Having just watched that Halloween classic "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" on ABC, I can't help but wonder...

Since "The Peanuts Movie" was made by Blue Sky Studios, does that mean that Disney now owns that movie, too? And therefore it will be shown on Disney Plus, too? It would actually make a small bit of sense, as the old Disney Channel used to show Peanuts movies occasionally (such as "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" and "Snoopy, Come Home") and even showed "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show" for a time. Most recently, several of the classic holiday-based Peanuts specials have been shown on ABC, depending on the holiday in question ("It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving", "A Charlie Brown Christmas").

I do believe that Disney now owns all of Blue Sky's properties via the Fox acquisition, as evidenced by the recent rumors of Disney+-exclusive spinoffs of Ice Age and Rio.

However, I presume that since Disney does not own the overall Peanuts property, they would probably have to get licenses from whoever does own the Peanuts in order to stream the movie.

Yes, Disney owns The Peanuts Movie in perpetuity.

I don't think they need permission from the Peanuts rights holders to put it on Disney+. They own the rights to that movie and can do with it what they please, just like how Paramount/CBS owns the first four Peanuts movies and Warner Bros owns the television specials and series. Sony doesn't need Disney's permission to put The Muppets Take Manhattan on Netflix, for example.

It is important to note that Disney doesn't have the sequel rights. The Schulz family only made a deal with Fox/Blue Sky for one movie. So it depends on his estate whether more Peanuts movies are made. A few years after The Peanuts Movie was released, DHX Media acquired a majority stake in the IP, so I'm sure that would also factor into a sequel being made.

I’ve never watched any prank shows because the concept strikes me as mean in nature, but this looks charming and whimsical. I wouldn’t mind to be “pranked” like this.

Its earlier absence was a head scratcher considering the money Disney has already invested into the property with Animal Kingdom’s Pandora. Maybe there were some rights issues to untangle or Disney just wanted to roll out the red carpet for this franchise they’re banking so much on? I wonder if there are currently any plans for any original Disney+ content based on the world of Avatar? If Avatar 2 is a success, I think they’ll starting milking this cow dry.

Do we know if Disney Plus will be available on Sony Blu-Ray players? I have not seen Sony Blu-Ray on the list of devices that will or will not support Disney Plus. However, I'm not so sure myself, especially if the drama over Spider-Man is any indication.

I have to say, I do kind of get it. When people were going bonkers on twitter when they released the trailer for all that's on Disney+, I was like 'surely everyone owns all of this already?' Especially with their policy of sending things to the vault for their Classics; when they were released, everybody purchased them. That's not to say it isn't super convenient to have it all in one place, I totally get that, and there are films and series coming on there that you can't get anywhere else ( Like the Little Mermaid, Hercules, and Aladdin TV shows ) but overall, its literally all the usual Disney stuff ?

The writer criticizes Disney+’s original content for being too reliant on nostalgia, but has that not been Netflix’s entire strategy for original content? If they’re not rebooting or reviving some title of yesteryear, they’re signing on some beloved (and seemingly semi-retired) actor to film a new series or special, and otherwise original IP like Stranger Things and The Crown are a smorgasbord of nostalgia as they time travel to days gone by. If it has worked for Netflix, why shouldn’t it work for Disney? After all, the Disney empire has been forged in nostalgia, going all the way back to Walt’s day. That aspect of service is never changing. Nostalgia is what they do.

Otherwise, I agree with Atlantica that their back catalogue isn’t the great boon that people make it out to be. The key to Netflix’s (and Disney’s) nostalgia strategy is offering new content in familiar packaging— “I recognize this, but it is new and worth spending my money to check it out.” But most families already own their favorite Disney movies, and long gone are the days when Disney movies were exclusive entertainment that returned to the movie theatre every 7 years. Snow White airs on Freeform every other weekend. “Okay, but I loved Goof Troop and I haven’t seen it in 20 years!” Yeah, and after streaming a couple episodes you’ll realize you can go 20 more years without seeing the show— why pay $7/month for it now? Substitute any Disney title there.

With only 600 titles, most people will blow through the old stuff that immediately interests them and unless Disney can deliver original content that’s worth renewing your monthly subscription, the service will bleed customers. Disney knows this, which is why they’ve offered such discounted contracts for 2-3 year subscriptions, it’s why “The Mandalorian” and other titles will be streaming new episodes weekly.

This show, at least, has the benefit of being at times thrillingly dark: A cast member resentful about being stuck playing Mrs. Potts in “Beauty and the Beast” again is asked what she’d tell her high school self, and replies “Sorry, but you will not outgrow your personality.” She later bursts into an allergic rash when trying on her teapot costume, and weeps while telling the thespian playing Belle she’s “a beautiful Disney princess.”
