Broiled— I like that! Would you say it means “heated, but also feeling a little burned”?

I haven’t listened to this new song myself.

I'll be honest, I didn't put that much thought into it, lol, but I suppose that works.

I've only listened to the new duet once or twice, but it feels way more generic and even expository than the reprise. And it's not nearly as genius or effective as reprising an earlier, more hopeful, number and corrupting it to make it tragic. If someone else sees something more to it, I won't fault them, but when we first hear FtFTiF, it sets a certain trajectory in juxtaposing Anna's idealism with Elsa's anxiety, but giving Anna the edge; the second time, we're doing the same thing, but Elsa's fears have only grown stronger, and so this time they overpower Anna. It was just a clever way to repurpose the classical Disney "I Want" song, and the duet feels way less ambitious by comparison.

I’m more annoyed that they cut the song “True Love” from the Broadway production. Like… why?? Wasn’t that song part of Anna’s character development?

Oh, gosh. I had forgotten about that. And now I'm furious all over again lol.

Bit of a funny story. When I saw the show on Broadway back in 2018 with my sister and brother-in-law and after Hans said his infamous line “If only there was someone out there who loved you”, I legitimately booed. And as Hans left the scene to let Anna freeze to death, I heard a little girl shout “You’re a bad man!”

At the stage door, I admitted to John Riddle, who was playing Hans at the time of the show, that I was the one who booed him. Surprisingly, he was in good spirits about it and told me it just meant he was doing a great job if it got that kind of reaction.

Aw, that's such a fun interaction. I'm sure he understood it in the spirit it was intended.

Anyways, I'm hoping to check out the show this weekend!

After the success of Wicked, I thought that perhaps when they'll do the live action remake of Frozen, they will split it to two parts as well, but after watching this, I don't think there's enough material for two feature length films.

I liked the songs I Can't Lose You and Monster and I didn't mind that I Can't Lose You replaced the original reprise. The rest of the songs did nothing for me, and the original songs were sung better in the film. I also thought the dramatic moments were handled better in the film.

I have to say though that I really hate that they film these proshots as if they were films and not actual stage shows, I would have preferred they filmed them statically as if the camera is someone in the audience, but I guess it gives you some sort of an idea of how a live action Frozen film would be.

Overall, I really liked it. I had some notes, but I'd watch this again, and I'm even more likely to try seeing this live at some point.

I think my biggest gripe was that the show didn't do a great job at compensating for the lack of action scenes. Those were the main crucibles by which Anna and Kristoff's relationship develops as they learn to depend on one another, and their romance feels almost as suspect as hers with Hans. I don't think Disney has really figured out how to adapt their more adventure-oriented movies onto the stage. "Beauty and the Beast" had its own challenges they had to overcome, sure, but the actual story lends itself to a theater adaptation very nicely. (I feel like a stage adaptation of Encanto would make an easier jump than this one did, but I'm not sure how eager they are in the wake of Frozen's flop.)

Based on this, yeah, I don't think Frozen has enough story material to make it into two films, but a hypothetical live action adaptation would have an easier time fleshing that out with some more of the travelogue stuff. Not that I'm campaigning for even ONE live-action Frozen.

Without many of the devices of filmmaking, some necessary plot information was either misplaced or dehydrated. Without being able to cut to Kristoff seeing the blizzard take over the castle, we didn't get that indicator that Kristoff was running back to rescue Anna, as one example.

I liked most of the new songs, though some definitely felt like filler. I've loved "Monster" since day 1, and I even really liked "Dangerous to Dream" in context, but I also think it's a valid frustration that Elsa gets two new solos while Anna gets nothing. (Imagine drop-kicking Anna's big revelatory number only to cast your protective arm over "Hygge".) The lyrics to "I Can't Lose You" were rather expository and basic. Like, it felt as though they could have just said those exact words as part of a spoken conversation, and it would have felt just as organic. We also missed out on the freezing of Anna's heart landing right at the musical climax. BRING BACK THE REPRISE!

I was trying to temper my expectations with Samantha Barks, but she did a knockout job. Most everyone else was fine, though I never felt like I connected with Hans' actor.

The staging of "Colder by the Minute" was great. Yeah, the snow projections were really nice and stuff, but the creative use of physical performers is just more impressive to me.

Anyways, I'd absolutely see more of these if Disney wanted to drop more pro-shots of their other stage shows.

I watched this the day it dropped. I really enjoyed it. I wish they'd do this for the other musicals (Aladdin, B&tB, TLM, Mary Poppins, TLK, etc.), too. My only real complaint was "True Love"'s absence. But this is the first time I'd ever heard "I Can't Lose You" and I adored it, particularly the opening when they have Elsa sing the lines from the End Credits version of "Let It Go". "Please don't find me, the past is all behind me. Leave me in the snow. ...Let me go." :( Unfortunately, the versions of ICLY I've listened to on YouTube don't include that part.

I haven't seen it yet because it has not been released in Spain yet. I watched it in London with Samantha as Elsa and I have to say that I prefer the musical before the animated movie. I was tired about the movie when I went to see the show because it was the time when the second movie was released and the popularity of the franchise was huge and I was really saturated about the character. But I don't know why I felt in love with the show and it helped me to connect again with the characters. Can't wait to watch it on Disney+
